The New York Yankees will try to rebound from an embarassing loss as they will take on the Tampa Bay Rays tonight in Game 2 of a three-game series. The Rays got their AL Championship rings last night, then went out & blasted the Yankees 15-5 in their home opener. A.J. Burnett (1-0, 3.38) will make his 2nd start as a Yankee & will be opposed by Rays righthander Matt Garza (1-0, 1.29). Burnett started 3 games last season vs. Tampa as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays & went 1-2 with a 3.15 ERA. Carl Crawford looks to continue his success tonight against Burnett, as he is 13-for-36 (.361) lifetime with 1 home run, 3 runs batted in & 10 stolen bases. Garza went 1-1 last season in 3 starts against the Yankees with a 3.71 ERA. Robinson Cano (.455 average in 11 at-bats) and Derek Jeter (.364 average in 11 at-bats) have had the most success against Garza so far in his 4-year career. Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has appeared in 38 career games at Tropicana field, & has 30 saves with a miniscule 0.86 ERA. I look for New York to win a close game & get back to the .500 mark. All Yankees!
The Boston Celtics will conclude the NBA regular season today with a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, who could be their 1st-round playoff opponent. Tonight's game will not feature Kevin Garnett, who has appeared in just 10 games since February 1st with his injured right knee. Andre Iguodala has stepped up his game for the 76ers, as he is averaging 20.1 points in 29 games since the All-Star Break. Look for Philadelphia to win this one at home, as they have more to play for & could possibly move up seeding-wise to avoid playing the defending champs in the 1st round. All 76ers!
