NCAAF:
1* akron/bowling green - under 53
Akron is down to their 3rd string QB , freshman Nicely. Akron is putting up less than 15 ppg since he took over. Against Temple last week , Akron had 3 TO that gave Temple a short field to work with. It is doubtful that Akron gives that short of a field to Bowl Green that many times here. Bowling green has rescued their season by putting together 4 wins in 5 games, mostly on the road. Their defense is a little more stout right now. Where akron is strong is pass defense and passing is the strength of Bowling green so Akron matches up well with the Falcons. Akron is weak in run defense and Bowling Green has only outrushed 2 teams all year. The games vs Ball st and Miami-OH are perfect example of what we can see today 30-14 type games.
1* Utah st +23.5
The Boise st public tax is being applied here. They are the darlings of the public and what should be a 17-19 pt spread is inflated to 23.5 here because of the perception that Boise needs to run up the score on everyone. Utah st is averaging 27.6 PPG and much like La-tech , they can put up the points to hang inside this # here. Boise is averaging 43PPG and if they do that Utah st will have to be held to a TD less than their season average here to not cover. Utah st has covered 7 of 10 games this year and this is a good # to make it 8 of 11.
NCAABB:
2* Ohio st -2
I am going to come right back with Ohio st here. Most of the reasons Cal got blown out yesterday still apply here. Robinson is being held out again after re-spraining his foot in
Thursday morning shoot around. and 2nd leading returning scorer Kamp didn't accompany the team to new york either. Both Being held out was a surprise yesterday as both were supposed to play. Tonight this line has value because of the way the Buckeyes played in the 1st half last night. Evan Turner all by himself gave Carolina a huge halftime lead with his 9 turnover 1st half. Once he stopped turning the ball over, the Tar Heels had no answer for him and Ohio st was rolling.
1* boston college -8.5 over st joseph's
BC is going to be under the radar as a 2nd tier ACC school. They took some lumps last year but have most of their team back. They get 3 players back from suspension tonight also. With Sanders back, BC has a strong and balanced starting 5. I will look to play on BC vs the weaker teams , but against them vs the Duke and N.Carolina's of the ACC. St Joes is a middle of the pack A-10 team at best. In fact they were picked to finish 10th in the a-10 in more than one magazine. No one is confusing the a-10 of being a power conference so look for the talent disparity to rise up here and have BC win by 10-15.
NBA:
1* portland -7.5 over golden st
this line is coming down from its opener of 9 and I am surprised it didn't go to 10. Golden st is in for a rough season. They are injured, just traded their disgruntled star away and got more questions in return and now come off a grueling east coast swing. The 1st came back off a long road trip is a great time to fade a team, especially when facing a hot team like the Blazers. Portland is 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games. They aren't playing Atlanta so they should be good..lol.
1* orlando/boston under 192
Well this is the game stan Van Gundy was pointing to when he blasted his team for it's lack of defensive focus. the Macic have allowed 85.7 PPG in the 3 games since. Boston is seeking payback for the Magic knocking them out of the playoffs. When the Celtics want "payback" it usually comes in the form of defensive intensity. Look for the Celtics to wiin this low scoring game with a fast start and a defensive mentality throughout. This one might be a 95-88 type of game.
