eek, assmil,

Does your synicism never wane. I guess not. I think faceless at least has a point though as many organized religions don't attempt to understand the bible but merely think that by upholding the traditions of the church ( of man )- they will be saved. Herd salvation and redemption is the backbone of organized religions.

Jesse "the mind" Ventura stirred up a lot of church goers here in Minnesota when he said: " Organized religion is for the weak of mind." I generally agree with that. A lot of folks believe in the apple tree story and I find that really sad. Gotta think a little deeper my friends. Just my two cents on this subject.

Books of the Old Testament were made 1200-100 B.C and they were collected together about 100 A.D.

New Testamet was made 150 A.D. Oldest stories are from 50 A.D. and newest from 140 A.D

there is more manuscript evidence backing up both the old and new testament books of the bible than any other literature from the ancient world. if you can't believe the bible is reliable, you must throw out all the writings of socrates, plato, aristotle, herodotus, homer and virtually all the historical records from anywhere prior to the last few hundred years.

Jesus died for the "hopeless"...they matter to Him. i encourage you all to see this movie, then draw your own conclusions.

Blue Edwards,

I don't want to dispute about these things, my English skills and knowledge about these things are limited.

My point for this topic was that 60% of US citizens believe that the Bible is literally true and as I posted the Bible was written later than those things happened. This thing should ring the bell. I think that some of the happenings has been written to be more interesting than they were to attract people.

I personally feel that a lot of the Bible (Old Testament in particular) is metaphorical and written in a cultural context. That doesn't affect my faith in any way as the underlying message is what's important and not the particulars.

And this topic is WAY too heavy for this forum.

IMHO,
It's very hard to believe that the Bible is a book of historical fact.
Aside from so many other happenings through out the Bible's life span, just look at the fact the literature was nearly lost in the dark ages, saved only by Irish munks copying books by hand. I find it hard to believe that nothing at all was changed or mis-interpreted only in that time frame, let alone the entire time the Bible has existed.

kaya man, have you ever heard of the "dead sea scrolls" found in palastine in the 1940's?

these scrolls were found in a cave and scientists estimate that they are over 2,000 years old. the scrolls are in hebrew and are copies of many of the old testament books. when scholars took those scrolls and compared them to the same books that are in the bible we have today, the accuracy rate was over 98%. the errors found were in punctuation.

before this find, many believed what you said in your post. the fact is the bible has not changed throughout the ages. if it is not true, it was a lie when it was written.
