For ten terrifying minutes, Gia Favia says she was locked in a stranger's car.
"Your first instinct is, is this a joke? Let me out of the car," Favia said.
Favia requested an Uber Monday to travel about a mile from a bank to work in Chicago.
The Uber app charged her about $5, but Favia said her driver thought the ride should cost more.
When she refused to pay him more, Favia said he locked her in.
"I was getting to the point I was going to kick out the windows," Favia said.
Only when Favia called 911 did he finally let her go.
But, she said the harassment didn't stop there.
"He followed me up to the shop and got out and started just screaming," Favia said.
She immediately contacted the ride-sharing company and posted about her Uber nightmare to social media.
She said friends shared similar stories. One woman said she ended up throwing money at her driver just to get away.
"You never know," Favia said. "You just hear all these types of stories."
Uber finally responded to Favia and NBC5, saying the driver was deactivated and violated company policy. Uber called the situation frustrating and unusual, but added all drivers are trained and are thoroughly vetted.
The experience has been traumatizing for Favia and she said the risk for a ride isn't worth it.
"I don't even feel comfortable using the company anymore," Favia said.
A spokesperson from the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection is looking into the incident.
They said if anyone feels threatened they should call 911 and file a police report.

For the most part the riders here in the Bay Area are cool. Mostly young professionals, gays/lesbos, couples going out for the night, then the party crowd after 9pm.

A Miami doctor has been suspended after a viral YouTube video allegedly showed her getting into a physical altercation with an Uber driver, according to local television station WPLG.
The woman was suspected of being inebriated when the heated confrontation escalated into the fourth-year medical resident hitting the male driver, the station reported.
According to Juan Cinco, who posted cellphone video of the incident to YouTube, the Uber driver had pulled up to the location and the woman “out of nowhere” got in the backseat of the car.
She wouldn’t get out, and Cinco told the driver it was OK to cancel the ride. He wrote in the post accompanying the video that the driver did not want to take the woman anywhere and ordered her out.
After the driver threatened to call police, the woman reached into the front seat, grabbed his keys and began walking away from the vehicle, Cinco wrote. At that point, he began recording the incident.
Video showed the woman punching the man in the face and kicking his shin before he threw her to the ground. She got up, opened the door and sat in the car, prompting the driver to exit the vehicle, according to the footage.
A short time later, the woman started tossing items out of the car.
“I’m a 5-foot girl that weighs 100 pounds. I’m getting really, like, belligerent right now,” she can be heard saying.
The woman continued to throw things out of the vehicle before getting out and appearing to leave the scene. The nearly 5-minute long recording ends at that point.
Police eventually responded to the scene, according to the YouTube video description. However, the Uber driver opted to settle with her and did not press charges, the post stated.
WPLG identified the woman in the video as Anjali Ramkissoon, and reported that she is a resident at Jackson Health System.
Ramkissoon has been placed on administrative leave, according to the TV station.
“Jackson has launched an internal investigation,” spokeswoman Jennifer Piedra told WPLG in a statement. “The outcome of the investigation will determine if any disciplinary action will be taken, up to and including termination.”
Video of the incident had been viewed more than 2 million times as of early Friday afternoon since being posted on Jan. 19.
