Hache man- I have to disagree with you. Spurrier is and was way out of his league. You are wrong about the Portis and Canidate comparison, because you need to keep in mind that Spurrier let Stephen Davis go. Spurrier wanted speed at the RB position and that is what Canidate gave him. If that shitbag hadn't let go Davis, we wouldn't have had to go get Portis. Keep in mind Spurrier also wanted Danny Wuerfell when nobody and I mean nobody wanted that clown

imo. This is a matter of perception. The Broncos seem to percieve that Bailey is an answer to a big problem (weak DBs). The Redskins correctly percieve that Bailey is nowhere near worth the 7 million he will demand if they make him their franchise player. Joe Gibbs wants to make sure he gets the most he can from this situation, and obviously a much cheaper Portis, along with a 2nd rounder would be a coup. Whether or not Bailey is all that at CB remains to be seen. Right now it seems Mike Shanahan thinks he is.

This is "all about" Portis having 2 yrs left on a 4 yr contract at (I think) about $800K.

He would hold out, no doubt about it. It's been very pubicly obvious for a while.

Shanahan didn't want to renegotiate & there's only one answer.

Portis got mighty cocky, and he did sign a 4 yr contract (which obviously means very little).

Call me carzy, but I've watched Bailey since UGA days, and while great, slightly overrated.

Portis may be overrated too?, but I doubt it, and even if he has made a living running behind that great Cane line of '00 &'01, and also behind Shanahan/Bronco OL, he seems to have "it", the all important & undescribable factor that some have.

I think Denver is being dumb to part ways with him for Bailey & 2nd rounder.

Denver lives and dies by Offense, has so going all the way back to Tombstone Jackson or Orange Crush teams, and is not a mere lockdown DB away from hardware, while on the otherhand Jake's mediocrity will be further exposed without the help of a Portis.

MGM Grand Casino Sues Ex-NFLer Clinton Portis

By MIKE HEUER

LAS VEGAS (CN) - Former NFL running back Clinton Portis owes a Las Vegas casino more than $10,000 for two unpaid markers, the MGM Grand Casino claims in court.
The MGM Grand Hotel sued Portis on Friday, in Clark County Court.
The casino claims Portis got two "negotiable credit instruments known as markers," worth more than $10,000, on Jan. 31, 2011.
The casino says the markers "were presented through normal banking channels for payment" on Portis' bank account, but they were "returned dishonored and unpaid."
MGM Grand says it sent a written demand by certified mail on March 26, 2011, but Portis refuses to pay.
The casino wants the money, plus $1,000 in damages and attorneys' fees.
The Denver Broncos drafted Portis in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft. He earned the NFL Rookie of the Year award after rushing for 1,508 yards and 15 touchdowns on 273 rushing attempts and catching 33 passes for 364 yards and two touchdowns.
The Broncos traded Portis to Washington in 2004. He finished his career with 9,923 rushing yards and 11,941 yards in total offense. He earned trips to the Pro Bowl in 2003 and 2008.
Portis retired after the 2010 season and is among several former NFL players who in August 2013 sued the league over concussions.

Funny thread.
Amazing how the nfl has changed.

10 years ago people were talking about how bad of a trade this was for Washington.
Denver trading an up and coming running back and a 2nd round pick for the best corner back in the nfl and most of the people in this thread thought Denver was getting hosed.

That trade would never happen today.

That would be the equivalent of Seattle trading Sherman and a 2nd round pick for Eddie Lacy. Lol

Clint Portis was a true beast for the Redskins. Guy was the best blocking RB i ever watched. Put his body on the line on every run play and every pass play
