Should the league do something about the Oakland Raiders?

i doubt the Raiders front office and Al Davis know more about scouting than the ESPN guys. Judging by their record recently, they can't draft worth shit. Their first two round picks are definitely head scratchers. They could have had both guys, if they loved them so much, by trading down and getting more picks or taking them later!!

We'll see in a year or two how they work out.

exactly the point. If they loved Bay so much. O.k. fine. nobody else would agree with you but if thats what you think than trade down from #7 to #15 or 16. According to the value chart that would've netted you a 2nd round pick, and you could've still gotten Bay. Bay was at the highest the 3rd WR on everybody elses board.

Mel Kiper said the same thing about Tampa when they passed on Shuler.

He trashed Indy too.

Both Indy and Tampa have won Super Bowls since.

i was looking over some combine stuff, found a funny review of heyward

2/23/09: Darrius Heyward-Bey is a great player. Well, at least in Al Davis' eyes. DHB won't make it past Oakland in Round 2, thanks to a 4.30 40.

kIDMAN,
IS THAT NICOLE KIDMAN IN YOUR AVATAR?

I dont know enough about Oaklands biggest needs but these 2 picks are not that bad ....They need a speed reciever, you cant find 1 fast enough for Jamarcus..With a reciever who can go long and consistently get behind the defense his numbers will go way up...

This Mitchell guy is a headhunter in the true Raiders mold and they should be happy to have him.

Yea u think they could have gotten more value from the 2 picks but im not ready to say its horrible.

just for the record Mike Myock of the NFL network said basically the same thing as any ESPN guy about michael mitchell. He said he had him as a 7th round pick and that no personal evaluator that he talks to had the guy even near the 2nd round. He also mentioned that he wasn't even invited to play in any of the college all star games. I don't care if the bears were going to take him. All that means is that it would've been a horrible pick for them insted of Oakland.

Also we are halfway threw the 4th round and i'm still waiting for my call from Al Davis. Come on buddy pick up the phone and draft me allready.

The Raiders were in a Superbowl in 2002 ... and they won 3 out 5 ... AND they are the 4th highest winning team in NFL History.

Let them suck for awhile and give somebody else a shot ...

here is the difference. The Pats have a history of developing o-lineman and drafting well in general. like you said earlier logan mankins was a reach to some. Tell me how did that work out for them. Vollmer may have been a reach (for the record Todd Mcshay had him going in the upper 3rd round) but I'll give a team with the history of drafting well the benifit of the doubt. And its not like they took some guy 5 rounds to high. The guy was listed by scouts as the #9 tackle. New England took him as the #7 tackle.

One of the most memorable moments of the first day of the NFL draft was Mel Kiper Jr. criticizing Oakland's decision to draft Ohio University safety Mike Mitchell in the second round.
Kiper said Mitchell was a free agent prospect. Backing up Kiper's opinion, two teams that I talked to said they did not have Mitchell on their draft board. Mitchell wasn't invited to the February NFL Scouting combine.
Still, Kiper's words will be long remembered by Mitchell.
"Yes, I heard them," Mitchell, a well-spoken young man, said Sunday. "That's OK. Mel Kiper has his opinion and I respect it. But what does it mean? My nine-year-old nephew can watch film and make an opinion ... I think I value the opinion of scouts who actually get paid to make their opinions. All I know is the Oakland Raiders made me their second round pick and I'm determined to make Mr. (Al) Davis know he made a fine pick."
Mitchell said he keep Kiper's comments close to him for the rest of his career. In fact, Mitchell said he is in the process of getting a picture of Kiper. Mitchell plans to decorate his Oakland locker with it.
"It will carry me through my career," Mitchell said. "It will serve as motivation for me."
Mitchell said he awoke Saturday thinking he would be taken within the first four rounds. He started to get excited when his agent received a call from Chicago telling him he may be taken at No. 49. The Raiders took Mitchell at No. 47. The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears were hot on Mitchell.
"I guess Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith were wrong about me too," Mitchell said.
Mitchell got on the radar of NFL teams after a strong Pro Day workout this spring. Game film showed the speedy Mitchell is also a ferocious hitter.
"I think I opened some guys," Mitchell said. "The bottom line is I'm an Oakland Raider and I was taken in the second round. It is now all up to me. Whatever everyone has to say doesn't matter."

good read

Maybe the picks wouldnt be that bad if the Raiders didnt make them......if New England drafted these guys everyone would be like whooooaaa what does the Hoody know!

THe problem lies with the recent track record of the Raiders and what theyve done most recently with draft picks & free agents,etc.....

Yes that is part of the problem. The raiders have shown the ability over the last 5 years to mess up everything they touch. And New England has a history of being the best or second best franchise in the NFL so ya I'll give them the benifit of the doubt in the draft. But if New England was to draft a guy that 20 other NFL teams didn't even have on their draft board I would rip them as well. Here's another one for ya. The Jags drafted a CB high in the 3rd round that in most people's opinion was about the 50th best corner. They took him as the 8th CB. New England might reach by a round, but I've never seen them draft a guy in the 2nd that most people thought would go undrafted.

I guess I am in the minority because I think the Raiders are actually headed in the right direction.
