NEW YORK METS (-140, list both pitchers) over Washington Nationals, 10 dimes
The Nats bring their poorly hitting offense (.222 team average) into the Big Apple today to face the Mets, who have beat them 5 out of the last 7 times they've squared off. Chris Young takes the mound for the home team, and I hold the belief that this is the year that Young shakes off his injuries and returns to form. He has great stuff when he can stay healthy, he started off the year solid with a win over Cole Hamels at Philly, and he's historically pitched well against Washington (3-1, 2.42 ERA, WHIP near 1.00.) Taking the mound for the visitors is Jason Marquis, who's had difficulties facing NY. His career record against the Mets is 6-7 with a 4.68 ERA and a WHIP around 1.500. This is a great spot to roll with the home team.
New York Yankees (-125, list both pitchers) over BOSTON RED SOX, 10 dimes
Amazing to me that this moneyline isn't closer to -175 in favor of the Yanks. NY has been ripping the cover off the ball at the plate this season, and today they get to face Josh Beckett, who holds a career ERA of 5.69 against the pinstripes. When delving into Beckett's more recent starts against the Yanks, things just uglier. His ERA is over 10 in his last five starts against this rival. New York's ace CC Sabathia will be taking the hill, and he has been steadily improving his game against the Red Sox in the last few seasons. Overall, he holds a respectable 3.45 ERA against the Sox, and is only allowing a meager .232 batting average against when he pitches in this series. Over the course of his last 7 starts against Boston, Sabathia has posted a 4-0 record with a 2.72 ERA. Expect the Yankees to enjoy some serious run production today.
LA Angels (-170, list both pitchers) over Toronto Blue Jays, 10 dimes
The Halos have won 3 out of their last 4 games, and with Jered Weaver taking the mound, Toronto can't be looking forward to this matchup. So far this season, the rock-steady Weaver has picked up right where he left off last year, posting 2 wins with a miniscule 0.69 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. 12 K's ain't bad either. Jo-Jo Reyes takes the mound for the Jays, and in his one start this season he was on the receiving end of a 5 run, 9 hit assault in 3 and 1-3 innings. Great spot here to eat this chalk for the home team.
