These two teams faced each other about two weeks in Memphis, with San Antonio getting a comfortable win in a high scoring contest. However, that game was very weird to say the least. First of all, Memphis was completely unfocused for most of the first half. With Bonner starting for San Antonio at the PF position, the Grizzlies quickly start feeding Randolph on the post in every single possession on offense, something that caused them to lose all their chemistry and sync on offense, which made them down big quickly, thanks to just two points scored in the first six minutes of the game. Then, as they were down on the score, the Grizzlies were forced to increase their normal game pace, and this was the main reason why that game ended up being a very surprising high scoring contest.
Things should be very different tonight. San Antonio will be missing both Parker and Leonard, two very important pieces of their structure. Besides that, the Spurs' bench is now miles below the level it showed over the past few seasons, also due to a lot of injuries. This was clear in last Monday's game at Portland, where the Blazers easily outplayed San Antonio the whole game. Memphis is coming from an excellent home win over Golden State last night, but it's impossible to think that they'll relax or have a letdown tonight. San Antonio has been one of their biggest rivals and they are the reigning NBA champion, which means the Grizzlies will be motivated to try to get a win tonight.
I believe Memphis should be able to stop San Antonio's perimeter shooting well, as it hasn't been that great this season, while the Grizzlies' elite rim defense should also cause problems near the basket to San Antonio's offense. On the other hand, the Grizzlies' offense has been showing great ball movement thanks to Conley and Gasol, therefore I expect Memphis to have overall success over the Spurs' defense in here. I believe this will be a relatively slow paced game, where both teams won't be as good on offense as they were on the first game of this series, but where Memphis has an excellent opportunity to finally beat San Antonio on the road. Therefore, I'll be taking both the Under and the Grizzlies in here.mes
