Some "Quick Trivia" folks ... today's Ballerina Stakes was named for the inaugural winner of the Maskette in 1954. Ballerina was owned by Howell E. Jackson. In this year's edition, which is the 30th running of this Grade I event, #2 SUGAR SWIRL has won 5 of 8 in her career to date sprinting at today's "specialized distance" of 7.0 furlongs on the dirt,, and in fact has won four of her last five outings overall. Jockey Javier Castellano and Trainer Robert Frankel send her to the post for the "Sunday Feature" today ... they've "whacked the tote board" with 55% of their entries saddled as a team to date. #5 MISTICAL PLAN is the overall speed leader in this stakes field, and has nice early speed abilities to compliment for this sprint.
