Cleveland -120 over Baltimore--Sowers at home over Olson

Toronto -105 at Detroit--Burnett over Miner at Comerica--AJ has been tough as nails lately

Texas +145 on the road at Fenway against Boston--Feldman over Hansack--I've never even heard of him--thanks, I'll take the Rangers bats

Dodgers (even odds) over Hamels and the Phillies--Kershaw was lights out his last start, so I'm riding him until it ends

SD +110 with Baek on the upset special over Jeff Suppan and the Brewers

Arizona +125 at Colorado--Randy Johnson on the road at Coors over Jimenez

SCOTT FERRALL

BASEBALL LOCKS FOR TUESDAY

Pirates (even odds) with Karstens over Volquez and the Reds--Karstens almost threw a perfect game his last outing and has looked brilliant for the Bucs since coming over from the Yankees

Atlanta +135 over the Cubs at Turner Field--Morton with the fat upset over Harden in Hot-Town

St.Louis (even odds) at Florida over Volstad and the Marlins--I still like Kyle Lohse when he goes to the mound for Tony LaRussa

NY -200 at Washington--Johan Santana will chew and spit out the hapless Nationals and Odalis Perez

SF (even odds) over Houston and Roy Oswalt at Minute Maid. I'm bettin on Tim Lincecum--he's been unreal this year--and better than Oswalt, that's for sure

Seattle +160 and Jared Washburn over Jon Garland and the Angels in Anaheim--because no one is going with the M's--except me !

Oakland +150 over TB--Kazmir got roughed up in his last start and I think the A's will get lucky with Gonzalez--and I love the payout if it hits

ChiSox -160 over KC and Brian Bannister, who simply blows--Vazquez will make it look easy

Blackburn -105 and Twins over Mussina and the Yanks at the Homerdome--I think the Yanks road trip will be the end of them--especially after getting swept at Anaheim by the Halos

1* on Philadelphia Phillies -119

Rarely will you see Cole Hamels at this kind of a price, but we’re not about to let this value slip away without a lofty wager. Hamels is one of the best in the game, with 9 wins and a 3.35 ERA to go along with 147 strikeouts already this year. His 1.068 WHIP says it all, this guy rarely puts batters on base. Clayton Kershaw has a 1.533 WHIP on the year, so the Phillies will have plenty of runners on base to work with. They don’t leave runners on base very often either with one of the best lineups in baseball. The Phillies are 18-9 (+9.5 Units) against the money line on the road when the money line is +125 to -125 this season. Philly is 21-9 (+13.1 Units) against the money line vs. NL teams allowing 4.3 or less runs/game on the season this season. The Dodgers are 9-28 (-21.6 Units) against the money line when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 54% to 62%) in the second half of the season over the last 3 seasons. Take the Phillies on the money line.

Info Plays

3* on Minnesota Twins +122

Play Against - All favorites with a money line of -110 or higher (NY YANKEES) - excellent fielding team - averaging <=0.5 errors/game on the season against opponent with a hot starting pitcher- WHIP <= 1.100 over his last 10 games. This is a 76-43 ML System hitting 63.9% and gaining 48.8 Units since 1997. Nick Blackburn 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA over his last 3 starts and 6-2 with a 2.54 ERA at home this season. He’s no slouch. Bet the Twins at home.

Black Magic Sports

1 Unit on Florida Marlins -114

Clint Volstad has become a force in the Marlins’ starting rotation this season. Volstad is 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA, pitching 6 shutout innings at Philadelphia in his last start on August 7th. Holding the Phillies scoreless is no easy task for even the biggest names in the game. Kyle Lohse looks to have lost his magic, going 1-2 with a bold 7.27 ERA through his last three starts. St. Louis is 3-12 in road games vs. an NL team with a batting average of .255 or worse in the second half of the season over the last 3 seasons. The Marlins are now 11-3 in their last 14 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Following a tough loss to the Cards last night, I like the Marlins to bounce back Tuesday. Cash in with Florida as the favorite.

Milwaukee -120 at SAN DIEGO

Everything going Milwaukee's way these days, as the Brewers have won their last 6 games as they head west to take on San Diego.

Milwaukee will send Jeff Suppan to the mound, and Suppan has won his last pair of starts - both on the road - allowing 3 runs in 14 innings of work.

The Padres will counter with Baek who has yet to win a home game this year at 0-6, and a bloated 6.62 ERA.

San Diego has won their last pair of games, and 4 of their last 7 overall, but the Pads are just 25-34 at home this year.

Milwaukee is charging hard in the NL Central, and we don't see them being stopped in this spot.

Expect Suppan to win his third straight start, and the Brewers to win their 7th in a row.

Play on Milwaukee.

Event Date: 08/12/2008
Event Time: 07:10 PM EST

Play: Cubs -150 (20*)

Comments: Cubs (Harden) @ Atlanta (Morton)
The Cubs starter Rich Harden comes off of his toughest outing of the season. However you can count on this super starting pitcher to bounce back with a great effort. Harden has allowed just 7 earned runs in his last 7 road starts. The Atlanta starter Morton is just 1-4 with his home team starts this season with a horrible 8.39 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and allowed 5 home runs in just 24.2 innings. The Braves are just 2-7 in their last 9 at home. The Cubs are 18-8 in their last 26 opening games of a series. Chicago is also 57-26 in their last 83 as a favorite. Play on the Chicago Cubs as my 20* Lay the Chalk Game of the Month.

Behind a four-hit, eight-inning performance from Glen Perkins, Minnesota beat New York 4-0 in Monday's series opener to shut out the Yankees at home for the first time since June 24, 1996. The victory, coupled with Chicago's 5-1 loss to Boston, gives the Twins a one-half game lead over the White Sox in the division. Twice this month, Minnesota has held the same slight advantage over Chicago only to lose its ensuing contest and give up the outright lead.

The Yankees' Mike Mussina (15-7, 3.27 ERA) looks for a third straight victory after allowing eight hits in seven innings of a 3-0 win at Texas on Thursday. The 39-year-old is 5-1 with a 2.00 ERA in his last seven starts and looks for his seventh consecutive winning decision on the road. The right-hander is 22-6 with a 3.06 ERA in 32 career starts versus the Twins and 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two outings this seasons, including eight scoreless innings during a 5-1 win over Minnesota on July 23.
Rookie Nick Blackburn (9-6, 3.60) takes the ball looking for a third straight victory for the Twins. He allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings of a 7-3 win at Seattle on Wednesday. The right-hander will face the Yankees for the third time this season after going 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in his previous two starts.
The Yankees are 6-1 in their last 7 games as a favorite of -110 to -150 and 5-0 in Mussina's last 5 starts during game 2 of a series.

interesting this comes from someone with just 3 posts. but a minor issue.

wins and losses and percentage means NOTHING in MLB. it's about the amount of money you win. YWN guys post almost exclusively big faves of 140 and above....so they better hit > 60% just to pull even.

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Game: Chicago at Atlanta (7:10 PM Eastern)
Pick: Chicago -161 (moneyline)

This is a Braves team that looked like they would be challenging in the NL East again, but that was way back when they owned a 28-23 mark. That has dramatically changed over the last couple of months that has seen the Braves take a nosedive out of the NL East, as well as wild card contention as they have struggled to a 27-40 mark since. The Cubs were out of the gate early and often in the win column, but hit a mid-season snag that saw them post a 15-19 mark over 34 games and the questions began to arise. Those questions have since been answered with an 11-3 run. This means the Cubs have now sandwiched a 56-28 season around that bad 15-19 mark. The rotation got better when they acquired Rich Harden from the A's. Harden is healthy and having a huge year where he has posted a 2.27 ERA and even lower against the Cubs at 2.10. Charlie Morton makes his 10th big-league start and with an ERA of close to six he has been mostly ineffective. The Cubs are hot and have their best pitcher on the hill, and should school the Atlanta rookie here.
