GAME: Colorado Rockies (52-40) at New York Mets (40-47)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Colorado Rockies may have entered the All-Star break with their best first-half record in club history, but the second half of the season started the same way too many games leading up to the Midsummer Classic ended. Coming off their most lopsided defeat of the season, the Rockies attempt to put an end to their recent losing ways Saturday when they play the second of three games in New York against the Mets.

Colorado finished the first half with a 52-39 mark, although that record comes as a bit of a disappointment considering the team was 21 games over .500 as recently as June 20. The Rockies' early-season stellar pitching has fallen off dramatically, however, and the club that spent 67 days atop the National League West is in a tailspin that has seen it lose 14 of 19 after New York cruised to a 14-2 trimuph in Friday's series opener. Colorado's night nearly got a lot worse as Nolan Arenado left the game early with a hip injury after slipping on the bases, although manager Bud Black deemed the move to remove the All-Star third baseman "precautionary." The Mets backed ace Jacob deGrom with 19 hits Friday, including two from T.J. Rivera, who is batting .441 during a nine-game hitting streak.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ATT SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Colorado), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (6-10, 4.42 ERA) vs. Mets RH Seth Lugo (3-2, 4.59)

Chatwood continued to struggle with his command and dropped his third consecutive start Thursday against Cincinnati, giving up three runs on eight hits and four walks in six frames. The 27-year-old, whose road ERA (3.19) is almost twice as low as it is at home (6.14), is winless in his last five turns overall and has issued 19 of his major-league high 57 walks over his last four outings. Chatwood has thrived against the Mets in his career, going 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in five starts.

Lugo will pitch at home for only the second time in seven games (six starts) Saturday and looks to improve on a shaky outing to open to July after going 3-1 with a 3.55 ERA in June. The former 34th-round draft pick permitted six runs over five innings at Washington on July 4 before allowing a solo homer over three relief innings at St. Louis five days later. Lugo was charged with two runs despite yielding only one hit and one walk over three relief frames last July in his first career appearance against the Rockies.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes went 4-for-6 on Friday after batting .133 over his previous 11 games.

2. Rockies OF Charlie Blackmon, who leads the majors with 119 hits, is batting .405 during a nine-game hitting streak and has multiple hits in four of his last five contests.

3. New York's .656 winning percentage at home against Colorado is its best mark against any major-league team it has faced at least 15 times.

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (62-29) at Miami Marlins (41-47)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Yasiel Puig wasn't included among the eight participants in Home Run Derby or one of the six Los Angeles Dodgers to take part in the Midsummer Classic Tuesday in Miami, but his performance in the second-half opener was certainly of that caliber. Coming off his third two-homer outing of the season, the former All-Star outfielder attempts to lead the red-hot Dodgers to an eighth straight victory Saturday when they continue a three-game road set versus the Marlins.

Puig hit a tiebreaking solo shot in the fifth inning but saved his best for last Friday, crushing a two-strike offering for a go-ahead, three-run blast off closer A.J. Ramos with two outs in the ninth to help Los Angeles (62-29) pull out a 6-4 victory - the club's 27th win in the past 31 games. The triumph was the Dodgers' second ninth-inning rally in just over a week and marked their 25th comeback victory of the season. Miami entered the break winning five of its last six and had Los Angeles on the ropes in the opener, but Ramos was unable to get the final strike he needed three times in the ninth before blowing his second save in 19 chances. The Marlins are the NL's best offensive team in July by a wide margin, however, owning league-best marks in batting average (.313) and runs scored (62).

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Alex Wood (10-0, 1.67 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jose Urena (7-3, 3.54)

Wood became the first Dodgers starter to reach 10-0 since Don Newcombe in 1955 following Wednesday's victory against Arizona, yielding only three hits while fanning 10 over seven scoreless frames. The first-time All-Star has allowed one run or fewer in nine of his last 11 outings - surrendering only one homer over that time - and hasn't lost in any of his last 13 turns dating back to May 30, 2016. Marcell Ozuna is 6-for-20 and Giancarlo Stanton is 3-for-23 against Wood, who is 5-3 with 3.00 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) versus Miami.

Urena capped off a fine first half with a disappointing no-decision Sunday at San Francisco, giving up three runs on five hits - including a pair of homers - over five innings. The 25-year-old Dominican has fallen off a bit since a five-game winning streak from May 23-June 23 (3.38 ERA), going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in three outings since. Urena has been dominant in three appearances (two starts) spanning 15 1/3 innings against the Dodgers, going 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Dodgers are 53-18 since 1B-OF Cody Bellinger's promotion on April 25, and the club is 34-9 when he and fellow All-Star 3B Justin Turner are in the lineup together.

2. The Marlins' eight-game streak of collecting at least 10 hits - the second-longest in club history - came to an end Friday.

3. Puig already has more multi-homer games in 85 games this season (three) than he did in his first 435 games combined (one).

GAME: Minnesota Twins (45-44) at Houston Astros (61-29)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros have pulverized Minnesota pitching this season and look to defeat the host Twins for the fifth straight time in 2017 when they meet Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Houston collected 14 hits in Friday's series-opening 10-5 victory and has outscored the Twins 50-21 in the four victories.

The Astros got a three-run homer from Brian McCann to cap an eight-run second inning in their latest offensive onslaught while Marwin Gonzalez also went deep as part of a 3-for-5 performance. All-Star Jose Altuve recorded two hits after five consecutive three-hit efforts to help Houston (61-29) move 32 games above .500 for the first time since the final day of the 1999 season. Minnesota has dropped three consecutive games but figures to receive a boost on Saturday as Joe Mauer (back) is eligible to be activated from the disabled list. "I think that reports coming into town were that he had a good break in terms of returning to good health," Twins manager Paul Molitor told reporters. "So far, I've seen nothing that has dispelled that. I'd be surprised if he's not ready to be active (Saturday)."

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), ATT Sportsnet-Houston

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (10-6, 2.99 ERA) vs. Astros RH Joe Musgrove (4-7, 6.04)

Santana lost his last two starts despite turning in his fourth complete game of the season in one of them - a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The 34-year-old All-Star has excelled on the road, going 6-2 with a 2.19 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in eight turns. Santana is 3-0 with a 2.02 ERA in five career outings against Houston but wasn't involved in the decision on May 29, when he gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings.

Musgrove is winless over his last four starts as he remains in the rotation with Dallas Keuchel and Collin McHugh sidelined with injuries. The 24-year-old was shelled for 18 runs and 23 hits - including six homers - in 15 innings over his last three turns. Musgrove is just 2-6 with a 5.40 ERA in nine home starts this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Astros have won the last seven meetings between the clubs.

2. Minnesota CF Byron Buxton (groin) and 1B Kennys Vargas (foot) both departed Friday's contest.

3. Altuve has gone a scorching 26-for-50 over his last 12 games to raise his average to a major league-leading .351.

GAME: Seattle Mariners (44-47) at Chicago White Sox (38-50)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners are trying to work their way up the American League wild-card standings and strive to take another positive step when they visit the Chicago White Sox on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Seattle lost 10 of 14 games prior to the All-Star break but was sharp in the opener as it posted a 4-2 victory.

The Mariners are one of nine teams that are part of a cluster for the two wild-card berths but sit three games under .500 due to their streaky nature and are hoping former ace Felix Hernandez can serve up a second straight strong outing. "We've got to be consistent. That has been our issue," Seattle manager Scott Servais told reporters after Friday's opener. "Felix is out there (Saturday) and coming off a good one. We've got a good vibe in our clubhouse right now." Chicago, which sits in last place in the AL Central, is struggling with five defeats in its last six games. The club struck out 15 times in the opener, with Todd Frazier fanning three times in four hitless at-bats as he is just 2-for-19 over his last six contests.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT Northwest (Seattle), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (4-3, 4.44 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Mike Pelfrey (3-7, 4.83)

Hernandez struck out eight while allowing two hits over six scoreless innings of a 4-0 victory over Oakland on Sunday. It was the 31-year-old's best effort since returning from a calf injury as he compiled a 5.50 ERA over his three previous outings. Hernandez is 5-6 with a 3.80 ERA in 18 career starts against the White Sox and has struggled with Melky Cabrera (8-for-25) while shutting down Jose Abreu (2-for-13).

Pelfrey gets the call after the White Sox pushed Derek Holland's scheduled start back to Sunday. The 33-year-old Pelfrey is 1-3 with a 4.32 ERA in eight home appearances (seven starts) this season. He defeated the Mariners on May 20, when he allowed one run and four hits over six innings, and is 1-1 with a 3.70 ERA in four career starts against Seattle.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners 2B Robinson Cano, who is 3-for-19 lifetime versus Pelfrey, slugged a three-run homer in the series opener on his first swing since hitting the decisive blast in Tuesday's All-Star Game.

2. Chicago activated RHP Miguel Gonzalez (shoulder) and INF Tyler Saladino (back) from the 10-day disabled list, and the latter delivered an RBI double.

3. Seattle SS Jean Segura, who also scored twice, went 2-for-5 on Friday for his 28th multi-hit performance of the season.

GAME: Washington Nationals (53-36) at Cincinnati Reds (39-50)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Bryce Harper attempts to extend his hitting streak to double figures and fellow All-Star Max Scherzer takes the mound as their Washington Nationals visit the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday for the second a four-game series. Harper belted a pair of homers in the 5-0 victory over the Reds on Friday as the National League East-leading Nationals improved to 6-2 in their last eight contests.

Harper is 15-for-34 with 10 RBIs during his nine-game hitting streak and Anthony Rendon is 12-for-28 while hitting safely in eight straight contests for Washington, which owns a 27-17 record on the road. Scherzer has lost just twice in almost two months and will face Cincinnati rookie Luis Castillo, who gave up two runs over five innings in his major-league debut against the Nationals on June 23 without factoring into the decision. The Reds left eight on base in Friday’s loss as All-Stars Joey Votto and Zack Cozart went a combined 0-for-7. Adam Duvall (20 homers) had a pair of hits in the series opener and has at least two in three of his last five contests for Cincinnati, which is 23-21 at home.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Max Scherzer (10-5, 2.10 ERA) vs. Reds RH Luis Castillo (1-1, 3.13)

Scherzer earned a no-decision in his final game before the All-Star break, allowing four runs on six hits over 7 2/3 innings as the Nationals went on to beat Atlanta 5-4. The 32-year-old St. Louis native had permitted two or fewer earned runs in his previous eight starts, going 6-2 in that stretch, and leads the NL with 173 strikeouts. Votto is 4-for-8 with a homer versus Scherzer, who is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in three career starts against the Reds.

Castillo has given up two or fewer runs in three of his first four major-league starts and earned his first victory last time out with 6 2/3 scoreless innings at Arizona. The 24-year-old Dominican Republic native, who boasts 30 strikeouts and 10 walks over 23 innings, suffered his first loss while yielding four runs in his previous outing against Colorado. Brian Goodwin and Rendon hit solo homers against Castillo in the no-decision against the Nationals.

WALK-OFFS

1. Votto has belted 133 homers at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park, two behind Jay Bruce for the most at the team’s home.

2. Washington RHP Joe Ross (elbow) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday while RHPs Austin Adams and Trevor Gott were recalled.

3. The Reds have allowed an NL-most 463 runs - 31 against the Nationals while going 1-3 against them in 2017.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (29-59) at Milwaukee Brewers (51-41)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The All-Star break did nothing to slow down the Milwaukee Brewers, who hope to extend their lead in the National League Central when they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Milwaukee won six of its last seven contests before the break and picked up where it left off by posting a 9-6 triumph in Friday's series opener.

The Brewers - who own a 5 1/2-game division lead over the Chicago Cubs - rolled to victory on the strength of an eight-run second inning that was powered by Ryan Braun's sixth career grand slam, which put him ahead of Cecil Cooper, John Jaha and Jeromy Burnitz for the franchise lead. Manny Pina went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, giving him three multi-hit performances and six RBIs in seven contests this month. Philadelphia remains mired in the NL East basement as Friday's setback was its sixth loss in seven games. Maikel Franco recorded four of the Phillies' nine hits and drove in a pair of runs while Odubel Herrera, who also registered two RBIs, has hit safely in six of his last seven contests.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, NBC 10 (Philadelphia), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Aaron Nola (6-6, 3.59 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (8-4, 3.30)

Nola had his three-start winning streak snapped last time out as he suffered a hard-luck loss to San Diego on July 8 after allowing two runs and four hits in eight innings. The 24-year-old native of Louisiana has given up a total of five runs and recorded 34 strikeouts in 29 1/3 frames over his last four turns and has yielded more than three runs just once in his last seven outings. Nola was superb in his two previous career starts against Milwaukee, allowing one run and striking out 16 over 13 innings while notching a pair of victories.

Nelson has won each of his last three starts, including a road outing against the New York Yankees on Sunday in which he gave up three runs over five innings. The 28-year-old Oregonian has thrived at home of late, going 4-0 with a 0.97 ERA and 45 strikeouts in his last five turns at Miller Park. Nelson has posted a 1-1 record and 6.89 ERA in three career outings against Philadelphia.

WALK-OFFS

1. Phillies RHP Vince Velasquez (elbow) and 2B Cesar Hernandez (oblique) are expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list during the team's series in Miami, which begins Monday.

2. Milwaukee recalled OF Brett Phillips and optioned RHP Michael Blazek to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

3. Philadelphia OF Aaron Altherr went 2-for-3 on Friday but exited in the fifth inning with a mildly strained right hamstring.

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (53-37) at Atlanta Braves (43-45)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Freddie Freeman was not supposed to be back in the lineup until early August after fracturing his wrist, but the Atlanta Braves new third baseman sparked his team to a victory in the first game after the All-Star break. The Braves enter Saturday’s home contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks after Freeman made several nice plays at third base, and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Atlanta won for the 14th time in its past 22 games in Friday’s 4-3 victory.

Freeman is 12-for-30 with three homers in seven games since coming off the disabled list to help the rebuilding Braves stay on the edge of the National League wild-card race. Arizona lost for the ninth time in its past 12 games despite getting Paul Goldschmidt’s 21st homer of the season and banging out 10 hits in the series opener, its highest total in the past 12 games. Daniel Descalso snapped a 3-for-18 skid with three hits for the Diamondbacks, but Archie Bradley could not hold a one-run lead in the eighth inning by allowing two runs on four hits - after surrendering just one run across his previous 17 outings. Atlanta’s victory pulled the Braves within five games of Colorado in the loss column for the final NL wild-card spot.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, FSN South (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (6-9, 4.71 ERA) vs. Braves RH Mike Foltynewicz (7-5, 3.77)

Corbin closed the first half by going 0-3 across his final four starts, but did not pitch poorly in allowing two runs or fewer in three of those appearances. He lost to Cincinnati on Sunday despite striking out nine and allowing only two runs in six innings. The 27-year-old looks to reverse a rough showing away from home in the first half when he went 1-6 with a 7.57 ERA.

Foltynewicz showed why the Braves project him as a top-line starter, allowing only six runs across his last four starts while going 3-0 with a .217 opponents’ batting average. Six days after taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning at Oakland, Foltynewicz held Washington to two runs in six innings on July 6. The 25-year-old is 4-0 with a 2.98 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings across his past seven starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Friday’s triumph marked the 15th victory in their last at-bat for the Braves this season.

2. Atlanta RHP Jason Motte was placed on the disabled list with a lower back strain and the Braves recalled RHP Jason Hursh from Triple-A Gwinnett.

3. The Diamondbacks are 18 games over .500 at home but dropped to 20-22 on the road.

GAME: Texas Rangers (44-45) at Kansas City Royals (44-44)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 7:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Veterans Adrian Beltre and Cole Hamels look to continue hot streaks when their Texas Rangers go after a fifth victory in six games Saturday against the host Kansas City Royals. Beltre homered for the third time in four contests as the Rangers rallied for a 5-3 victory in the opener of a three-game series Friday and Hamels attempts to remain unbeaten in his eight starts of the season.

Beltre has knocked in eight runs, pushing his career total to 1,601, and walked three times in the last four contests while Mike Napoli also homered Friday to give him five blasts in his last eight outings for Texas. Hamels gave up five hits combined in two wins before the All-Star break and tries to keep the Rangers surging against the suddenly slumping Royals, who send fellow left-hander Danny Duffy to the mound. Kansas City has lost four straight games after winning six of seven to push itself back into the American League playoff chase, and coughed up an early 3-0 lead in Friday’s setback. Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer had a single in the series opener to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, in which he is 25-for-64.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Cole Hamels (4-0, 3.51 ERA) vs. Royals LH Danny Duffy (5-5, 3.76)

Hamels allowed three hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 7 2/3 scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels last Friday to win for the fourth time in five starts. That stretch began with eight innings of one-run ball in a win against Kansas City and the 33-year-old yielded six runs total in his four triumphs. Cheslor Cuthbert is 4-for-8 against Hamels, who is 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA lifetime versus the Royals.

Duffy gave up five runs on six hits while striking out nine in seven innings to take the loss last time out against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 28-year-old California native had won three of his previous four starts, permitting four runs combined in the trio of victories. Napoli is 4-for-6 with a pair of homers versus Duffy, who pitched 7 1/3 scoreless frames during a no-decision against Texas on April 20.

WALK-OFFS

1. Royals All-Star C Salvador Perez went 0-for-4 in the series opener to end his eight-game hitting streak.

2. Texas OF Nomar Mazara is 5-for-15 with a homer and four RBIs during a four-game hitting streak.

3. Kansas City’s Neftali Feliz was placed on the paternity list Friday and fellow RHP Miguel Almonte was recalled to take his place.

GAME: San Francisco Giants (35-56) at San Diego Padres (38-51)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Nearly three months after landing on the disabled list, Madison Bumgarner is set to return Saturday as the San Francisco Giants continue their three-game series against the host San Diego Padres. The Giants are moving veteran Matt Cain to the bullpen to accommodate Bumgarner, who injured his shoulder and ribs in a dirt-bike accident in April but looked sharp in a minor-league rehab start on Monday.

"His intensity, his presence, all that, trust me, I'm hoping things like this are a shot in the arm for the club," Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. "We just really had a horrible (first) half. Getting guys back hopefully will do a lot for the psyche of the club." San Francisco snapped a four-game losing streak with Friday’s 5-4 victory as Gorkys Hernandez recorded a career-high four hits and closer Sam Dyson escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning. Dyson ended the game by retiring Jabari Blash, who was recalled from Triple-A El Paso earlier in the day after Hunter Renfroe was placed on the disabled list with a strained neck. Renfroe’s injury caused manager Andy Green to move Wil Myers from the leadoff spot to No. 3 in the order, where he went 1-for-4 on Friday.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (0-3, 3.00 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jhoulys Chacin (8-7, 4.32)

Bumgarner pronounced himself ready after allowing two hits over six scoreless innings in a rehab start for Single-A San Jose on Monday. The four-time All-Star, who landed on the disabled list for the first time in his career, also serves as a threat at the plate with 14 home runs over the last four seasons. Myers is 5-for-30 with seven strikeouts against Bumgarner, who is 0-3 with a 4.73 ERA in his last four starts against the Padres but tossed a complete game in his last outing on April 8.

Chacin won his second straight outing last Saturday, holding Philadelphia to one run and three hits over 6 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old continues to exceed expectations, allowing fewer than three earned runs in seven of his last 10 starts. Buster Posey is 9-for-25 with one homer against Chacin, who has posted a 1.68 ERA in nine starts at Petco Park this season and owns a 7-6 record and 3.33 ERA in 17 career games (16 starts) versus San Francisco.

WALK-OFFS

1. Padres RHP Brandon Maurer has converted 14 straight save opportunities since May 28.

2. Giants INF Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) was activated from the disabled list prior to Friday’s game and doubled in five at-bats.

3. The Padres placed Kirby Yates on paternity leave and recalled fellow RHP Jose Valdez from Triple-A El Paso.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (47-41) at Oakland Athletics (40-50)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 9:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After coming out of the All-Star break flat, the Cleveland Indians look to avoid a third straight loss when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Cleveland was unable to expand its 2 1/2-game lead over Minnesota in the American League Central as it managed only four hits in Friday's series-opening 5-0 setback.

All-Star Jose Ramirez recorded a double for the Indians' lone extra-base hit and has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 contests. Oakland mustered just six hits itself, but it was enough for the club to post its third consecutive victory at home. Two of the Athletics' hits were solo homers by Rajai Davis and All-Star Yonder Alonso, who trails team leader Khris Davis (24) by three as he continues to shatter his previous career high of nine (2012). Oakland's strong pitching performance in the opener was a welcome change, as the club surrendered 23 runs during a four-game series at Cleveland earlier this season.

TV: 9:05 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), NBCSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Corey Kluber (7-3, 2.80 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Paul Blackburn (1-0, 0.66)

Kluber has allowed a total of three earned runs in 37 innings over his last five starts but has recorded only two victories in that span. The 31-year-old native of Alabama settled for a no-decision against Detroit on Sunday, when he gave up one run and three hits in five frames while having his streak of consecutive turns in which he reached double digits in strikeouts halted at five. Kluber improved to 2-4 in seven career appearances (six starts) versus Oakland when he gave up two hits and struck out 10 in six scoreless innings on June 1.

Blackburn has been impressive during his first stint in the major leagues, allowing two runs - one earned - and 11 hits in 13 2/3 innings over two starts. The 23-year-old Californian is coming off his first career victory, a triumph at Seattle on July 6 in which he gave up one run and eight hits over 7 2/3 frames. Blackburn failed to record a strikeout in the win and served up his first homer but issued just one walk for the second time.

WALK-OFFS

1. Ramirez is second in the AL with a .331 batting average and is three homers away from reaching 20 for the first time in his career.

2. Oakland RHP Andrew Triggs, who went 5-6 with a 4.27 ERA in 12 starts this year, underwent season-ending on his left hip Thursday.

3. Cleveland placed Lonnie Chisenhall (calf) on the disabled list and recalled fellow OF Tyler Naquin from Triple-A Columbus.

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (48-43) at Los Angeles Angels (45-48)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 15 - 9:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Mike Trout is back in the Los Angeles Angels' lineup, but his much-ballyhooed return didn't result in a victory. Trout and the Angels look to rebound from a series-opening loss when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set.

Trout went 1-for-5 in Friday's 10-inning, 2-1 loss - Los Angeles' eighth in 11 games - after missing 39 contests with a torn ligament in his left thumb. The Angels went 19-20 without the two-time American League MVP, who is 5-for-9 with two homers against scheduled Tampa Bay starter Alex Cobb. Brad Miller delivered the tiebreaking double in the 10th on Friday to give the Rays their seventh victory in 10 games. Evan Longoria halted a 12-game home-run drought with his 13th blast of the season.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Alex Cobb (7-6, 3.75 ERA) vs. Angels RH JC Ramirez (8-7, 4.46)

Cobb has delivered scoreless two-hit efforts in two of his last three starts - an eight-inning no-decision against Pittsburgh on June 27 and a 7 2/3-frame victory over Boston on July 8. The 29-year-old is 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA over his last six outings and gave up fewer than three earned runs in five of them. Cobb is 1-2 with a 6.51 ERA in five career starts against the Angels, including a loss on May 23 in which he gave up four runs and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Ramirez never had started a major-league game prior to this season, but he is the team's leader in victories after making 17 starts prior to the All-Star break. The 28-year-old defeated Texas in his last turn as he allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings. Ramirez defeated Tampa Bay on May 22, when he allowed two runs and six hits over 6 2/3 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels DH Albert Pujols, who is 6-for-9 with a homer versus Cobb, belted his 605th career blast in the opener to move within four of Sammy Sosa for eighth place on the all-time list.

2. Tampa Bay RHP Brad Boxberger hasn't allowed a hit in five appearances (five innings) since returning from October's elbow injury.

3. Los Angeles RF Kole Calhoun is 0-for-15 with six strikeouts over his last four games.

PREDICTION: Rays 3, Angels 2
