Wil,
Wrong, wrong, wrong - a thousand times WRONG. The object of this thread is NOT to come up with ideas on how to take the risk out of posting up at Fly-by-night.com. It is to help the lesser informed (us) know which books the ones in the know (Shrink) believe to be the safest places to put their clams.

Who decides what is AAAA rated? Shrink, since he is the one that is gonna be doling out insurance payments if any of his recommendations go belly up.

Why would such a well thought of book need insurance to begin with? Their are hundreds of books that are "well thought of" by someone or other. Which books are well thought of by someone "in the know", and are being backed by this same someone with his hard earned money, is info that is gold to anyone with a lick of sense.

Why am I wrong because you say so?

Why are we limiting anything that might help everyone to the lesser informed of us, as you put it?

quote:
Who decides what is AAAA rated? Shrink, since he is the one that is gonna be doling out insurance payments if any of his recommendations go belly up.

Then why is he asking for feedback if he already knows who is or is'nt AAAA (your term btw.)?

quote:
Why would such a well thought of book need insurance to begin with? Their are hundreds of books that are "well thought of" by someone or other

In order for a book to be as you put it AAAA, it would have to be well thought of by almost everyone in the business, players, and bookmakers alike. Not just "hundreds" of someones.

Totally subjective, saying you will guarantee a book or anything else is a long way from actually doing it. The truth is there are no quarantees in this business. Anyone with a lick of sense knows that betting on sporting events with bookmakers on the internet has inherent risks. Caveat emptor is the best watchword anyone can really use when giving recommendations.

At ease Wil,
I misunderstood your questions. When you asked about the object of THIS thread, I thought you were referring to this one insurance plan - the one that I started. I thought you're follow up questions were asking me to further explain these recommendations. Therefore, I was only saying that you were wrong about what I was recommending in MY thread. I didn't realize you were talking about THIS thread. My mistake. I apologize.

Require each advertising book to establish an escrow bank account to hold the post up funds of Rx introduced members, the contents of this account to not legally count as assets of the book in the event of insolvency. Then, on a weekly (or some other) period, verify that the contents of this bank account meet or exceed the sum of those introduced players accounts.

The costs (e.g. legal costs) of doing this could either come from a small proportion of the advertising revenue, or even a small subscription fee from the escrow protected players.

While a lot of these ideas are certainly well meaning, no businessman in his right mind would insure or back anything these offshores do right now. I mean what if Ken and Marty insured them as suggested and could see bad trouble brewing? How could they get the books in line? Would they come out here and say "everyone take out your $$$, leading to a run on the book and then the book deciding not to pay anyone? It is crazy. Russ has a nice idea over there at MW, but as some point out for $500 it doesn't do much for a majority of the posters being held up by Panam right now. Even worse, a site that did insure Panam could pay out the $500, but that wouldn't absolve them. They would be out money and people would STILL be bitching that they got led astray by this site.

Make no mistake, the only thing that can be done is to make it perfectly clear that this is merely a gathering place with a lot of good insight and a chance to do SOME watchdog type functions, but it lacks the ability to keep everything clean and certainly lacks the ability to make sure all operators run a good shop. Books don't need to advertise just cause the site owner or manager gives them a good recommendation, they just need to run a good business and get a lot of their target audience to see their ads and offers. That is how it should work.

SO TRUE.......That and the FACT that 9 out of 10 players around here are BONUS WHORES and such.

I mean really SHRINK, these complainers would have found the panam's and others even if you didnt allow them to advertise.

Mostly they like a BOOK form here, so they feel they have some sort of LEVERAGE, when they want to EXTORT the BOOK...

So really, just do what ya been doing thats all.

Shrink,

I recommend doing everything you have been doing up to now except add a mandatory warning label in big letters in the case of books who have been around for less than 3 years.

Something like:

WARNING: This sportsbook has been in business for less than 3 years and therefore they do not have a long enough track record to absolutely guarantee safety. While we believe this book to be solid, the player must realize that all else being equal, books with longer track records are safer places to play.

It's kind of like the warning labels on cigarettes: "If you consume this product, you will DIE!" yet people still buy them like crazy.
