The way I look at this game is to just let the bowl games play out and see how each conference teams performed in the bowls. To me, your team is only as good as your conference. Whether Florida or OU have been playing quality opponents or not won't be known until they go up against other conferences. When I look at this game on paper I would obviously give the advantage to Florida. They've been great on both sides of the ball this season. But keep in mind that in 2006 Ohio State also had some very impressive numbers, and looked much the best on paper over Florida. But as we all found out, OSU's impressive record was a result of weak competetion. I think the biggest question surrounding this game is are the numbers skewed for each team? Here's how it breaks down:

First in reference to OU's defensive play. Here are the offenses that they've had to deal with this season: Texas Tech #4, Missouri #6, OSU #7, Texas #9, Nebraska #12 and Kansas #23. And on top of this, OU has been up by many points in these games and have played their second unit players throughout the second half of many of these games when most of the yardage and scores have been put up on OU.

OU is #65 on defense this year. But the question is how much would this defense move up if they were playing in the SEC where there is a lot of bad offensive teams and QB play? My hunch is the Sooners would be in the top 20 in defense if they were in the SEC. Hell, Texas has the number #50 defense. And there is no way this team is the 50th best defense in the country.

Florida is ranked #9 in total defense. But let's look at some of the offenses they've faced. Georgia #21, Ole Miss #37, Arkansas #53, LSU #54, Florida State #55, Alabama #56, South Carolina #96, Tennessee #115 and Vandy #117.

So obviousdly this leads to the question of is Floirda's defense really that good, or the product of playing horrible offensive teams with bad QB's?

And is OU's defense that bad, or is it because they have played some of the best offenses in the country with by far the best QB's?

Bottom line is we can talk about these two teams all we want here, but we won't know for sure about which of these two conferences are better until we start playing these bowl games.

Not really a legit comparison as UF's second team defense was in early in the 3rd Q for most of the season. If you look at the ydg and points given up by the first team, those number start to look really strong. Same with the offense. UF scored a ton of points, but Tebow came out by mid-end of 3rd for most of the games.

I'm like the rest of you - tired of this argument already. No one will agree no matter what. Just play the game.

coach, just for the record my post wasn't anything against you. I was mearly pointing out to the poster that started this thread that the SEC offenses stink and that makes their defenses look a little better than they are. I mean when you play OOC games and those teams almost accross the board put up more points on you than any of your conference opponents I think that makes a pretty good case that the SEC defenses aren't all there cracked up to be. Any conference could have 9 teams in the top 60 of defense when that same conference also has 6 of the worst offenses in the nation.

Kansas State gave up 38 to Louisville, the highest total for Louisville against BCS competition all year. Kentucky gave up TWO to Louisville. Kansas State also gave up 37 to LA-Lafayette. Texas A&M gave up 41 to Miami, Colorado gave up 39 to Florida State, Missouri gave up 42 to Illinois, Nebraska gave up 35 to Virginia Tech (their highest total all year! They only scored 27 against Western Kentucky and 24 against Furman!), Baylor gave up 41 to Wake, Kansas gave up 37 to South Florida, etc.

The truth is the Big12 defenses arent as bad as some would believe and the SEC defenses arent as great as some would believe.

I think it all remains to be seen. I find it hard to believe that the SEC doesn't still have some top notch defenses. I still think Florida, Bama, South Carolina and Auburn have some of the best defenses in the country. As for the Big 12 defenses, the South Division defenses are definitely better than the North. OU's defense has been up and down this season. The big reason is because the Sooners lost LB Ryan Reynolds in the Texas game. He was the heart and soul of the defense. And because Stoops had to reshuffle players in the lineup like strong safeties to linebacker, it kind of led to a domino affect. The MLB position is arguably the hardest position to fill on defense. And it took the players and this defense a few weeks to adjust to these new positions. After the Texas game, this was the biggest reason why OU's defense had such a poor showing against Kansas and Kansas State. Once these players got used to these new positions, they started playing much better defense. And any points that were scored on this defense were afterthoughts after the game had long been decided. OU didn't play a great defensive game against OSU. But much of that was OSU's doing. They are a great offensive team that was playing on their home field. And nobody gets up for OU like the Pokes. The next week OU plays Missouri in the Big 12 CG and hold them to their season low 21 points. And OU held a team that averages 500 yards of offense a game to 350 yards. Same with Texas Tech. They were held to their season low 21 points against OU. But instead of praising OU's defense, all I heard was these teams were now phonies because they lost this way. OU apparantly didn't have anything to do with it. As for Florida, the thing I worry about most in this game is not OU's offense or defense. It's special teams. Bad special teams play is what cost them the game against Texas. Shipley's kickoff return for a TD totally changed the momentum of that game. And it also cost OU points against KSU and OSU. And almost all of Cincy's points came as a result of special teams and Gilyard's 200 return yards on OU that day. If there is one aspect of this game where Florida has a huge advantage over OU it's special teams. It could be the difference in the game.

oh great this again. i'm out here in california as a neutral observer trying to set you retarded sec people straight who still think your defenses are worth a damn and offenses have a pulse. Your not being honest with yourself if you think sec have good offenses and their defenses looks so good because of the lousy qb play and terrible offensive schems.

i really don't have time to explain it, but if you listen to Colin Cowherd at all he's talked about it multiple times.

Tennessee lost to Wyoming in Knoxville. Also Lost to UCLA
Troy had a 20+ lead in the 2nd Half in Baton Rouge
Auburn beat Miss St by a score of 3 - 2.
GT demolished Georgia (ranked #1 to start the season)
Vanderbilt lost to Duke at home.
Auburn lost big at WVU.

Are you seeing a clear picture, when SEC play out of conference games they get exposed and smoked. look for more of the same in the bowl games. You gotta be honest with yourselves sec homers. With the exception of UF you stink this year.

how can you live with yourself with that statement who wins the national titles each year you idiot... problem solved your an idiot
