Vin thanks, I just noticed at 12001 - Oh well. Did you do any good with the Preakness?

Wil,

Some, but nothing to brag about. Tell you what, Smarty Pants looked like Superman today but I would not get carried away at the prices that are going to be available in the days ahead.

Vin - Agree 100% - Smarty is now in the category of feel good story. 1 to 5 or worse is out of the question. Perhaps some sort of tri or super possible money maker. For racing fans Smarty Jones winning the TC will be great, but not very profitable.

that site's post race info always impressed me

"7 Smarty Jones: tracked 3-4w,angled in 3-1/2,took lead 1/4,drew off,steady drive"

Saddest words horseplayer can read about a mount he bet on: "Failed to threaten".

Of course "also ran" is a one size phrase that fits all trailers.

A little more on Smarty J. Ironocically if Smarty Jones wins the Belmont and joins Seattle Slew as an un-beaten triple crown winner he will pass the great Cigar as the richest racehorse in North America. Smarty would earn a $5 million bonus from Visa with a Triple Crown sweep. Add his purse money, plus the $5 million bonus he already earned from Oaklawn Park for winning the Rebel Stakes, Arkansas Derby and Kentucky Derby, and Smarty's total would top $13 million. Cigar earned $9,999,815. Cigar's grand sire was Seattle Slew*.

G. Money - yes TIRED is a deadly word for horseplayers. Lion Heart's game run ended with the dreaded "TIRED from his early efforts". So far we haven't seen Smarty Jones TIRE in eight starts, will he make it nine?

Almost forgot - tell me you listened to my fight info.

WIL,

SMARTY LOOK'S LIKE HE CAN RUN 2 1/2 MILES. HE IS ONE OF THE FEW HORSE'S THAT GET'S STRONGER THE FARTHER HE GOES. I'AM NOT READY TO CALL HIM SECRTARIET (SP)...BUT HE SURE CAN RUN..

G. Money for sure no one is ready to compare SJ to the great Secratariat who ran a 2:24 flat mile and a half in the 73 Belmont. However he will do until something better comes by. I would really like to see what kind of time he can post if pressed over a fast track at Belmont.

Speaking of Secretariat, I was looking at Smarty Jones' bloodline today. Guess who his great, great, grandfather is (on his father's side)? Yes, it is Secretariat.

Fathead - that is similar to Seabiscuit who was grand son of the great Man O War. A fact not well known before the book and movie.
