Incredible Stats of the Day
•Home Teams Not Perfect, But Still Have Strong Showing
A day after home teams went a perfect 15-0 for the first time in baseball history and while Wednesday wasn't perfect, they kept the trend hot going 11-4. That makes home teams 26-4 in the past two days, good for a success rate of 86.67 percent. The Phillies, Reds, Astros and Tigers were the only four road teams to notch wins yesterday. With nine more games on tap Thursday, including four matinee affairs, make sure to check out our Website to see if home teams can stay hot.
•Lester Has Been A Boon For Under Plays
Jon Lester has led the Chicago Cubs to a 3-12-1 over/under record in his past 16 starts. Through those 16 starts, Lester has only given up an average of 5.6 runs per game and 2.1 runs. On the season as a whole, the Cubs are 6-14 O/U in Lester's starts. That is the third most number of unders this season out of all of the starting pitchers. Lester and the Cubs are currently -220 favorites for when they host the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday.
•Day Games Have Been Where Sonny Gray Shines
Sonny Gray can roll out of bed and pitch a marvel it seems, with the right-hander playing phenomenally during day games this season. In eight day starts, Gray has a 5-1 record with a 0.97 ERA while opponents are only hitting .178. Through those eight games, two of which were complete games, Gray has surrendered six earned runs over 55.2 innings. Gray takes to the mound for the A's when they visit Toronto Thursday, but it will be as a +137 underdog against the streaking Jays.
•Syndergaard Has Been Unhittable During The Day
Noah Syndergaard has been downright dominant when it comes to pitching in day games this season. Through three early starts this season, Syndegaard is 2-0 with a 0.98 ERA. The rookie hurler has only surrendered 14 hits and two earned runs through 18.1 innings pitched during those day starts. Syndergaard, who is coming off one of his worst outings of the season, will take to the mound for the Mets Thursday when they host the Colorado Rockies. The Mets are currently big -244 favorites.
