I'm also big on checking out setlists before i go to a concert so i know what to expect.
Also if the set lists are pretty consistent, i know when to go out to grab a drink or a pee break.
Just curious is you had a chance to check out the Guns N Roses tour (if you are a fan) in the past 3 years?
Saw Guns N Roses last November at the United Center. Absolutely amazing. Slash is killing it these days. At least 3 hours long, deep cuts, and crazy covers. The ticket prices are high but I would recommend seeing them as long as at least Axl, Slash and Duff are involved.
Saw a Guns and Roses and Metallica tour in the 90's at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Pretty damn good. Metallica ruled that night as GNR tended to be somewhat unfocused in this period. I actually think GNR is playing better today than they ever did.
The best tour this year in my opinion is the Slayer/Lamb of God/Anthrax/Testament lineup. Went to both the Chicago and Nashville shows. Highly recommended if you like the heavier stuff. Of the Big 4 bands Slayer is probably my favorite. But they all have their moments of course.
Looking for a place to go see the current Metallica show. Saw it at Soldier Field last summer but I'd like to see it in an arena. They aren't coming to Boston so I'm thinking maybe Albany or something like that. I recently put the new Metallica album on my iPod and it has some really good stuff, closer to the Black album IMO, meaning that although it's fast it "sounds" more like the Black album in my opinion.
The first four Metallica albums are in a class by themselves and I find it hard to believe that they will ever be able to recapture that magic.
I've seen all of the Metallica tours and it seems to me that the set lists are getting shorter. But I guess that's to be expected as we all hit our 50's and older.
And checking the set lists as already mentioned by Knightrofins is pretty important nowadays. As is finding out who is playing in these bands.
For whatever reason the show that stands out to me as my favorite of all time was in '84 in Tampa at the old USF Sun Dome when Motley Crue opened up for Ozzy. Ancient history. Good times!
