300-Unit NFL Monday Mismatch - PITTSBURGH STEELERS
There is some serious motivation in this one for the Steelers who were swept by the Bengals last season and kept out of the playoffs. Now Pittsburgh comes to Cincinnati for this primetime showdown looking to had the Bengals their fifth straight loss. Look for the Steelers defense to dominate this one and deliver a relatively easy win for Pittsburgh.
The Steelers had an eight-game winning streak in Cincinnati snapped last season with a 23-20 loss, blowing an 11-point fourth-quarter lead. For his career, Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger is 6-1 in his career in Cincinnati with 12 TD passes and just four INTs. In their last nine trips to Cincinnati, the Steelers have run for an average of 162.1 yards per game, and they face the Bengals’ defense that has allowed 138.2 yards per game on the ground in their last three games.
Cincinnati’s offense has had trouble finding any consistency lately as they can’t seem to figure out if they are a run-first or throw-first offense. QB Carson Palmer has 12 TDs and seven INTs and has struggled to get into any rhythm with his outspoken WRs Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco.
The big boost for the Pittsburgh defense this week comes in the return of DE Brett Keisel who has anchored that line for a few years now. Their defense has uncharacteristically given up 42 points in their last two games, with the loss of Keisel being a big reason for the problems. With him back, all the other key figures on defense can get back to doing what they do best.
In this rivalry, the road team is 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 meetings and the Steelers are 7-1-1 ATS in the last nine clashes in Cincinnati. The Bengals are on further ATS skids of 1-6 against AFC teams, 1-6 after a non-cover, 1-4 against winning teams and 1-4 as an underdog.
The Steelers will show that their defense is still the best in the league. Go ahead and lay the points with Pittsburgh in this one and watch as they win it somewhere in the 20-10 range.
