3 Units San Diego -8.5

Arizona should not have won last week and were severely outplayed by Oakland. The Cardinals passing offense is horrible right now, and their receiving group is banged up. Derek Anderson simply is not a good quarterback, and the Cardinals normally high powered offense just isn’t the same without Kurt Warner. Meanwhile, San Diego will be fired up for this game after losing at Seattle last week. However, the Chargers significantly outplayed the Seahawks, but the difference is that Seattle got two kick returns for touchdowns. San Diego is also traditionally a great home team as well. People don’t realize just how bad Arizona will be this season. Look for the Chargers to get a blowout win over a horrible offense with Arizona.

4* DETROIT +14.5 over GREEN BAY

Now that Jahvid Best looks ready to go it is time to get in play here, with the Packers not having anywhere near the level of domination that the markets are projecting for this setting. It is not easy to bring your “A” game off of a bruising Monday night road loss, and covering this level of spread requires every bit of that.

Prior to backing the Bears on Monday we delved into the primary Green Bay weakness – without Ryan Grant the ground game brings major issues, and it was clear to see. RB’s only got carries on 13 of the 60 offensive snaps at Chicago, and while the box scores show that Aaron Rodgers was not sacked it was a most misleading column; Rodgers was harassed throughout, and his two scrambles for 20 yards also created a misleading bottom line in the rushing category – outside of those two plays Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn could combine for only 43 yards. Jackson has only generated 2.9 yards per rush on his 36 attempts, and does not provide the kind of threat that slows down a pass rush. This is a significant factor again this week because the Lions do have a genuine strength on defense – with Ndamukong Suh, Kyle Vanden Bosch and former Packer Corey Williams being brought on board this defensive front can get after people, and they already have an impressive count of 11 sacks. Rodgers will not find the time in the pocket to have his way today, with the lack of a play action threat making it difficult to slow that rush down.

The Lions can also make things happen offensively in this matchup. The Green Bay 3-4 has excelled in getting pressure on the QB, but the Packers are vulnerable to a ball control attack, allowing an alarming 5.0 per carry so far, and with Best testing the perimeter both running and receiving; Calvin Johnson stretching the defense vertically; and TE’s Tony Scheffler and Brandon Pettigrew working the short middle (each has 14 receptions already), the pieces are in place for Detroit to move the chains and eat clock, especially with Shaun Hill showing the ability to manage that kind of attack. That brings us a game flow that is nowhere near the domination being projected, leaving the Lions right in the hunt for the outright win deep into the second half.

2* St Louis (+) over Seattle

.St Louis was very impressive last week, especially in the second half, in a 30-16 win over Washington. The Rams "won" the second half 16-0 and overall for the game had a 24-15 first down edge. On the other hand last week Seattle was dominated on the statsheet as the Chargers had a 27-13 edge in first downs as well as a commanding 518-271 yardage edge. It was two touchdowns on kickoff returns that won the game for the Hawks. However, that was at home where the collegiate atmosphere Pete Carrol has created makes Quest Field very tough, but note that Seattle was dominated in its only road game so far this season. Look for Sam Bradford and the Rams to get the win here.
