As Most Here Know I'm A Sober Drunk (33 yrs in Aug)

But I never smoked! This is really odd for an alky, I used to hate to go to meetings, where the air was blue w/smoke. Now they have "No Smoke" meetings. I was too cheap, rather spend the $$ on booze. Can't imagine paying $100 for a carton. When I was stationed in Thule AFB in the 50's, cigs were .07 a pack.

I am just like Silver7 - a sober alky -- 20 years in April (a day at a time), I have never smoked a single puff from a cigarette, cigar or pipe. I did try weed back in the 70s but it made me eat like I was going to the electric chair so I quit for fear of becoming obese.

Today, I can honetly say I have never smoked and no booze for almost 20 years and no weed for probably 35 years, don't have an exact date I quit but it was in the early to mid 70s.

Many Yrs Ago Was In Treatment @ Mpls VA

The head of the Psychiatric Dept. Dr. R. Heilman, gave a talk. He was addicted to drugs & alcohol (sober then), and had his license once suspended for a yr. Smartest guy I EVER met. Anyway he said the hardest thing for him to give up of all his addictions had been nicotine!

That's for sure. I've been smoking for 13 years with some breaks here and there.

I found out I had ulcers about 18 months ago (at age 29) and had a LOT of addictions at the time (pain killers, coke, booze, cigs, and weed). Quit all of them at once, cold turkey. Went about a year w/o any of them and when I found out the bleeding of the ulcers had stopped and I could eat normal and have an occasional drink, I got drunk and had a cig. Next day bought a pack and smoked for about 6 months. I recently bought gum to quit again and have struggled. It's been about 3 weeks and I still can't stop all together. Congrats to anyone that has.

I quit cigarettes twice. The second time it worked. It has been a good twenty years and I don't miss them. I wish I had done it earlier. I have three close personal friends who were long time smokers (one still is). One is on oxygen 24/7, another has had frequent bouts with pneumonia and the third has emphysema and weighs less than 100 lbs (5'6'' female). If you think smoking won't hurt YOU, think again.
