Iowa at Dallas

The teams with the best quarterbacks tend to do well in the AFL. Iowa's Brad Banks is a former Heisman runner-up at Iowa and he is a solid QB in the league. He has 40 TD's and 10 int's and led his team to a 76-69 (145 points!) victory over San Jose a few weeks ago. In his last two games they have played a 61-60 (121) game with Tulsa and a 76-62 (138) game with the Philadelphia Soul. Banks has 17 TD's and just 2 int's in his last two games. He has good receivers in Schmidt, Blythe and McCowan. Banks throws too many int's and that is why Iowa is under .500.

Dallas QB is Dan Raudabaugh and he was the Offensive Player Of The Week last week. He was 29-35 with 7 TD's. The last two weeks Dallas has won on the road by 67-61 (128) and 72-63 (135) scores. His top receiver is Tiger Jones, who is one of the best all-time in the AFL and Dallas has picked up 16 rushing TD's from Ross.

I think we see a game in the 70-60 range that goes over.

TIGERS

Today we are going to play on the Detroit Tigers to even the series vs the Bluejays. In yesterdays write-up I correctly predicted that Toronto's Bats would come to life, and we were rewarded with a nice wire to wire winner featuring 15 hits, and 7 runs. Some would call this an offensive "explosion" as The Jays have averaged only 2.4 RPG their previous 5. I look for them to come back down to earth today as they will have to face Tigers SP and Ace Justin Verlander. Verlander in his last outing a loss vs the Yankees walked 4 and gave up 3 runs early over 6 innings pitched. I look for him to rebound off that loss nicely today and pick up the win here on the road. The Jays are not facing a lefty here today as I noted yesterday they are batting .300 against them this year, No they are facing Verlander who has a low 3.75 ERA and in fact the Jays are just 11-13 on the year vs RHSP's. Toronto has not performed well in day games and are just 3-11 on the year. Detroit needs a win here to stop the 5 game road losing streak. SP Romero gets the call for the Jays coming off an injury of his oblique he may not be in 100% Form. The tigers are 7-4 this year vs Leftys, and I look for that number to improve here today.
THE OWAD IS ON THE Detroit Tigers

5:00 PM,

Both games in this series so far have gone OVER. In Game 1 the oddsmakers put out a total of 194.5 and it sailed over with w/a 114-101 score (215 pts) Game 2 had almost similar results Sailing over the adjusted 197 w/a 111-102 score (213 pts). The oddsmakers have made yet again another 3 pt adjustment and for this game the totals is now at 200+. Both teams are scoring over 100 ppg this year and in fact the Last 5 games for each team has seen OKC averaging 102 and Memphis at 104.4. So WHY is the total only set at 200? It will be safe to say that Most Public Bettors will again take the over here, but for this reason I believe there is great value in playing the UNDER and I believe that the "Smart" Money will be on the Under in this contest. This would be what I like to call a version of the classic "Trap" game. For OKC the UNDER is 5-1 when they are on the road when the posted total is between 200 and 204.5 this year. The UNDER is also 17-10 when OKC is listed as an Underdog this year. This year 23-20 UNDER in all road games for OKC. On the other hand for Memphis the UNDER is 6-3 in a home game where where the total is between 200 and 204.5 points this year. If we also look at Memphis' Defense we can see that they have actually held opponents to just 97 PPG avg on the year. I think both teams already shot the lights out in games 1 & 2 and after the high scoring affairs you can bet that both coaches will be preaching "Defense" in this one. This will be a classic Playoff atmosphere and I believe that it will be a defensive, low scoring game with plenty of "jitters" for both teams.
