Gold Sheet
MIAMI 97 - Philadelphia 95—Loss of starting PG Mario Chalmers to a knee
injury for an extended stretch can’t be good for paper-thin Miami. The Heat must
now rely on vet Mike Bibby (turns 33 in May), whose career is winding down, as
he’s at career-lows in scoring, assists and steals. The Heat have been without
Udonis Haslem for months, and without support, Wade, James & Bosh continue
to take turns going one-on-one and getting their numbers (and most of the time
they also win the game). However, Erik Spoelstra’s crew has a knack for winning
small far too often, especially at AmericanAirlines Arena, where they are a
miserable 13-22 as a home favorite. Philadelphia G Andre Iguodala (14 ppg, 6.5
apg & 6 rpg) is expected to be back in action after resting his sore knee Saturday
in Portland. Iguodala has shot 54%, averaged 15 pts., 8 rebs., 5 assists & 2.5
steals in his matchup against Dwyane Wade in series this season. Miami’s All-
Star triumverate combined to shoot just 44.2% against the Sixers in first two
meetings. 10-Mia -7' 97-87 (191), MIA -11 99-90 (195); 09-Mia +2 105-78 (189),
MIA -6' 104-91 (192), MIA -11 99-95 (192), Mia -4 107-105 (192)
Detroit 92 - CLEVELAND 82—Detroit has taken care of business in winning
a pair vs. Cleveland already, and probably prefer Pistons even if they have to lay
points for the first time on the road this season. Certainly it’s out of the question
to go with Cleveland as a favorite (Cavs 1-7 as chalk), and don’t believe Cav
brass were planning on starting Samardo Samuels and Alonzo Gee on the
frontline when they laid plans for Life after LeBron in the offseason. The Pistons
are 9-3 visiting “C” teams on the road, John Kuester’s club is scoring 101 ppg &
shooting 48% in March, as he’s doling out the minutes based on attitude &
performance. Kuester has even let G Rip Hamilton out of the doghouse (though
not often into the starting lineup), and Hamilton has made the most of his game
time, scoring 14.5 ppg while playing an average of 28 minutes. Cavs have so few
offensive threats, it’s no wonder they’ve gone “under” 6-1 in last 7, putting up just
84 ppg in that run. 10-DE -5 102-92 (193), Det +1' 103-94 (195); 09-Cle -5 98-88
(184), CLE -12 99-92 (201), Cle -10' 113-101 (198), CLE -12 104-79 (201)
