If everything goes to script, tonight's game 7 between the Chicago Bulls & Boston Celtics should provide us another classic finish.
Chicago earned the right to live another day with a thrilling 128-127 triple-overtime win on Thursday that still has basketball fans buzzing.
The key for tonight's game will be the best player on the floor, which is Boston's Paul Pierce. Rajon Rondo may be averaging a triple-double, but Pierce is the team's captain & won Finals MVP last June while help Boston end their 18-year title drought. In 3 Celtic wins, Pierce is shooting 50% from the field but just 38% in 3 Celtic losses.
Chicago's Ben Gordon has been mired into a bad shooting slump recently (10 for 35 shooting for 29% in last 2 games), so this will most likely require another big performance from the Bulls' bench, which mainly consists of Kirk Hinrich & Brad Miller.
It's been one hell of a series and possibly the best of all-time. But, Boston had their chance to close it out with an 8 point lead in the game's final 3:30 during the 4th quarter of Game 6 and couldn't get it done.
But unlike last season, Boston doesn't have Kevin Garnett or a reliable bench to lean on in order to extend their season.
Chicago will win tonight to knock out the defending champs & earn the right to play Orlando in the 2nd round.
All Bulls!
The Kansas City Royals will look to claim sole possesion of 2nd place in the AL Central tonight as they take on the Minnesota Twins.
Royals righthander Brian Bannister (2-0, 0.69 ERA) will start & be opposed by Twins southpaw Glen Perkins (1-2, 2.48 ERA).
Bannister has allowed just 1 run in his first 13 innings of work so far & finished 1-1 against Minnesota last season with a 5.09 ERA.
Perkins has a no-decision in his only previous start against Kansas City on September 27th, 2008.
In that game, Perkins pitched 5 innings & allowed just 1 run on 4 hits during the Twins' 4-2 loss.
Look for Minnesota to win their 2nd straight game since the return of Joe Mauer, who homered in his season-debut on Friday.
All Twins!
