Today's Winner...
20 Dime play on the New Jersey Nets plus the points over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets are currecntly listed as a 1 1/2 point home dog in tondght's match up.
Oddsmakers are some of the craftiest son's of bitches on the face of the planet. They read public perception better than anyone, and they've got the public peaged in this match up. All of a sudden, your average bettor has caught wind of a "red-hot" 76ers team (winners of 8 in a row ATS and 5 of 7 SU overall), and their tounges are wagging at the line tonight in New Jersey.
You're being asked to lay the same amount for the 76ers, as you did when they routed New Jersey 102-86 back on Nov. 27th (when the SU run started). Doesn't that strike you as a bit fishy, especially since the Nets have gone on to lose 7 of the next 8 games since that loss?! You'd think the 76ers would be bigger favorites here, but they're not, and that's why the public is jumping all over them - perceived value.
Problem is that perceived value is total and utter bullshit. The 76ers aren't bigger favorites here because oddsmakers are expecting a strong game from the Nets. They're also factoring in the 76ers atrocicous road play this season (1-10 SU, 6-4-1 ATS). No better time to rape the public than against one of the worst teams in the NBA, when everyone is expecting they'll win with ease.
So why do I expect the Nets will play better here? Simple, they adjusted their defensive schemes against Dallas, and while it didn't work the first night they tried it, it did against the Lakers in the very next contest. New Jersey almost beat LA outright, and held the NBA's third best offense under the century mark, and to just 41.5% shooting. That is no small task, let me tell you. So enter a very road-weary, and offensively shaky 76ers team, and I expect the Nets new defensive schemes to pay major divddends. They got a confidence boost by being able to hang with Kobe and company, and I expect they'll use that boost to reward their backers tonight. Take the Nets plus the points over the 76ers Tuesday.
