Ainge pisses me off! Being that they were not going to get Oden or Durnat I was hoping theyd grab Jeff Green. They do and they TRADE HIM!!!! Ray Allen will be good for celts for 1 year and that will be it and they will be lucky to grab #8 seed if other east teams regress. Meanwhile Seattle will be in the finals in 2 years.

Only silver lining here is if somehow Sean Williams is available that far down - it's a stretch and unlikely but.. otherwise this is a terrible move. Scerbiak, who cares, but West is a fine player and won many games for them in his first few years.

Sean Williams will be the surprise of this draft. Within 2 years his offense will come around and as a rookie he will contend for defensive player of the year if he gets playing time. Better D' than Ben Wallace in the middle, maybe not as strong a rebounder.

So why does ainge avoid all the vitriol that other's have had flung at them in Boston? I wasn't crazy about his being appointed and nothinghas changed my feelings, he's terrible!

Because people only seem to care about the Sox and Pats at this point. Bruins and Celts are jokes. Ainge HAS TO GET OLDER. If not they are doomed again. He could have done worse though the Celts are still hurting. Your right though he could be run out of town and hasn't.

What a piss poor trade for Boston. Allen is no spring chicken anymore, and playing on two bad ankles. He never could play defense. At this point, he reminds me of Dale Ellis (can shoot the lights out, but not much else). Good player, but not worth the 5 pick.

The only cool thing about this for the Celts is that now Ray Allen and Allan Ray will be teammates.

Wow - I missed that! LOL - never mind then, the trade is totally groovy!!++

Hey TomB, I don't know if they could have done worse honestly. I would rather have Green than Ray allen straight up, ya know what I mean? Green is going to be a star. I'm not sure if Ray cares anymore honestly.

The more i think about it, the more you may be right. Ainge was forced into this because they have to get older and Pierce demanded more veterans etc. Ainge sucks. The Celts are a disgrace right now.

TB, Rev AL. Chiming in a bit late here.

But I LOVE this trade.

It's exactly as you pointed out, the real risk is giving up the 5 pick. But nothing wrong with taking a guy who can score in the mid 20's and offing Wally's rediculous contract.

The C's should be at least a little more fun to watch.

boston should try and claim "bad line" and cancel the trade tomorrow. looks like a pretty bad trade to me. Jeff Green is very good

What a fucking terrible trade for the Celts....this is embarassinig for that organization.....trading the number 5 pick of the draft, along with two other players for Ray Allen. A 32 year old perimeter scorer. Dont they already have an aging perimeter scorer? What a joke.

It's a decent short term solution for those paying money and sick of seeing young players try and develop.

Give me two guys who can score in the mid 20's, I will spend to see that.

Nobody can win without a legit big man unless the team has Michael Jordan and theres only a small handful of those tall talents, so in the mean time at least give me an interesting tandem to watch.

Totally disagree....horrible move.....Celts will still suck....they may get into the playoffs, but that is not big accomplishment in the East. Will they be a top 4 team in the East? No chance. This team still sucks and they traded what could have been a solid young player for an aging player. Horrible trade.

Make that two solid players. Delonte West is a good, efficient PG who the Celtics completely fucked over because they are one of the worst-run franchises in basketball. Doc Rivers is a moron and kept changing his role, despite how effective he was at the point.

I'm thankful he's getting outta there and will hopefully get the chance to run the show in Seattle (assuming they deal Ridnour).

I did like the Celts' pick of Gabe Pruitt. But they still don't have a true point who can distribute. What they do have is two injury-prone shooters who need to dominate the ball, but no one to get it to them. Good stuff.

Can't wait till they find a way to get rid of Jefferson. Idiots.

This team can do what the 01-02 team did that went to the Eastern Confrence Finals.

Allen is so much better than Walker.

But can they stay healthy enough and who will step up the way Kenny Anderson did that season.

No chance that this team gets further than Miami, Detroit, Chicago, or Cleveland. No chance at all. Sorry.

bad team which could have gotton a rebuilding block instead gets a veteran who will probably be disinterested. veterans traded to mediocre or worse teams can be disinterested, or worse

Ainge could actually be worsening an already bad situation. Word in Boston is that the Celts are not done yet trading and this was a beginning for other moves. It goes from bad to worse.

I just realized something.

The Celtics have Ray Allen and Allen Ray on the team. Tommy Heinson is going to lose his mind this season.

Well...they were able to acquire a veteran star, and not trade Al Jefferson or Gerald Green. But, most typical fans don't realize the value of Theo Ratliff's contract...expiring contract after this season.

I def. expect them to make one more trade for another point guard, w/ the guarantee of Theo Ratliff being part of the deal.

After a bit more thought, the trade clearly helps the Celtics. We're not talking about a team that was going to be a real contender anytime soon with all their youth. People can claim that Jeff Green or some other prospect might be great in a couple years, but Boston has enough of those guys. The loss of the #5 isn't a huge deal to a team that still has six solid players under 25. Plus, let's not act like they gave away an all star. We're not talking about an Oden or a Durrant here.

The loss of West isn't a big deal, since the Celtics decided they were going in another direction last season. That decision has already shown some benefit, as Rondo had a great last month of the season. With a 1-2-3 of Pierce, Allen, and Jefferson, this team will be fun to watch at very least. That's something we haven't had in awhile. And we still have a good group of young guys that may or may not flourish. So while it's not a great trade, it's far from terrible. It makes Boston competive in a weak conference. And that's a huge step toward getting NBA players to be willing to come to Boston. After all, no top stars want to come to Boston while they rebuild.

Getting rid of Wally and his contract is a good move for the team as well. And the trade was pushed in large part by Paul Pierce, who deserves better than the supporting cast he's had the last few years, and who has already been quoted as being "thrilled to death" about the deal. They needed a second scoring threat to go along with Pierce, and although Allen wasn't my first choice, he still fits that bill. And lastly, it definitely helps me accept this trade that they got a big guy in Glen Davis out of the deal. I think there will be a few teams kicking themselves for letting him slip to 35.

As for the talk that this is all leading up to a real "big" trade, there may be some truth to it. I've heard that there are still serious talks of Jefferson, Gerald Green, and Ratcliff for Garnett. Don't know how much truth there is to it. And I'm not positive yet how I feel about it. That kind of deal would make the Celtics flat out exciting to watch. And although I hate the idea of giving up Jefferson, the fact is that he's not a great defensive player, which is an area the Celtics are horrible in.

Oh yeah, and a new coach would be nice to round things off, but I think they're just waiting for the right guy to be available before giving Doc the boot.
