Shaquille O'Neal is heading to Cleveland because the Suns agreed to trade him to the Cavs, according to multiple reports. This will produce only limited benefits for the Cavs. That's because:

Shaq will be 38 before next season's playoffs.

Shaq is injury-prone.

He credits the training staff of the Suns for judiciously analyzing certain muscle weaknesses, and then designing (and supervising) an exercise program to address them, enabling last season to be his healthiest since 2004-05. Who would oversee these procedures in Cleveland?

Although he'd be able to outmuscle Dwight Howard, Shaq is otherwise a poor defender because of his extremely limited lateral movement.

Slower than ever off his feet, Shaq is likewise a poor rebounder and shot-blocker.

Because of his miserable career performances at the stripe, the ball would have to be kept away from Shaq in clutch situations.

He would be (and is) all but useless in defending high screen/rolls.

As he gets slower afoot and more and more floor-bound, he'll be in ever-increasing foul trouble.

With Shaq clogging the paint, there'd be precious little room for LeBron James' powerhouse drives. In fact, the presence of Shaq would mostly limit LBJ's offense to the most inefficient aspect of his game: his jump-shooting.

Also, if Shaq is such a desirable player, why did Miami trade him 16 months ago, and why did Phoenix agree to deal him now?

great move by the cavs. cavs play half court offense, needed a legit post threat, had absolutely nothing in Z and Wallace.

this makes them the favorites imo.

Think this makes the Cavs brass look pretty dumb. They could've had a similar deal at the trade deadline and had Shaq for a potential run this past year. They felt their team was good enough otherwise..........

agreed, they thought they had in place the team to beat the Celtics and didnt think about the Magic

Its still a good move, makes them better equipped to match up with the Magic now

It is a great move but I do not think it makes them that much better. Shaq will clog the lane and make it harder for LBJ to drive.

I do not think they are the favorite in the East. Boston is better. I think Orlando is better as well.

Last years Lakers team would beat the piss out of the cavs.

It doesn't help Cleveland in the fact that they were destroyed by the pick and roll. Orlando killed them using it. One thing Shaq has never been good at either, that's defending the pick and roll.

Shaq wont be in the high post, and it very unlikely you get such a bad matchup for the Cavs again because...

no way I foresee the Magic being able to keep with Hedo's demand

His market alue will b e too high to resign him

can I ask a question. How does this make Lebron want to sign a 7 year extention with Clevland when Shaq has maybe 2 years left. Clevland better make another move besides just this one.

The New Jersey Nets have agreed in principle to send Vince Carter(notes) and Ryan Anderson to the Orlando Magic for Rafer Alston(notes), Tony Battie(notes) and Courtney Lee(notes), two league executives told Yahoo! Sports.
The Nets will draft Louisville shooting guard Terrence Willams at No. 11, if he’s still available.

what do you think? by doing that they def wont be able to resign Hedo

I am not sure what they will do... But if they sign Hedo they will have a all star type talent at each position:

Nelson
Carter
Hedo
Lewis
Superman

Crazy starting 5 if you ask me.

they cant afford Hedo now, even flirting with a luxury tax

if it came down to choosing hedo or vince

they made a bad decision imo

They can sign him if they want. its buck for buck luxury tax.

All up to if the owner wants to spend the dough.'

Since salaries have to be close to even for trade does VC contract offset by the players that left? I am not sure what 3 magic players add up to?

the suns had a good system going with resting shaq every few games, its not like big ben and sasha were huge factors in the cavs success the were both minimal role players,
so shaq will help in the playoffs
