2 peas in a pod
In Scientology, its called disconnection. With the Jehovah's Witnesses, its called disfellowship and shunning. The JW's call the practice biblical based, L. Ron Hubbard didn't believe in Christ or the bible, but both groups use this practice. Jehovah's Witnesses will call people they have kicked out as apostates, Scientologists call them supressives. Both apostates and supressives are to be shunned according to these groups doctrines and practices.
Interestingly, although Scientology does not use the bible or Christianity, they call themselves the Church of Scientology and use a cross as part of their emblems. But Jehovah' Witnesses who do believe in the bible, don't believe in the cross (they believe in a "stake" instead) and don't call their meeting places churches, they call them Kingdom Halls.
