Big Al McMordie

At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Dallas Cowboys minus the points over New York. Last week, Dallas fell to the Minnesota Vikings (by 3 points, as 1.5-point underdogs), and are now 1-4 on the season. Obviously, this is a must-win for Dallas, if it is to get back into the NFC East race, and I think it will rise to the occasion. Overall, the Cowboys have lost two straight games, but .560 (or worse) NFL teams off exactly two losses are an exceptional 19-1 ATS vs. division rivals, if they lost on the road as a favorite, or a dog of less than 3 points the previous week, and they're now matched up against a foe off back to back wins. And, if our 'play-on' team is priced from +5 to -6 points, our angle zooms to a perfect 15-0 ATS. The Giants also failed to cover the spread last week vs. Detroit, and New York is a poor 5-13 ATS vs. Dallas off a pointspread loss. Monday Night Football Game of the Year on the Cowboys. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

POINTWISE

DALLAS 30 - New York Giants 20 - (8:35 - ESPN) -- Difficult to believe that the 'Boys stand at 1-4, despite a stat edge in all 5 games. As noted above, they held the Vikes to just 14 FDs & 188 yds, but got killed by the KO return & TOs. We know that Dallas has allowed 27 & 34 pts in its 2 HGs so far, but this one seems a "do-or-die" affair from their standpoint. Giants rolling: 68-33 FD, 474-147 RY, 1,120-671 TY edges in their last 3 games, but not the best of Monday Night dogs (1-5 ATS), while the Cowboys are 9-1 ATS at home off a SU loss vs an opponent off a SU win. NFL's 2nd ranked "O" puts enough pts on the board for must win.

THE GOLD SHEET

*DALLAS 30 - NY Giants 22—If the loser of last week’s 1-3 Dallas showdown in Minnesota was certain to be headed for depression, than there must not be much Zoloft left in “Big D” this week. Worse yet, N.Y. has won and covered 4 of the last 5 meetings (2-1 in Texas), with 5 of the last 7 battles being shootouts that have gone “over.” G-Men (4-2) clearly playing better. But this is the NFL, where it is so common for last week’s winners to lose and last week’s losers to win. Cowboys guilty of 11 more penalties last Sunday at Minneapolis. If they just were to cut the recent mistakes, they have all the talent they need to take N.Y. And expected kamikaze home effort should do it, considering Dallas’ bounty of playmakers.
