Indians deal Bourn, Swisher to Braves
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

The Cleveland Indians on Friday traded outfielder Michael Bourn and outfielder/first baseman Nick Swisher to the Atlanta Braves for infielder Chris Johnson.

The Indians also will send $10 million to the Braves to help fund the $29 million in guaranteed salaries for Bourn and Swisher in 2016.

The deal cannot become official until all players clear waivers.

Johnson, 30, missed most of May with a broken left hand and is hitting .235 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 56 games. Against left-handers, though, he is hitting .323. He played in 23 games at third base and 20 games at first base for the Braves.

Johnson will make $7.5 million next season and $9 million in 2017, and his team owns a $10 million option for 2018.

Bourn, 32, is hitting .246 with 12 doubles and 13 steals this season for the Indians. Since signing a four-year, $48 million deal in 2013, he has hit just .257. Now he will return to Atlanta, where he was an All-Star in 2012.

Swisher, 34, is hitting .198 with two homers and eight RBIs in 30 games this season. He signed a four-year, $56 million deal before the 2013 season and will be paid $15 million next season.

Giants place RHP Leake on DL
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

The San Francisco Giants placed right-hander Mike Leake on the 15-day disabled list Friday.

The Giants recalled left-hander Josh Osich from Triple-A Sacramento.

Leake had been scratched from his start against the Chicago Cubs on Friday due to a strained left hamstring. He threw before the game to test the hamstring.

"We decided to go ahead and put him on the disabled list and give him the full 15 days to make sure he's fully recovered," manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's not worth the risk to try to get him ready for the next start.

"I'd rather have him for nine completely healthy starts than maybe one or two where he's not 100 percent," Bochy said. "Then you have the risk of going ahead and starting him with the hamstring still lingering there and losing him for the rest of the way. This is the wisest move."

Leake, acquired from the Cincinnati Reds before last week's trading deadline, worked 6 2/3 innings in his first Giants outing -- a 2-1 loss to the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Six consecutive wins for Pirates when Liriano starts
Justin Hartling

The Pittsburgh Pirates have won their past six games when Francisco Liriano takes to the mound, with the June 20 being the last time they lost in the situation.

Through those six games, Liriano has pitched 38.0 innings while only given up nine earned runs versus 35 registered strikeouts.

The Bucs have also been giving Liriano some solid run support, as they have averaged 6.2 runs during Liriano's past six starts.

The Pirates will host the LA Dodgers Saturday.

Mariners winless in Montgomery's past five starts
Justin Hartling

Mike Montgomery's recent struggles on the mound have translated to losses for the Seattle Mariners, with the M's dropping his past five starts.

Montgomery has given up 17 earned runs in his past five starts, including an abysmal six earned runs in 2.2 innings on July 22.

It is not all the lefties fault as the Mariners have given Montgomery three runs of support a game.

The Mariners are currently -130 when they host the Texas Rangers Saturday.

Syndergaard still yet to pick up a win on the road
Justin Hartling

Noah Syndergaard's numbers may look good at a quick glace, but the rookie right-hander has struggled on the road. In seven road starts this season, Syndergaard is 0-4 with a 4.34 ERA whilw allowing opponents to bat .268.

Syndergaard has allowed eight more earned runs on the road (18) compared to at Citi Field (10) despite pitching fewer games on foreign mounds.

The New York Mets are 1-6 in Syndergaarrd's road starts this season.

The Mets are currently -113 when visit the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday.

'Tough Road Ahead for Jays'

The eyes of baseball fans as well as those with a penchant for sports gaming will be on the Yankee-Blue Jay series this weekend. The Yankees have surprised most with their impressive play this year as they lead the East by 4.5 games over Toronto. Yankees head into this crucial series on a slight downer winning 4 of the last 8 but remain a strong 13-6 since the break behind 6.2 runs/game. Joe Girardi's crew has been solid on home field (32-18) and have a smart 16-6 record at home vs a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, Jays head into New York on a roll winning 8 of 9 and like Yankees have won 13-of-19 since the mid-summer classic. Jays however have struggled in unfriendly territory this year (22-31) and are 11-19 away vs a team with a winning record. Adding to the problem is Toronto as a team has had its issues in the Big Apple with just 7 wins in the last 33 games at Yankee Stadium. Improving those numbers will be a challenge but not out of the question. Despite Jays being 0-4 w/Dickey in the Bronx the knuckler in a groove last three (3-0, 0.77 ERA) could notch his first 'W' in New York. As for GM-2, got to like Jays chances with Price. All he has done is guide his teams to six straight wins in Yankees backyard. Finally, can't count out Jays in the finale with Estrada. The hurler has allowed 2 or less runs in five of his last six starts.

Streaks, Tips, Notes

Baltimore Orioles at Los Angeles Angels August 8, 9:00 EST

Orioles are in a mound of trouble Saturday when they send Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound. Orioles find themselves in a combined 0-19 'Play-Against' spot. Jimenez in poor form tagged for 15 runs last 3 starts (9.64 ERA) owns a 0-5 career team start record vs Halos. Adding to those numbers, Orioles are 0-4 in Jimenez's last 4 road starts, 0-5 in the hurlers last 5 road starts facing a team with a winning record and 0-5 on the road with Jimenez following a team loss previous effort. Sportsbooks opened Halos -$1.40 to -$1.65 home chalk.

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals August 8, 7:10 EST

The Chicago White Sox have now seen the total go over in 10 OF 11 games. The White Sox 'Over' explosion is not only a product of their offense averaging 5.6 runs per game, but also pitching woes allowing 6.6 runs/game in those 11 games. 'Over-Whelming' chance the clubs top the posted 8 runs for this contest. White Sox are 5-0-1 'Over' in Samardzija's last 6 road starts. 'Over' is 6-2-1 in Guthries last 9 starts following a team win the previous effort. 'Over' is 4-2-1 last 7 meetings in Kansas City.

Five To Follow MLB Betting: Saturday, August 8, 2015 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews

Has any potential free-agent pitcher cost himself more money in 2014 than Washington's Doug Fister? First off, he missed a month or so with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm. So that's a warning sign. And when he has pitched, he hasn't been very good with a 4-7 record, 4.60 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Those latter two are easily career-worsts. In 2014, he was 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA. And now Fister's value figures to drop even more because he has been bumped to the bullpen. With Stephen Strasburg returning, the Nats opted to keep Joe Ross in the rotation over Fister, and with the way Ross is pitching that was the right move. Fister may want to take a one-year deal somewhere this offseason to prove himself worthy of one last big contract.

Rockies at Nationals (-182, 8)

Washington needs to take this opportunity against the lousy Rockies to start playing better baseball as it has won just four of its past 10 games to fall behind the Mets. Strasburg (5-5, 5.16) takes the mound, and he has been perhaps the biggest pitching disappointment in the majors (his ERA and 1.49 WHIP are the worst of his career) this season. Strasburg hasn't pitched since July 4 due to an oblique injury. In his latest minor-league rehabilitation assignment for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Strasburg struck out 11 in 5⅔ innings without allowing a walk. Colorado's Jose Reyes is 5-for-14 career off him with two doubles. Carlos Gonzalez is 2-for-8 with five strikeouts. It's lefty Yohan Flande (2-1, 3.54) for the Rockies. He pitched an inning of relief on Wednesday and got the win in the 11th. Ian Desmond is 3-for-4 with two doubles off him.

Key trends: The Rockies are 1-5 in Flande's past six vs. teams with a winning record. Washington is 1-5 in Strasburg's past six vs. teams with a losing record. The "over/under" has gone over in four of Strasburg's past five vs. Colorado.

Early lean: Nationals and over.

Blue Jays at Yankees (+120, 8.5)

This is your earliest game with a 1:05 p.m. ET first pitch and will have live betting at sportsbooks with it televised by the MLB Network. And it's the second Toronto start for David Price (10-4, 2.45). He was fantastic in his Blue Jays debut last weekend against the Twins, allowing just three hits and one run over eight innings, striking out 11. That latter number tied a franchise record in a Toronto debut. Price faced New York early in the season while with the Tigers, and it was easily his worst start of 2014 as the lefty was bombed for eight runs and 10 hits in just 2.1 innings. Jacoby Ellsbury is a career .353 hitter off him in 51 at-bats. A-Rod hits only .239 off him with 18 strikeouts in 46 at-bats. New York goes with Ivan Nova (4-3, 3.10), only his eighth start of the year off Tommy John surgery. He was strong last time out, allowing one run over six innings vs. the White Sox. Edwin Encarnacion is 8-for-22 with a homer and six RBIs off him.

Key trends: The Yankees are 6-0 in their past six at home against lefties. New York is 1-4 in its past five Nova starts vs. teams with a winning record. The under is 7-1-1 in Nova's past nine at home vs. teams with a winning record.

Early lean: Blue Jays and over.

Dodgers at Pirates (-133, 7)

While Price makes his second start since being traded to the Jays, Mat Latos (4-7, 4.29) does the same here for the Dodgers. Latos did all that his new team could have asked as he went six innings against the Angels and allowed one run and four hits in his debut. Since returning from the DL on June 13, Latos has a 2.79 ERA and is re-establishing his worth as a free-agent-to-be. He hasn't faced the Pirates this season. Andrew McCutchen is 6-for-22 with three homers off him. Pedro Alvarez is 8-for-27 with two dingers. Lefty Francisco Liriano (7-6, 2.92) goes for Pittsburgh. He went two innings Monday against the Cubs before the game was rained out. The Dodgers' Howie Kendrick is 8-for-17 with a homer off him.

Key trends: The Dodgers are 4-1 in their past five against lefties. The Pirates are 5-0 in Liriano's past five at home. The over is 6-0 in his past six at home vs. teams with a winning record.

Early lean: Pirates and under.

Red Sox at Tigers (-107, 8.5)

Even though Detroit was a seller at the trade deadline and then dumped GM Dave Dombrowski, the team is still only four games out of the second wild-card spot entering Friday and could get Miguel Cabrera back in a little over a week. So it's not over yet. By the way, the Red Sox are expected to talk to Dombrowski to take a role in their front office. Alfredo Simon (10-6, 4.55) goes here for Detroit. He was bothered by a groin injury in his last start against Baltimore but did pitch 5.2 innings and the Tigers won his third straight outing. As of now he's set to go here. Simon pitched in Boston on July 25 and allowed one run over six innings. David Ortiz is 2-for-8 with four walks off him. The Red Sox have lost six straight starts by lefty Wade Miley (8-9, 4.55). He hasn't faced Detroit this season.

Key trends: Boston is 2-5 in Miley's past seven on the road. The Tigers are 5-1 in Simon's past six vs. teams with a losing record. The under is 7-2 in Miley's past nine on five days of rest. The over is 8-2 in Simon's past 10.

Early lean: Big on over. Take Tigers I suppose.

Twins at Indians (-145, 7.5)

Minnesota was just destroyed four games in Toronto to start this week, and the Twins are dropping like a stone in the wild-card standings. That was always fool's gold. They go with Ervin Santana (2-2, 3.89) here. He has made only six starts due to that 80-game drug suspension and hasn't faced the Tribe yet. Minnesota has lost his past two, and he has allowed 11 runs over 11.2 innings. Carlos Santana is 5-for-19 with a homer off him. It's Trevor Bauer (8-8, 3.98) for the Indians. They have lost his past four despite Bauer allowing only three earned over his past two. Cleveland has scored exactly one run in each of those four starts. He lost to the Twins on May 8, allowing five runs over five innings. Torii Hunter is 6-for-12 with two homers off Bauer.

Key trends: The Indians are 2-6 in Bauer's past eight vs. the AL Central. The under is 4-0 in Santana's past four on the road. The under is 6-1 in Bauer's past seven overall.

Early lean: Indians and under.

Saturday's six-pack

-- Mets 4, Rays 3-- Wilmer Flores gets GW RBI for second Friday in row, in game where both bullpens coughed up leads late.

-- Angels 6, Orioles 4-- Mike Trout has played on his birthday four times, and hit three home runs-- he is pretty good.

-- Red Sox traded Mike Napoli to Texas, where he is expected to platoon at 1B.

-- Catcher McCann, SS Iglesias got into a brief scuffle in the Detroit dugout, after the young SS didn't dive to keep a ball from leaving the infield. Tensions are high.

-- Blue Jays 2, Bronx 1 (10)-- All three runs came on solo homers.

-- A's 3, Astros 1-- Its always Sonny in Oakland when Gray pitches.

Bonus Play Saturday

RANGERS (Perez) @ MARINERS (Montgomery) 4:10 PM

Take: RANGERS +120

The Mariners came from behind to capture the series opener with the Rangers at Safeco. But I’ll be looking for Texas to even the score tonight.

Seattle has been an underachiever all season in terms of the expectations that existed prior to the campaign. The Rangers are the opposite side of that spectrum. Not much was positive was forecast for Texas as their pitching staff got annihilated by injury issues. But the Rangers have hung tough all year and they’re still adding pieces in an effort to sneak into the playoffs. The latest arrival is Mike Napoli, who was obtained late Friday in a deal with the Red Sox involving either a player to be named later or cash.

Marin Perez, one of the Texas pitchers sidelined for most of the year, has returned to action, and he’ll be off a sensational start as he takes the mound at Safeco this evening. It’s going to be a battle of southpaws as rookie Mike Montgomery gets the call for the home team.

Perez looked really good in his most recent starts, and his first few efforts might be excusable as there had to be some ring rust off a very long layoff. Most encouraging might be the fact that Perez is throwing harder than he did in 2014 prior to getting hurt. This is a lefty with considerable upside if he stay healthy and remain in the rotation. I don’t see Perez ever becoming an ace as many thought he would be while a minor league prospect. But when he’s throwing strikes and generating ground balls, Perez can absolutely be an effective middle of the rotation guy.

I’m not as sold on Montgomery, who at one time was a huge prospect but had fallen off the chart completely prior to this year. The whole key for this lefty is going to be his control. When he’s hitting his spots, he’s not bad. But Montgomery can also get very wild at times and I suspect that will be an ongoing issue moving forward.

As for the other elements, the numbers point to the Texas side as far as offense goes, and neither team gets a high grade in the bullpen category. It’s worth noting that the Rangers have been a very good road team this year, while the Mariners have been worse at Safeco that they when wearing gray. Seattle got a nice win on Friday evening and they’re a more dangerous team now that Robinson Cano has emerged from what was a prolonged first half slump. But the Rangers have been a very resilient bunch and I like the idea of backing Perez off his very impressive last outing. Texas as a pretty decent dog price looks good to me.

(927) BALTIMORE ORIOLES VS (928) LOS ANGELES ANGELS

Take: UNDER THE TOTAL

Reason: Your Bonus Play Saturday, August 8, 2015 is in the MLB contest between the Orioles and the Angels in Anaheim. Baltimore has great pitching depth and is No. 1 in baseball in defense with the fewest errors made, while the Angels rank 8th in fewest errors. Baltimore is 23-9-1 under the total against the American League West. Ubaldo Jimenez has had a fine campaign for the Orioles with a 110-39 strikeout to walk ratio. He also has a 2.57 ERA against the Angels this season. The Under is 20-8-3 in the Orioles last 31 road games vs. a team with a winning record. LA is home and 14-5-1 under the total at home. Garrett Richards (11-8, 3.46 ERA) has excellent stuff with opponents hitting .228 off him. Richards earned the win Monday against Cleveland as he allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 7.1 innings. He struck out 11. Richards now has 102 strikeouts in 129 innings and is 7-2 at home with a 2.36 ERA. LA is 11-4-1 under the total at home against a right-handed starter and the under is 34-15-2 in the Angels last 51 home games vs. a team with a winning record. The under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Los Angeles. Play the Orioles/Angels under the total.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Jack's Free Pick Saturday: Pittsburgh Pirates -127

The Pittsburgh Pirates earned a walk-off win in the 10th inning last night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They improved to 63-44 on the season thanks to winning nine of their last 13 games overall. I look for them to continue this hot streak Saturday behind the edge that they'll have on the mound.

Francisco Liriano has clearly revived his career in Pittsburgh. He has been brilliant once again in 2015, going 7-6 with a 2.92 ERA and 1.061 WHIP with 140 strikeouts in 126 1/3 innings. Liriano owns the Dodgers, going 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA and 0.915 WHIP in three career starts against them.

Mat Latos has been pitching well lately, which is a concern, but he is still just 4-7 with a 4.29 ERA on the season. Now he faces a team he has had little success against lately. Latos has given up 11 runs, 9 earned, 6 homers and 23 base runners over 16 innings in his last three starts against the Pirates.

The Pirates are 36-16 in their last 52 home games. Pittsburgh is 39-15 in its last 54 games as a favorite. The Pirates are 7-0 in their last seven vs. NL West opponents. The Dodgers are 2-10 in their last 12 games as a road underdog. Pittsburgh is 6-0 in Liriano's last six starts, including 5-0 in his last five home starts. It is also 7-0 in his last seven starts as a favorite. Bet the Pirates Saturday.

San Francisco Giants vs Chicago Cubs

Price's Saturday Bonus Play: 1* on Chicago Cubs -135

The Key: The Chicago Cubs just beat the San Francisco Giants 7-3 yesterday to improve to 60-48 on the season. They are currently playing their best baseball of the year, having gone 8-1 in their last nine games overall. I will continue to back them Saturday at a very generous price as small home favorites over the Giants. There's no doubt that Chicago has the advantage on the mound and should be a bigger favorite. Kyle Hendricks is 5-5 with a 3.67 ERA and 1.150 WHIP in 21 starts this year, including 1-2 with a 3.23 ERA and 1.057 WHIP in 9 home starts. He'll be opposed by Matt Cain, who is 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA and 1.455 WHIP in 6 starts, including 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA and 1.714 WHIP in 4 road starts. The Giants are 11-25 in Cain's last 36 starts. San Francisco is 0-8 in Cain's last 8 starts with a total set of 6.5 or lower. The Cubs are 7-0 in Hendricks' last 7 starts as a home favorite of -110 to -150. Take Chicago.

Oluwale Bamgbose vs Uriah Hall

FREE 30 DIMES MMA FIGHT URIAH HALL -370

Uriah Hall should KO Oluwale with no problems. This fight is excellent for a Parlay of your choice. Hall is a kick-boxer, who has mastered the spin kick. Oluwale is coming into this fight with short notice, and has great power behind his punch! Oluwale likes to punch with his arms enclosed on his chest, and this will leave him open for major strikes. Oluwale is a one sided fighter, and he will struggle if he fights his game! Lay the money on Hall.
