TOKYO, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Finance Minister Fukushiro Nukaga said on Wednesday the Japanese economy would likely improve later this year, adding that he would continue to monitor financial markets.

"The world's economy remain firm overall. In Japan, we have problems in housing but in the latter half of this year it will recover," Nukaga told reporters.

"I think the Japanese economy will improve later ... There are also views that the U.S. economy will recover later this year," he said when asked about a fall in Japanese share prices and the rise in the yen against the dollar.

Tokyo's Nikkei average .N225 plunged to 26-month low while the yen <JPY=> soared to a 2-1/2-year high against the dollar on Wednesday.

I'm seriously considering putting my entire 401k into various PM stocks and funds.

Thoughts?

I hate/fear JPM as much as GS

not to say they are immune to a stock drop like everybody else, but mess with The House Of Morgan you are messing with the plunge protection team itself......

as far as JPM's gold short position.....much like GS they are another owner of our central bank, the "FED" - something tells me they are not too concerned about having to cover that short position

Woofy:

I'm in UA with call options that expire in april at 45 strike. They will probably be worthless so I will lose all of the investment. Any drop below 45 is meaningless to me which shows the beauty of options limiting risk. I will get to see one more earnings report and if I like what I see, I will by some more calls on UA.

Tomorrow is looking like a capitualation day. I wouldn't be shocked to see the DOW drop 500 points with the NAZ losing over 100. I'm not calling a bottom but I can understand how Johnny Investor is just going to throw his hands up and give up tomorrow.

I don't ever remember this many multiple plus or minus 1 percent moves per day as we've had the last 3 weeks or so. The action has just been brutal.

Tomorrow should be fun for the Bears and miserable for Me.

I will be around either way

It looks like some serious buying opportunities are going to open up over the next 6-12 months as people panic.

Get it right...and you set yourself up for life guys.
