Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers
Both the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers will hope to be in the midst of three-game winning streaks when this Lone Star State rivalry picks back up Monday night from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The Astros invaded Tinseltown with their tail between their legs having just dropped three in a row at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Manager Brad Mills’ squad took the opportunity of bouncing back against the Dodgers in stride though capturing wins in each of the teams’ first two meetings on Friday and Saturday. In doing so, the Astros moved to 14-20 as a visitor where they’ve now only cost MLB bettors $111 heading into the series finale on Father’s Day. That said; Houston has had a heck of a time in Interleague play managing wins on just four of their L/17 tries.
Not even Mother Nature got in the way of allowing the Rangers to add to the Braves woes on Saturday as Texas outslugged Atlanta 11-4 and managed to tally a lone run in the top of the 10th to guarantee themselves a series win for the first time since June 4th. With Seattle falling to the Phillies on Saturday, the Rangers now hold a 1.5-game lead in the AL West and get to return to Arlington where they’re 20-13 (+$271) for an extended six-game Interleague home stand.
To say that Texas has dominated this in-state rivalry would be putting it very mildly. Josh Hamilton and his mates embarrassed the ‘Stros to the tune of taking five of their six meetings each of the last two seasons. Surprisingly though, each of Houston’s two combined wins came in Arlington. The ‘under’ is 7-5 in those games. Both Bud Norris and Derek Holland have started in seven wins and seven losses for their respective teams to date. Houston is a perfect 4-0 its L/4 vs. a lefty but just 2-10 its L/12 vs. AL West opposition. Texas is 17-7 its L/24 Interleague games played (Sunday pending) and 8-3 in Holland’s L/11 home outings.
