Toledo –5 @ Ball State
Pick: Toledo –5
Let’s face it Toledo’s Quarterback Opelt was not going to put up impressive numbers against Ohio State, but he has proven himself otherwise with passing games of 423, 319 and 343 yards this season. New Hampshire & North Texas passed for over 200 yards against Ball State defense so Opelt will have no problem moving the ball downfield. The running of senior DaJuane Collins, the throwing of senior Aaron Opelt, the receiving of senior Stephen Williams and freshman sensation Eric Page all give Toledo enough weapons to dominate this game. Collins is coming off a game where he carried the ball 19 times for a game-high 151 yards and two touchdowns. Stephen Williams caught a team-high six passes for 116 yards last week. The senior has 10 career games where he has had more than 100 receiving yards.
Cardinals are at a low point in the season off to a 0-4 start that includes two home losses to North Texas and New Hampshire. Ball State’s offense will struggle keeping up with the Toledo offense since they are scoring fewer than 20 points in the first three games of the season. News did not get better when they lost a backup CB to a serious knee injury and FS Baker will be playing with heavy padding on the hand.
Last week Ball State changed their game plan and went with small stuff for their inexperienced QB. Auburn’s defense did not look prepared for this game style and Page was able to produce what looks to be ok numbers. He will need to be able to make big plays to keep up with Toledo. Ball State will really need WR Jeremy Hill, the Cardinals’ only legitimate deep threat in the passing game to play since he left last week’s game late in the second quarter after sustaining a hamstring injury. His status for this week is uncertain.
Toledo offense keeps scoring leading them to an easy victory…………………
