ROCCO VINCINTORE
Carl Pavano gets another chance to continue the excellent work that has made him the Twins' best starter this season. In fact, the 34-year-old right-hander is having his best season since 2004, when he went 18-8 with a 3.00 ERA for Florida.
Pavano has been one of the league's best pitchers for nearly 2 1/2 months. He's 9-1 in 12 starts since June 3 and has pitched deep into games on a consistent basis.
Gonzalez doesn't have an extensive track record against Minnesota, but will have to do a better job against its left-handed hitters. Joe Mauer and Jason Kubel have both homered and leadoff man Denard Span is 4-for-8 against him. Michael Cuddyer, a right-handed hitter, is 3-for-3 with a home run against Gonzalez.
The Twins are 14-3 in their last 17 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30, the Twins are 10-1 in Pavanos last 11 starts on grass.and the Athletics are 0-5 in Gonzalezs last 5 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.
