watched it too, a couple of days ago, although i liked it i felt that they could have done a much better job in terms of character development and plot. The compulsive protagonist goes from the bank he works in to the casino back and forth for a few tenths of times in the movie, with the occasional home or girlfriend visit, but i dint get a good sense of his social life, background or motivation etc. Of course, i could fill in the blanks myself out of my own gambling experience, but i would have prefered if the writers and director had not stuck to whatever little real life details they had but chose to give me their take on this gamblers ruin tale. Still, i would recomend it for some fine acting by the cast and its theme of course.

Watched this last night, i have to say it was quite depressing, not only that he lost the money, but if its accurate in how he bet, i don't think he ever intended on winning money, betting "All the home teams in the american league and all the away teams in the national laegue". Stupid stuff like that isn;t gambling, its coin flipping..

anyway it was a good flick!

Saw this week and actually liked it. I thought they could've done a better job too but it was an 1 and 1/2 movie not a miniseries so they had to get straight to the point.

It was a good movie. Not great, but good. I couldn't stop laughing when he told his bookie to give him the #1 horse in every race over the weekend.

I just saw it tonight, very sad story. Every gambler should watch it, if nothing else to realize they might have a problem.

Can't believe it was still a new release at Blockbuster, though

Correct title is, 'Owning Mahowny.' (Not Mahoney)-maybe that's why you didn't find it at BB?

Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Minnie Driver, Maury Chaykin, John Hurt, Sonja Smits, Ian Tracey, Roger Dunn, Jason Blicker, Chris Collins, Judi Embden, Makyla Smith, Matthew Ferguson, M.J. Kang, Mike 'Nug' Nahrgang

Oddly enough, I also got this movie off of Netflix, and also watched it tonight. Good, but depressing. What can you say?
