Wednesday NBA Opinions/Possible Best Bets
New York (+2 ½) over HOUSTON
Rotation #719 - 6:05 pm Pacific
The Knicks are a team that tends to letdown against lesser teams while saving their best efforts for better competition. New York is coming off consecutive home losses to Sacramento (as a 9 point favorite) and Phoenix (as a 6 ½ point favorite) and the Knicks are now just 6-7 straight up and 3-9-1 ATS when favored by 3 points or more this season. New York is 16-11 straight up and 21-5-1 ATS in games when not favored by 3 points or more. The Knicks are also 21-4 ATS as an underdog of more than 2 points following consecutive losses and a spread loss, so they’re due to bounce-back with a good effort tonight. I’ll lean with New York at +2 or more and I’d take the Knicks in a 2-Star Best Bet at +3 or more.
Oklahoma City (+3 ½) over DENVER
Rotation #719 - 6:05 pm Pacific
Oklahoma City tends to play their best after a loss, as the Thunder are now 65-30-1 ATS after a loss since Russell Westbrook joined the starting lineup in late November of 2008 – including 9-4 ATS this season after a setback. That’s enough for me to lean with the Thunder in this game at +3 or more.
Wednesday College Opinions/Possible Best Bets
Iowa (+20) over OHIO STATE
Rotation #727 – 3:30 pm Pacific
Iowa lost by just 5 points at home to Ohio State a couple of weeks ago and the Hawkeyes apply to a very good 137-45-4 ATS big road underdog situation tonight. Ohio State has been struggling lately, with 4 straight wins of 5 points or less – all against unranked teams. However, my ratings still favor the Buckeyes by 21 ½ points and I’m not willing to give up the line value even with Iowa in a very strong situation. However, I’ll still lean with the Hawkeyes in this game and I’d take Iowa in a 2-Star Best Bet at +21 points or more.
SOUTHERN MISS (-6) over Memphis
Rotation #742 – 4 pm Pacific
Memphis played their best game of the season on Saturday against Marshall, but the Tigers had failed to cover their previous 7 lined games and they’re just 12-29-1 ATS in two seasons since coach John Calipari skipped town to coach at Kentucky. Southern Miss, meanwhile, is 29-13 ATS as a conference favorite under coach Larry Eustachy and Memphis is still overrated. My ratings favor Southern Miss by 7 ½ points before adjusting for Memphis being without Wesley Witherspoon (suspended), who is the Tigers’ #2 scorer, top rebounder, shoots 50.5% from the field and averages 1.4 steals per game.
Akron (+2 ½) over MIAMI-OHIO
Rotation #745 – 4 pm Pacific
Akron is 35-13-2 ATS after a loss under coach Keith Dambrot (3-1 ATS this season) and the Zips are 41-16-1 ATS under Dambrot against losing teams as long as they’re not favored by 17 points or more. My ratings favor Miami-Ohio by 2 ½ points, so the line is fair, and I’ll lean with Akron at +2 points or more based on the team trends.
Western Michigan (-9 ½) over TOLEDO
Rotation #751 – 4 pm Pacific
Toledo is one of the worst 20 teams in all of Division 1 basketball and the Rockets apply to a negative 71-157-2 ATS weak home court situation. Western Michigan, meanwhile, applies to a 165-70-5 ATS big road favorite situation and the Broncos have a history of beating up on really bad teams (15-6 ATS against conference opponents with a win percentage of .250 or less). My problem with this game is that my ratings only favor Western Michigan by 8 points. The situation is so strong that I’ll still lean with the Broncos in this game.
My 3-Star Best Bets are 25-14 for the season and I also have a Wednesday 3-Star College Best Bet
