Race 9 - Post: 8:55 - 1 mile. PACE - Class Rating: 79 - Purse:$3500 - NON-WINNERS OF $2,500
CONSORTIUM*CHOICES

# 5 DOC'S DEAL 3/1
# 6 IDEAL ART 9/2
# 3 MATTADOR D 5/2

DOC'S DEAL is the strongest play in this race. Has the look of a profitable play, averaging a rather good 80 speed fig. Seems to have a very good class advantage based on the starters he has faced. Lackey has been able to get this interesting entrant to perform when sending to the post. Always worth a look. IDEAL ART - Pace makes the race is a favorite saying of this brain trust. Pace rankings here point to a bang-up play. With a 80 avg class stat, this harness racer has one of the best class edges in the grouping. MATTADOR D - Could dominate this bunch, just look at the TrackMaster Speed Rating - 78 - from his last showing. Any time a horse is entered with this driver/conditioner pair there's a very nice likelihood for some nice winning scores.

Race 8 - Post: 9:50 - 1 mile. TROT - Class Rating: 79 - Purse:$18000 - NW 3
CONSORTIUM*CHOICES

# 6 AMOUREUSE HANOVER 10/1
# 5 MAJOR MUSCLE 5/1
# 8 ABSOLUT SEELSTER 9/2

AMOUREUSE HANOVER most likely should be supported as the entrant to beat for this one and the big morning line could mean a big score. Top notch ROI from the Woodbine 6 post, watch out for this live one. Could very well be the most competitive in the group of animals here, showing formidable ratings of late. Average speed is a solid 82. Good for a win wager just off the outstanding prior class markings. Have to like this horse. MAJOR MUSCLE - A nice win clip has been earned by nice horses coming from the 5 hole. Seems to have a great class advantage based on the entrants she has faced. ABSOLUT SEELSTER - Has one of the strongest win stats in the group and may be able to add to those stats right here. Baillargeon has been able to get this contender to perform when sending to the post. Always worth a look.

# 7 LOOKING AT THELAKE 7/2

# 2 AWESOME REKHA 8/1

# 1 LANTIZ 8/1

LOOKING AT THELAKE looks formidable to best this field. Could provide positive returns based on formidable recent Equibase Speed Figs with an average of 77. Has solid early lick and ought to fare soundly against this group. The speed figure of 90 from her last affair looks solid in here. AWESOME REKHA - Hard to pass on this filly with Lopez in the saddle. Has earned formidable Equibase speed figs in turf route races in the past. LANTIZ - Is tough not to examine based on Equibase speed figs which have been solid - 74 avg - of late. Has been racing solidly and has among the most favorable speed in the race for today's distance.

RECOMMENDED*CHOICES

# 5 REINING PESOS 6/1

# 1 GO FOR A STROLL 5/2

# 4 HUTE 5/1

I have to support REINING PESOS here. Exhibits the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 67 speed figure which is one of the most respectable in this group. Will probably come out strong - I have liked the way this gelding has moved sharply to the front end recently. Could best this group based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 79 - of his last outing. GO FOR A STROLL - He should be carefully examined given the respectable speed figures. Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Fincher have shown very solid results lately. HUTE - Looks respectable to be on the lead at the first call. Is worth looking at and may be a bet - strong speed figures (58 average) at today's distance and surface as of late.

Penn National - Race #3 - Post: 6:54pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 76

Rating:

#2 WALKING ON WATER (ML=3/1)
#7 HELLOITSME (ML=5/2)
#5 MONEYBAGS (ML=8/1)

WALKING ON WATER - Hasn't run at today's trip recently but does have a rating earned last time he tried this distance good enough to win. Based on this gelding's recent efforts, he should profit from today's shorter trip. This thoroughbred is a hot commodity. Claimed in his last two races. With a big class drop in class figure points from his March 24th race at Santa Anita. Based on that element, I will give this horse the advantage. HELLOITSME - Although I sometimes have doubts about a horse who failed backers as the public choice in his last race, this gelding got a solid speed fig and fits well here. Have to give this gelding a chance. Ran a strong effort in the last race within the last month or so. MONEYBAGS - A horse coming back this promptly after a good race is a good sign. Strong return on investment for this rider and trainer twosome. I think this gelding is ready to run a good one. He's had enough outings since the layoff and should be fit.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 OPEN BAR (ML=7/2), #1 RISKY PERSUASION (ML=4/1), #3 NALU (ML=6/1),

OPEN BAR - This questionable contender hasn't been coming close at the finish lately. RISKY PERSUASION - It seems like too much zip is on board in this affair. This speedball will in all probability get cooked on the top end. NALU - Don't feel this pony will make a winning move in today's event. That last speed fig was disappointing when compared with today's class figure.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - HELLOITSME - This gelding's superior last speed number of 81, against these horses, makes him the overwhelming choice.

Charles Town - Race #8 - Post: 10:19pm - Maiden Claiming - 4.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $14,500 Class Rating: 57

Rating:

#5 ONEBOURBONONEBEER (ML=8/1)
#3 LIL MARSHMALLOW (ML=5/1)
#6 DEAR OLD DAD (ML=3/1)
#4 ICE COLD TAP (ML=2/1)
#2B SPEAK TO HIM (ML=9/2)

ONEBOURBONONEBEER - This is a classic 'Lone Front-runner' scenario. If Batista gets him out of the gate cleanly it'll likely be smooth sailing. This gelding likes to be near the lead. Today's clash is a shorter trip and should promote his likelihood of winning. Last time, was entered in a race at Laurel in a race with a class rating of 62. Dropping significantly in Equibase class figure this time out puts him in a solid position today. LIL MARSHMALLOW - Ran a lackluster race at Charles Town last race out. Racing under better track conditions puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list. Looking at today's class figure, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier group than in the last race at Charles Town. Collins, the trainer, shows intent by adding Lasix in today's race. A positive sign. DEAR OLD DAD - Trainer Rideoutt moves this thoroughbred down in the class scale to face much lower class horses. Look for a strong performance with this class drop. ICE COLD TAP - Faced tougher last race out at Charles Town. Based on Equibase class figures, this is a weaker bunch, so I will put this one on my list of choice plays. Entered a Maiden Special race at Charles Town last time out and raced on the mud finishing fourth. Will most certainly do better right here in this race. This animal is number one in earnings per start (EPS). He looks solid in today's clash. SPEAK TO HIM - The last time I saw this horse was at Charles Town in a race with an Equibase class figure of 70. Dropping drastically in class rating today puts him in a solid position in this field. Gelding's last workout should have him fit for today's contest. Ran a lackluster race at Charles Town last out. Racing on a fast track puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 WALK TO FREEDOM (ML=9/2),

WALK TO FREEDOM - This gelding didn't do too much last time out.

RACE #8 -AQUEDUCT - 4:20 PM EASTERN POST

The Withers Stakes

8½ FURLONGS WINTERIZED INNER DIRT TRACK THREE YEARS OLD GRADE III STAKES $250,000.00 PURSE

#4 EL AREEB
#9 SQUARE SHOOTER
#6 FILLET OF SOLE
#10 J BOYS ECHO

For your information folks ... The Withers is named for David Dunham Withers (1821-1892), an important owner/breeder who won this race in 1890 with his colt, King Eric. The inaugural run of the Withers Stakes occurred in 1874 at Jerome Park Racetrack. It was raced there through 1889 after which it was hosted by the Morris Park Racecourse from 1890 through 1904, then Jamaica Racetrack in 1956, and at Belmont Park from 1957 through 1959 and 1984 through 1996. The Withers was not run in 1911 and 1912 due to a New York State legislated ban on all forms of wagering on horses. It was also not run in 2011, but returned to the New York racing calendar on February 4, 2012. Here in the 141st running of The Withers," #4 EL AREEB has hit the board in each of his last four starts, including back-to-back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his last three starts. Jockey Trevor McCarthy has been in his irons on 5 previous occasions, hitting the board in four, including those 3 "Circle Trips," and is back this afternoon here in Ozone Park for his 6th ride, gunning for a "Grand Slam Win!" #9 SQUARE SHOOTER, a 12-1 BOMB, is undefeated in a two race career, winning both in "POWER RUN FASHION."

EARLY PICK 4: 1,4,6,8 / 5,8,9 / 3,6 / 1,5,9 = $72

LATE PICK 4: 1,5,9 / 2,3,5 / 5,7,8 / 5 = $27

MEET STATS: 100 - 395 / $548.40 BEST BETS: 16 - 36 / $59.70

SPOT PLAYS: 15 - 35 / $59.40

Best Bet: FREE WILLY HANOVER (2nd)

Spot Play: WAY OUTTA HERE (6th)

Race 1

(4) SIR GALAHAD is unbeaten with Roy driving and he took a new life’s mark last week. He could be good for the three-peat here in his razor-sharp current condition. (1) P L JACKSON could trip-out and complete the exacta behind the choice again. (7) JIMMY BE GOOD paced to a new life’s mark in his debut for the Auciello barn last week, but he did ride perfect cover to that win; your call. (5) ARTFUL BLISS can be forwardly placed early and stick around for a small share.

Race 2

(5) FREE WILLY HANOVER paid instant dividends for his new connections on Monday night and he gets wheeled right back into action here looking for more; top call. (2) P L JILL was sharp in victory in her return race and looms as the one to chase down here. (3) MIAMI MAGIC can trip-out here off an inside following journey and re-emerge late for a piece. (9) WITHAHEARTTOMATCH was a sharp winner for Henry and he sticks here. Keep her in mind for exotics.

Race 3

(4) AMERICAN VIRGIN waited until the stretch to make his move last week but he flew home to get there on time. He should be tough again and can be placed closer to the front in the bigger field. (5) JINS SHARK – the only horse to beat Betting Line last year – looks well prepped for his return; using. (7) NICKLE BAG is as tough as they come and hard to leave out. (1) MACH CODE is in top shape now and another upset isn’t impossible with the right trip.

Race 4

(8) THREEDEE DELIGHT A gets some class relief here and perhaps she will get asked to start her move earlier against this easier group. (1) DRIVINGTHEDRAGON A looked beat in deep stretch last week but she dug in to get the job done. She is capable of stepping up and winning. (4) KAYS SHADOW is in the best form of her life and is another that can move up and contend. (6) MUCH ADOO should be more of a speed threat starting from the middle of the gate here; consider for multi-race bets.

Race 5

(5) SPORTSMANSHIP gets McNair here, which means he should get a more aggressive steer. He can beat these if he is in range at the 3/4 pole. (9) PRESCOTTS HOPE takes a big class plunge here, which means he is likely heading for the front at the start and he could bottom-out this field if he clears quickly. (8) AUDREYS DREAM closes quickly every week and he isn’t impossible here, but a smaller share is likely. (6) NIRVANA SEELSTER will be an early threat at a minimum.

Race 6

(3) WAY OUTTA HERE circled the field without even breaking a sweat last week. Don’t let the time fool you, he can trot much faster if needed; call to repeat. (6) FINISH LINE ships in for Allard in tremendous form and picks up aggressive young driver in Roy. He’s the one to catch. (2) BUZZ is in great form and he should be a threat from close range again. (4) STORMONT KATE blew an inferior group away as expected last week. These are tougher, but she’s not out of this.

Race 7

(9) MACH PRIDE takes a massive class plunge here and Drury will no doubt be blasting off the gate. He should prove tough to beat. (5) IMSPORTY gets Zeron back and most of these are easier than what he has been facing; exacta factor. (1) AVATARTIST has hit his best form and he could trip out here behind the choice; using. (3) DIALAMARA can close late for a share.

Race 8

(5) MAJOR MUSCLE showed marked improvement with Henry driving last week and he returns here. Post relief adds to the appeal; top call. (2) GROUPIE DOLL moves up a class but she is still the obvious one to catch. (3) AIR GLIDER gets Roy back and they took a share as a team three starts back. (8) ABSOLUT SEELSTER should land near the front early and hang around for a slice.

Race 9

(5) DOMETHATAGAIN was hard used early last time and he paid the price. He should get an easier trip here, which could produce a win. (7) ERLE DALE N gets McNair back here and should be near the front early, which is when he does his best work. (8) VELOCITY DRIVEN has been powering home each week and he should be in the picture. (4) HIGHLANDBEACHYCOVE motored home to win vs. easier but these look much tougher. A smaller share is likely for him.

Race 10

(5) BRINGHOME THEBLUE drops and likely pops here with an aggressive steer surely in the cards. (8) RESISTANCE FUTILE is in prime shape now and he can threaten if provided with a good trip. (2) J EAGLE FEATHER is worth a look debuting for Cullen. (3) REEL figures to pass horses late and take a share. (1) FLAHERTY should ride the pylons and fill one of the High-5 slots.

Meadowlands: Saturday 2/4 Analysis
By Derick Giwner

DRF

Race 1 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 3 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 100 - 343 / $521.60 (-$164.40)

BEST BETS: 13 - 28 / $52.60 (-$3.40)

Best Bet: HIGHALATOR (2nd)

Spot Play: TRUE BLUE HALL (11th)

Race 1

(3) JJ SHARK got away slowly again from the cones and was in a bad spot while finishing up willingly in his last start. He gets a new Miller in the bike and perhaps we’ll see a more aggressive attempt. (4) INTHEBLINKOFANEYE has been racing better of late and seems ready to pick up a win soon. (2) LAST DRAGON couldn’t handle the uncovered trip last Friday; dangerous with smooth sailing. (5) OHOKA TEXAS N has dealt with a string of outside posts and finally drops a notch on the condition ladder.

Race 2

(4) HIGHALATOR, a homebred out of near-millionaire Higher And Higher, has been given plenty of time to get his act together and appears to have some ability. Against a suspect bunch, I’m all in and hoping for even money or better. (7) TIMCAT HANOVER sat a nice trip and was a solid winner in his 2017 debut. (6) DJNOTHERNSTAR closed like a freight train last week; needs to stay closer to the field.

Race 3

(5) MR BLISSFULL wasn’t bad from the back of the pack last time. He draws much better this week and should be forwardly placed. (6) PERSEVERANT continues to be a popular commodity at the claiming box and has been racing very well; using. (4) JETSKI LOUIE doesn’t get over the top very often but could surprise with a clean trip.

Race 4

(1) MATTAMERICAN drops down in class, draws inside and finds a field without much early speed. I’m expecting Bongiorno to take charge and go for the gold. (7) REUBEN BROGDEN N got caught in a quick mile versus Vegas Vacation in his first start in two months. If Callahan can fire him up early and get him in play, he should have a big shot. (6) JACKSRLUCKYTOO seems to be the sharpest of the closers in the event that the pace is fastest than it projects on paper.

Race 5

This race is wide open with nine plausible win candidates. I’ll try (5) ROCK STAR, who finished well last week from an impossible spot and draws better this time. (3) SOMETHING FOR DOC was facing significantly better when last seen here and does add Brett Miller to the team. (6) SHOW ME UP closed well last time. He needs a strong effort to make it into the final or consolation of this mini-series next week. (4) TWINCREEKS JESSE needs the right setup but can certainly beat this group if things work his way. (8) THAT’S MY OPINION has burned enough of my money lately, though I wouldn’t be shocked if he turned things around.

Race 6

(3) SI SEMALU gets the class drop I’ve been waiting for and adding Callahan in the bike is also a nice plus; all systems go. (1) MISSILE J paid immediate dividends for new connections last week. He has plenty of ability and could potentially go on a serious run. (4) ROCKIN ROBERT has been bringing a good effort to the track week after week; hard to toss.

Race 7

(5) DOCTOR BUTCH didn’t leave as fast as I thought and wound up coming away fourth in a fast opening half last week. I’ll roll the dice one more time with him. (6) ALEXIE MATTOSIE is plenty sharp and an obvious danger. (7) ONTARIO SUCCESS was hung to dry a week ago. With a smoother trip he’ll be right there at the wire. (3) ELRAMA N gets away from claimers and draws well. He has a shot in here but I’m inclined to wait one more week for the top spot. (9) CALVIN B is in fine form and fast enough to menace if the trip works out.

Race 8

(5) DR C’S Z TAM was stuck behind a gapper and broke when trying to squeeze through along the cones. Eleven-year-old was in fine form prior and faces a field that appears loaded with early speed players to set him up from behind. (4) CITY PIE is another confirmed closer that should benefit from an expected quick pace. (8) JACKSON BRADY was dead game on the engine last Saturday. Perhaps his presence in post eight will convince the leavers in posts 9 & 10 to take back early, but I doubt it. (1) SO TAKE THAT has a major chance if sitting behind live cover in striking position.

Race 9

(4) STRATOCASTER reunites with Marohn in a field without a standout player; taking a shot. (2) JOE LARRY N CURLY raced evenly in his first start in a very long time while facing much, much better foes. He can certainly win here. (3) SASSY HANOVER raced very well two starts back but stopped badly last time. Those types of anomaly efforts usually mean the horse choked down or tied up; let’s toss the line. (1) UNIX HANOVER moves into a new barn and should be competitive.

Race 10

(1) TOTALLY DREAMY drops for the fourth straight week and has reached the basement condition. Gelding was clearly improved last week in his debut for the Levine barn and can have a say in a mostly formless group. (5) GIDDY UP DELIGHT comes off a win and will take most of the tote action, but I’m not running to the windows. (9) NURSERY ED has been stuck with outside posts on the half-mile track at Yonkers. He draws poorly again but could have more in the tank than we’ve seen. (8) THE FIRE WITHIN couldn’t rally from far back last time; closer tonight?

Race 11

(5) TRUE BLUE HALL had a hint of late pace last Saturday and could be in line for a big effort on the class drop tonight. (3) FRANCOHARRINGTON N has been stuck in outside posts at Yonkers lately. Perhaps we’ll see more on the switch to the big track. (1) ROGER MACH EM has inside speed and should be heard from during the mile. (7) MY SPIRIT SOARS couldn’t handle bumping up two levels a week ago; back down a notch.

Race 12

(1) GRAVELSINMYTRAVELS blew away a similar field last week and looks solid as the clear chalk. (5) LET’S FOAL AROUND got a start under his belt after a mini vacation and now Brett Miller drives. (2) PRINCE PALANI hasn’t found his best stride yet after taking time off but will get there in the coming weeks. (7) TAURANGA comes off an open length win and should still offer value.

Yonkers: Saturday 2/4 Analysis
By Matt Rose

DRF

MEET STATS: 29 - 104 / $156.60

BEST BETS: 6 - 10 / $21.50

Best Bet: MAKE SOME LUCK (9th)

Spot Play: NEWCASTLE (11tH)

Race 1

(1) REASONABLE FORCE rode a live cover trip to pounce on weaker rivals last week and Bartlett sticks with him while drawing best; capable of repeating with a smooth trip. (4) THEARTOFCONFUSION just missed at this level two back with Zeron driving but he probably won't offer much value. (3) BULLET BOB continues to come up empty in the late stages and is tough to endorse on top.

Race 2

(1) ZOOMING was going nowhere last week from the eight hole in a 12 horse field; this is obviously a better spot. (3) LUCKY COLBY qualified pretty well chasing pacers and he may be ready to go off the two month break. (2) CLEMENTINE DREAM gets some needed class relief and draws well enough.

Race 3

(4) MOONWRITER flashed good speed from the eight hole last week to give himself a shot and he seems capable of moving forward off that effort. (1) FIVE CARD DRAW N draws best and is a player but he's not the most prolific winner. (6) LONE SURVIVOR gets a free ride at this level off an odds-on score.

Race 4

(5) BIG N BAD raced decently for a share in his debut for a new barn; veteran clearly needed that race and should show more tonight. (1) BETTOR ROCK ON N faltered on the front end last out after being tested hard; he could be in line for a better stalking trip. (2) MIKE'S POWERHOUSE was Bartlett's choice over a Bamond trainee and a Milici trainee and he does draw well but faces much tougher.

Race 5

(6) VEGAS VACATION has looked very sharp in his last two working his way into top form off the long, long break. Former Jug winner should handle these. (5) STATESMAN N raced very well in defeat for his new barn. (3) ESCAPE THE NEWS was asked but never fired last week; he's better than that.

Race 6

(6) ALLERAGE STAR raced very well to be second best in last week's added-distance event and the Julie Miller trainee should be on the move early. (5) TWEET ME has been sneaky-good in recent efforts and the mare looks like a player from this spot. (3) DOT DOT DOT DASH is always capable with a perfect trip; consider for a share if she can shake free late.

Race 7

(5) ROLAND N ROCK has developed a very successful off-the-pace routine and he closes well every week; from this slightly improved post he may be able to reach tonight. (2) LONG LIVE ROCK raced very well to be second best last week, his first start in six months, and he actually gets assigned a better post tonight. (4) LUCAN HANOVER is in solid form and he has tactical options from this spot.

Race 8

(7) BLOOD BROTHER finished with plenty but never had a realistic chance of winning that race last week; he can sweep by tonight if slightly closer. (3) E Z NOAH sometimes throws in clunkers but he's going well now. (6) LIMELIGHT BEACH should be firing from the gate.

Race 9

(1) MAKE SOME LUCK was a strong and well-meant winner last week and now gets to drop in class; tough to look past him from this spot. (3) CLASS SIX gets needed post relief and will be much more involved. (4) IRA CHIEF has been sharp and could be leaving the gate looking for a stalking trip.

Race 10

(2) GIBSON BLUE CHIP dug in gamely to prevail last out and he draws well again while facing no standouts. (4) ORILLIA JOE was razor-sharp off the bench and is capable of repeating. (6) OH JOHNY BE GOOD N was much better last week and could be a closing threat.

Race 11

(3) NEWCASTLE raced pretty well off the barn change and he can move forward off that effort. (6) OPULENT YANKEE has been sharp in his last two at The Meadowlands, both at juicy prices; speed threat. (5) CRAZY ABOUT PAT comes in off two good qualifiers but may need a live start.

Race 12

(2) SAPPHIRE CITY is a perfect two-for-two since the Burke purchase and I don't see anything getting in his way tonight. (1) CASIMIR JITTERBUG steps up off a nice win and should be no worse than the pocket from this spot. (3) IN THE HUDDLE gets some class relief and will be close up.

Saturday’s six-pack

— Lefty reliever Jerry Blevins got $6M from the Mets; if you have a son and don’t make him a lefty, you’re a damn fool.

— Celtics 113, Lakers 107- Both teams started the night with 3,252 wins.

— Central Michigan 86, Western Michigan 82— Chippewas play up/down, wild games. They finished this game on a 21-5 run- they trailed by 18 at one point.

— Rhode Island 70, Davidson 59— Big road win for Danny Hurley’s squad.

— Jeff Bagwell is in the HOF but was 0-24 against a reliever named Scott Sullivan, who now sells real estate in Alabama. Sullivan was 40-28 with nine saves in 528 big league games in his 10-year major league career.

— Dodgers signed former Giants reliever Sergio Romo, which will seem weird.
