Let's don't get too excited about Carolina's 6-0 record. And let's no go crazy that the Colts have a disappointing 3-4 record and have lost two games in a row. For Carolina, the two-time defending NFC South champions have yet to beat an opponent that currently has a winning record. They did surprise many in week 6 with a 27-23 win at Seattle. Last Sunday's 27-16 victory over Philadelphia was a very nice win for the home crowd. Monday night may not bold well for them. The Panthers are a team one bets when they are an underdog. They are not built to play as a favorite. They do not score a tremendous amount of points. They have Cam Newton manage their one dimensional rushing offense and control the game with their very good defense. That method worked in the NFC South the past two seasons. It works with less superior teams. It works with teams that have a minimal offense. It won't usually work with a team that can score points. Newton's career-low 55.8 completion percentage, nine touchdowns against seven interceptions and 78.4 rating does not produce points. They rush the ball. They eat up the clock. That is not how you cover spreads as a favorite. On the opposing side, the Colts won't need to panic because it remains atop an AFC South division that's the worst in football. Look for Frank Gore to rewind his clock and pound it downhill right at them. Look for Andrew Luck to pass more effectively as his line holds better and reduces their holding penalties. The Colts are a very dangerous team that may win this game rather easily.
