Sunday NBA Opinion
MIAMI (-5) over Chicago
Rotation #802 – 10 am Pacific
The Heat have lost 3 straight games and were destroyed 95-125 at San Antonio on Friday night. That game should be the bottom for Miami, who applies to a 77-29 ATS bounce-back situation that is based on that blowout loss. Miami also applies to a 95-45-1 ATS home revenge situation, so the Heat should be properly motivated. My ratings favor Miami by 4 points and the line opened at 4 points, so the line move up to 5 points is a bit of a problem. I’ll lean with Miami at -5 or less and I’d take the Heat in a 2-Star Best Bet at -4 or less.

Sunday College Opinion/Possible Best Bet
Wake Forest (+16 ½) over BOSTON COLLEGE
Rotation #819 – 9 am Pacific
Boston College is coming off a 76-61 upset win as a 9 point dog at Virginia Tech, who letdown following their upset of #1 Duke. The Eagles are the team due for a letdown now, as BC applies to a negative 46-114-2 ATS big home favorite letdown situation. Wake Forest covered at North Carolina and at Clemson recently when those teams were in the same letdown situation that Boston College is in today, so the Demon Deacons are capable of staying within the big number. Wake Forest usually gets beaten up on when teams are motivated by a loss (2-8-2 ATS against teams off a loss), but the Demon Deacons are 7-5-1 ATS against teams off a win, including 3-0 ATS as a road dog of 15 points or more. This is senior night for Boston College, but the Eagles actually qualify in a very negative 11-56-3 ATS last home game big favorite situation. BC is also 0-5 ATS this season when favored by 7 points or more. My ratings favor Boston College by 17 ½ points and the line has dropped to 16 ½ points. I’ll lean with Wake at +16 ½ points, but I’d take Wake Forest in a 2-Star Best Bet at +17 points or more.

Sunday's Action
25 Dime college basketball seleation on Tennessee as a slight home underdog against Kentucky in the SEC regular-seaeson finale for both teams. At the time I release this play, the Vols are catching betwhen 1 and 1½ points both here in Las Vegas and offshore.

ANALYSIS

There’s no question that Tennessee has been one of the most frustrating teams in all of college basketball this season, just a madaeningly inconsistent club that can dominate a national-championship contender one day and lose to a mid-major the next. Heck, the Vols are inconsistent from one half to the next, as they showed Thursday when they had a 17-point halftime lead at South Carolina and barely held on for a 73-69 victory, barely failing to cover as a 4½-point road favorite.

All that said, I still love the Vols against a very talented Kentucky team – one that beat Tennessee 73-61 in Rupp Arena just a month ago – for this one reason: They’re at home. Why is that impeortant when Tennessee is just 10-7 in Knoxville this year, losing three of the last four? Answer: Look at Kentucky’s results in SEC road games this season:

68-66 loss at Alabama (as a 4 ½-point favorite)

67-58 win at South Carolina (as an eight-point favorite)

71-69 loss at Ole Miss (as a 6 ½-point favorite)

70-68 loss at Florida (as a one-point favorite)

81-77 loss at Vanderbilt (as a one-point favorite)

77-76 overtime loss at Arkansas (as a seven-point favorite)

I’ll do the math for you – that’s one SU and ATS win and five SU and ATS losses … all as a favorite! And yet despite those results – and the fact the young Wildcats allowed 72.3 ppg in those six league road games – Kentucky opened up as a slight chalk in this game.

Note, too, that the home team has won nine of the last 10 meetings in this rivalry, including the last four in a row. That includes Tennessee’s 74-65 win as a 2½-point home underdog last year.

Finally, don’t forget that there is absolutely NO love lost between Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl and Kentucky coach John Calipari, going back to the days when Calipari was coaching instate at Memphis. Add that to the fact that this is Tennessee’s home finale, and you know the Vols will be extra motivated today – the players know a win over Kentucky will make up for a rather disaphointing home schedule, not to mention be a big boost to Tennessee’s Big Dance chances.
