THE GOLD SHEET
KEY RELEASES
TENNESSEE by 23 over Vanderbilt
*Tennessee 37 - VANDERBILT 14—With UT’s strong-armed, mobile, 6-6, true frosh QB Bray (649 YP & 7 TDP last 2 games!) performing with precision & poise, must support suddenly-explosive Vols (51 ppg last 2), needing to win final two to become bowl eligible. So, look for UT to easily capture its 15th straight victory in Nashville, where offensively (18 ppg) and defensively-feeble Vandy (152 pts. last 3) has dropped 9 straight vs. spread as SEC host.
RUTGERS by 1 over Cincinnati
Rutgers 27 - CINCINNATI 26—Two-time defending Big East champ Cincy needs to sweep its last 3 games just to be eligible for bowl bid, while Rutgers has to win 2 of last 3 to qualify for postseason. Scarlet Knight true frosh WR/”Wildcat” QB Deering (29 carries for 166 yards last week!) plus porous Bearcat defense (19 TDP, only 4 ints.) likely to equal a close victory for play- ’em-close Rutgers (7 of last 8 games decided by 5 points or fewer).
WISCONSIN by 18 over Michigan
Wisconsin 42 - MICHIGAN 24—With Michigan QB Dennard Robinson’s efficiency regressing (4 ints. last 2 games; threw just 1 in 1st 5) and Wolverine defense ranked last in the Big Ten, must give red-hot Wisconsin a look. Michigan is 2-19 vs. the points last 21 conference games, and Badgers know that this is the key game in their route to the Rose Bowl (only a home game against Persa-less Northwestern remains for Wiscy).
ARMY by 3 over Notre Dame
Army 30 - Notre Dame 27—ND defense did a good job holding Utah without a TD last week, but don’t think Irish stop unit will have same luck facing Army’s option. ND has covered only 2 of last 16 as a favorite, and Black Knight QB Steelman showed he can throw if necessary (completed 9 of 10 to loosen up Kent State’s No. 3 run defense last week).
