Rutgers +8 $700 College Football Game/Year Upon learning about the murder of UConn's Jasper Howard I immediately considered the emotional ramifications that this event would have on his teammates. I was unsure how they would react the first week immediatly following, they could either come out with a "win 1 for the gipper" mentality or fall flat on their faces. They proceeded to go to West Virginia and played their asses off for 4 quarters against a more talented Mountaineer team, only to lose to a last minute TD after taking the lead themselves just moments before. The look on UConn head coach Randy Edsall's face told the story as he said how much "he really wanted this one for his kids", and he proceeded to go on describing how devestated he was that they had just lost this game. That game was important to the the UConn players obviously, and even in a normal competitive setting those types of close losses are emotionally hard to come back from. In this unique situation, it will be doubly hard to recover from. Let's also track the UConn team's schedule this week. Instead of a normal Monday when they would view film and maybe work out, the entire team flew down to Miami for their friend and teammates funeral. Besides the 1 day less preperation for this week's game, they simply WILL NOT have anything left in the proverbial "emotional tank" to play this week's game. We have a template for this as recently as 2006 when Rice had a team member killed. They responded the first week after the death with a herculean effort and pulled off a major upset winning SU as 11 point underdogs 48-14! They proceeded to follow that emotional win with a 38-24 loss to a very bad Tulane team the following week. It is simply impossible to maintain that emotional lift that they got the first week winning 1 for their fallen teammate. After the adrenaline wore off and they came back to reality, they fell flat on their faces the following week as favorites. Rutgers enters this game with only 3 wins towards being bowl eligible and will be very motivated to get a win here. Their upcoming games against South Florida and West Virginia also makes this game that much more important as they are not likely to win either of those. Greg Schiano has been very successful in the role of underdog, 10-3 ATS his last 13 tries. UConn has covered every game this year, so they are on every bettors radar as a "play on" team, and the linesmakers have adjusted. Rutgers defense has been performing well, allowing no more than 15 points to any team in their last 6 games besides Pitt's 24. Finally, I have this very succesful system that points me to the dog...Play ON a team with 6+ days rest off a non-Saturday road favorite SU win (not an ATS win of more than 17 points) vs. an opponent off a road underdog SU loss. These teams are 20-0 ATS since November 1993. $WINNER$ (+700)
Cincinnati -14.5 $300 I don't care that this game will be very one-sidedly bet, this team is making us money and if they play well can name their score against Syracuse $WINNER$ (+300)
North Carolina St. +9.5 $300 $WINNER$ (+300)
