Oregon 74 - CREIGHTON 72—
We doubt there were any evil
geniuses at work at CBI Headquarters who were plotting that Oregon
and Creighton would run into each other before the tourney was
complete. After all, it took until the finals before these two got together.
But another couple layers of intrigue are now definitely layered on top
of this unique best-of-three college matchup to determine the event’s
champion, simply because longtime Bluejay HC Dana Altman moved to
Eugene last offseason after 16 seasons in Omaha, and will now be
facing his old team.
Altman would figure to be more than a bit familiar with much of the
Creighton lineup that returned four starters from his final Bluejay edition
last season, although it’s no longer quite the same team under first-year
HC Greg McDermott, lured from Iowa State after a previous successful
Missouri Valley run at Northern Iowa. New faces such as McDermott’s
6-7 frosh son Doug (team-high 15 ppg) and 6-8 Rutgers transfer
Gregory Echenique (59% from the floor) have given Creighton a bit
more presence on the blocks than Altman’s recent editions. Still, the
key matchup will likely be how Bluejay frosh PG Jahenns Manigat (from
Canada), who has developed a sharper edge offensively as the season
has progressed, deals with the many three-quarter-court presses,
traps, and matchup zones that Altman employs with his Oregon
defense, which—at its best—can be extremely disruptive with its quick
athletes on the perimeter.
Although the Ducks did blow a bit hot and cold this season,
Oregon’s success seems related to its energy level, which has been
high in the CBI and figures to be through the roof against Altman’s old
team. If the Ducks can stretch the Creighton defense by hitting some
treys (which Oregon has done a decent 42% its last two games) and
create some extra space for versatile wing E.J. Singler (11.7 ppg & 40%
triples) and bruising post threat Joevan Catron (15.5 ppg; 24 points in
the semifinal win over Boise State), Oregon’s disruptive defense is enough to steal a decision in Nebraska and take a 1-0 lead back to the Ducks new Matt Arena

I lost another 100 dimes yesterday as the Celtics blew thier lead. I promise Im going to make it back for you guys tonight on Manic Monday.

Im putting out another 100 dimes on the Boston Celtics as they will bounce back at -3. I was down about 35 dimes last week. Watch me make 200 tonight> Dont sit on the sideline and enjoy the game, WATCH AND GET PAID.
