NBA Playoffs: 5/21

Eastern Conference Finals: Game 2
Orlando - Cleveland 8:05 ET TNT

2 Plays: Total 3.85 Units risked
Cleveland -9 / Orlando 8:05 ET 1.5 Units
Under 188.5 Orlando / Cleveland 2 Units
We love it when 5 point adjustments are made for no real reason. Sure these teams went off in game one offensively but that's all the more reason to make a case for the under in game 2. Cleveland has got to be sick about losing the opener. They let Dwight Howard get inside all night and there's no excuse for that other than feeling invincible having ran the table in rounds 1 & 2. Now's it's back to business as usual for the Cavs. Cleveland allowed an average of 78 points in their first 8 games of the playoffs to Detroit & Atlanta, so with a line of 9 and 188.5 tonight, the line maker's theoretical final is 99-89, allowing for Orlando to score 11 more points than Cleveland averaged allowing in the 1st 2 rounds. Granted the Magic are a better team than both Detroit and Atlanta but not by 11 points! We feel the game 1 number of 184 is an accurate line but once again the public loves to overreact to offensive performances like the one they saw in game 1.

In addition to the value in the total, don't forget that Orlando is coming off of 2 spectacular shooting performances from the field: 55% in game 1 vs Cleveland and 51% in game 7 vs Boston. With a combination tonight of Cleveland guarding the paint which will force more Orlando jump shots as opposed to high percentage lay ups, and the Magics' shooting coming back down to earth, we can see Orlando being held in the 70's - 80's while Cleveland gets out to the early lead and never looks back.

Sports MarketWatch – MLB Games to Watch

Atlanta Braves +154 over Toronto Blue Jays

The Braves, owners of a pedestrian 20-20 record, welcome the AL East-leading Blue Jays to Turner Field tonight with no intention of being the cure for what ails them. Toronto has surprised baseball fans all season with clutch hitting and a seemingly endless stream of transcendent performances by young pitchers. Indeed, the only thing not surprising about the Blue Jays' season is that Roy Halladay is once again the most consistent starter in the game, lasting at least seven innings in each game and leading the majors in wins. He'll go up against Kenshin Kawakami, a Japanese rookie who has been fairly underwhelming thus far with a 2-5 record and 5.73 ERA. Atlanta's franchise third baseman Chipper Jones is out after injuring his foot running the bases last night, a big blow to a lineup that already hits 25 average points less than Toronto. There surely don't seem to be many situational indicators that the Braves are in for a good night.

At Sports Insights, however, we always want to know where the money is going. Halladay's Blue Jays opened as -165 favorites at CRIS, and their recent losing streak hasn't diminished the public's enthusiasm. They're receiving 86% of the bets, but the line isn't moving accordingly. Instead, at many places, it sits at -157. This is a great opportunity to follow our philosophy to Bet Against the Public, and we also have seen a Smart Money play triggered on Atlanta at 5dimes (+1.95 Units). MarketWatch has spotted pitchers about to come back to Earth before, and we'll take the sharp money on the Braves to do the same to Halladay and the Blue Jays tonight.

Atlanta +154

Milwaukee Brewers +128 over Minnesota Twins

The Brew-Crew take a short trip to the Metrodome this weekend representing the fierce NL Central. Yes, you read that correctly. The NL Central has been righteous this season, boasting 4 teams over .500 and two of the top three records in the National League. Milwaukee lost ace CC Sabathia in the offseason and has also been without the services of Ben Sheets due to injury, yet they lead the division, having won 8 of their last 10 games. Minnesota seems to be heading in the other direction, losers of 5 of their last 6 games.

Perhaps America has a lot of love for Twins' starter Kevin Slowey; maybe everyone saw too many highlights of yesterday's 20-1 bashing of the White Sox. For whatever reason, the public is backing the Twins at home to the tune of 69% of the public bets. We've seen a Steam Move triggered at pinnacle (+10.3 Units) and believe Slowey's counterpart Manny Parra is up to the task. Let's ride Milwaukee's hot streak and the market steam to another "plus-money" win.

Friday's Plays...

20 Dime ?

MAGIC

Take the points with the Magic tonight in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference finals series against the Cavaliers.

Do I expect the Magic to grab another outright win here?

No, not really.

Would I be shocked if they pulled it off again?

Not in any way, shape or form.

The Magic just happen to match up very well with the Cavaliers and it?s reflected in their overall record against them in head-to-head meetings. Orlando is 7-2 SU in the last nine meetings and 11-1 ATS in the last 12.

And you?re telling me this line is the same as it was in Game 1?

Whatever, I?ll gladly take this gift.

Cleveland is basically LeBron James and not much else. Sure they have other role players who fit into the scheme, but no body else in that lineup can take the burden off LeBron or give opponents pause before concentrating all their efforts to contain King James.

Orlando can get scoring from the perimeter and in the paint. They also have a bench that not only produces, but is expected to produce. Cleveland?s bench basically just gives the starters a break and that?s it.

I can?t believe the linemaker didn?t adjust after what happened in Game 1.

Take Orlando plus the points as they stay within the number.

5 Dime ?

METS (With Santana and Matsuzaka as listed pitchers)

Take the Mets as the road chalk over the Red Sox.

I know the BoSox are rolling right now, but I just can?t pass up Johan Santana at this price, regardless of venue.

Santana has been brilliant since opening day, even if his teammates haven?t been able to live up to their end of the bargain.

But if Santana is on again tonight it won?t matter much what his bumbling teammates do behind him.

Besides, with Boston throwing Daisuke Matsuzaka tonight, the Mets should have plenty of opportunities to score.

Dice-K was lit up in his two starts before going on the DL with arm fatigue back on April 15. He has a tendency to rack up the pitch count so I don?t see him lasting more than five innings tonight.

Santana owns the most wins by any pitcher in interleague play and I expect him to notch another one tonight.

Take the Mets as they grab the road win.
