The last three meetings between Army and Navy have had 51, 38, and 49 total points scored.

UNLV Runnin’ Rebels at Nevada Wolf Pack (-6.5)

Nevada returns home off back-to-back road games with its last being across the country in Buffalo. The Wolf Pack won that game 24-21 as 3-point underdogs, so they come into this game with good momentum. UNLV also won its last game, scoring 80 points on FCS Idaho State. But the Rebels figure to regress off such a performance, especially since they’ve been a downtrodden program over the last few years.

Back in June, the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas opened Nevada as 14-point favorites over UNLV in this game. And a couple of max bets moved that line up to -16. But now, the line is less than a touchdown after opening -10 at the Wynn. The line is most likely to go up closer to kick off, so laying 6.5 points now makes a lot of sense.

Arizona State (+13.5) at UCLA Bruins

UCLA won 56-30 in Arizona last Saturday night. The Bruins played a perfect game, especially freshman quarterback Josh Rosen, who threw for 289 yards with two touchdowns. In its previous game, UCLA squeaked by BYU 24-23 after scoring a late touchdown. The Bruins are likely to regress in this game off those performances, especially since they waxed Arizona State 62-27 on the road last season.

Arizona State comes in off a 42-14 home blowout loss against USC, and because of the opposite results of last week, public bettors will be all over UCLA in this game. The line on this game will likely hold steady during the week, but I’d be surprised if the spread doesn’t go up on Saturday. Wait until then, and grab Arizona State at +14 or more.

Air Force Falcons vs. Navy Midshipman (51)

Air Force and Navy are very familiar with the way each other play. Both teams run a variation of the triple-option offense and when these Service Academies face each other, the game often results in a low-scoring defense scrum. The last three meetings have had 51, 38, and 49 points scored.

The total on this game opened at 57.5 and was quickly bet down several points. Most shops have the game listed at 51 now, but there a couple of places that still have a 51.5 available. There’s no reason to expect anything different than what we’ve seen in year’s past between Air Force and Navy, so grab the highest total you can and play this game Under.

Ducks WR Marshall's season could be over

Oregon wide receiver Byron Marshall's season is likely over.

According to multiple reports, one of the Ducks' top offensive weapons suffered a leg injury in a loss to Utah on Saturday and had surgery on Tuesday.

Marshall is the only active player with 1,000-yard rushing and 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Last season, he led the Ducks with 74 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns.

This season, he had compiled nine catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He also is the primary return specialist for the Ducks.

Oregon will try to bounce back from the Utah loss this week when the Ducks play Colorado.

Total Notes - Week 5


We're starting the second month of the college football season and with that being said, the total market is becoming very difficult to gauge. The oddsmakers have a better feel for these teams and both the sharps and syndicates have to put in the extra work to find value.

I hope everybody followed the Penn State-San Diego State OVER last week as it connected by halftime. Remember, just because a number moves doesn't mean the move is always right.

Here's what we got for Week 5.

1) Correct sharp movement: Vanderbilt/Middle Tennessee State UNDER

Bettors who got the opener on the Vanderbilt/MTSU game have a great UNDER wager as they caught the peak of 51.5. Vanderbilt is limited offensively but has shown so far this season that is does have some SEC caliber athletes on the defensive side of the ball. MTSU returns 8 defensive starters and only allowed 37 points at Alabama and 27 points at Illinois and their defense played better than both those numbers would indicate.

MTSU should have a home crowd that's excited to get a visit from an SEC school and this game will have a mini-rivalry feel to it. The Commodores may be even better defensively than we know as they've already faced Western Kentucky, Georgia, and Ole Miss (three very talented offenses) and allowed an average of 380 yds and 24 PPG.

Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason has shown he's more than willing to play very conservatively on offense and slow the game down, with this being one of the few remaining "winnable" games on the Commodores schedule, expect him to to take this game seriously and play to his team's strengths. This game has been bet down but with some 49's still out there, this game still holds some value on the UNDER.

2) Incorrect sharp movement: Temple/Charlotte UNDER

Some heavy movement on this game as it's one of the biggest total moves so far this week. Bettors have bet this game down from 48 to it's current position at 43. It's a little difficult to gauge where all of the UNDER money is coming from as a combination of events have occurred to help drive this number down.

Some bettors are likely playing the weather angle as severe weather is expected for the North Carolina area over the next few days and there has been rain in Charlotte already. In addition, you have the pitiful 49ers offense squaring off versus a talented and experienced Temple defense.

Charlotte's offense has been one of the worst in the FBS and they will likely struggle to score in this game but they are at home and did muster an average of 10.5 PPG vs the solid defenses of MTSU and FAU. Temple's offense is undervalued and should have a chance to explode vs a weak Charlotte defense. Charlotte has faced perhaps the weakest slate of opposing offenses in the country so far and surrendered 73 points to the one decent offense they did face.

Temple has had extra time to prepare for this contest and with only Tulane on deck should use this opportunity to gain some confidence and work on their run/pass balance. Talented Owl RB Jahad Thomas should have a field day here and I expect the Temple defense to score. UNDER bettors likely banking of the 49ers getting shutout but my numbers project them to muster 7-9 points and that should be enough to push this game OVER the lowered total. Sharps have reasons for this wager, I just don't think they'll get the results.

3) Public movement: East Carolina-SMU OVER

Easy for the public to back the OVER in this contest, especially with SMU allowing 48 points and over 700 yds of offense to FCS James Madison last week. However, what some don't realize is that JMU is a legit Top 15 FCS squad and is guided by a QB who transferred from Georgia Tech. In addition, the Mustang defense has faced a brutal schedule of opposing offenses having already faced both Baylor and TCU.

East Carolina continues to play well as head coach Ruffin McNeil continues to find offense despite graduation losses. The Pirates have played well offensively despite facing the quality defenses of both Florida and Virginia Tech, they should find the sledding much easier vs the SMU stop-unit. New SMU head coach Chad Morris is an offensive coordinator at heart and he likes to employ an up-tempo, multiple formation offense. This game should see plenty of snaps and I agree with the movement upward.

I made the number for this game 70 and that's where I think you'll see this close. At 67, I'd still play this game OVER and would likely be unwilling to fade the movement at any number lower than 73.

4) Market manipulation: Colorado State/Utah State OVER

Someone desperately trying to push this number to 51 and if it gets there you'll see immediate and swift buyback on the UNDER. Utah State is a dead UNDER squad and enter allowing just 14 PPG but producing under 300 yds of offense per game.

Colorado State has already played a similarly styled Minnesota team and that game was very slowly paced and lower scoring. I think the Rams will struggle against a quality Aggies stop unit and Utah State hasn't proven they can move the ball on anyone. This is a false move upward and I made the number 46 so anything above 47 offers value on the UNDER.

Everton looks to end drought versus rivals Liverpool

Some big rivalries highlight an action-packed weekend in the Barclays Premier League, including a new chapter in the storied Merseyside Derby.

Chelsea v Southampton

Chelsea have suffered yet another testing week and tomorrow they'll welcome a Southampton side who are four places above them in the BPL table.

A run of three-straight victories for Jose Mourinho's men came to an end with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United and a 2-1 defeat to Porto in the UEFA Champions League over the last week.

As a result, the pressure is back on Chelsea as they face a Saints side who are on a high after winning their last two matches, scoring nine goals in the process.

Ronald Koeman's men are on a poor run of away form, with no league win on the road in 10 matches - a run only equaled by Newcastle.

This game is hard to call, and we expect it to be a cagey, hard-fought encounter tomorrow.

Diego Costa is suspended, and Thibaut Courtois (knee) is still a long-term absentee while Jordy Clasie could return to the squad from Southampton, who are without Steven Caulker, Fraser Forster and Florin Gardos.

Match Facts

- Jose Mourinho has never lost a Barclays Premier League match to Southampton (W4 D2).

- Southampton have won one of their last 13 trips to Stamford Bridge, a 4-2 victory in January 2002 (D4 L8).

Everton v Liverpool

Under pressure Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers knows that a win against bitter city rivals Everton will do a lot to silence his doubters this Sunday.

Liverpool have struggled early in 2015-16 and that was highlighted in midweek when they could only manage a disappointing 1-1 draw with Swiss side Sion in the Europa League. A 3-2 victory at home to Aston Villa last Saturday ended a run of four Barclays Premier League matches without a win, and key players were rested in midweek ahead of this game.

Everton are on a good run of form with three wins from their last four matches in all competitions. Everton sit in fifth place, four places above Liverpool. However, the Toffees have not tasted Merseyside derby success over Liverpool since October 2010.

Everton put in another good showing this week when they came from two goals down to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2 at The Hawthorns last Monday. However, boss Roberto Martinez is having to contend with a lengthy injury list.

While Seamus Coleman and John Stones could return from hamstring and knee injuries respectively, Muhamed Besic (hamstring), Tom Cleverley (ankle/foot), Leighton Baines (ankle/foot), Tony Hibbert (knee) and Steven Pienaar (hamstring) are all out.

For Liverpool, Dejan Lovren (ankle), Roberto Firmino (back) and captain Jordan Henderson (foot) are all sidelined.

Arsenal versus United was always seen as a title-defining fixture around the turn of the century, as Arsene Wenger's side dueled for supremacy with Alex Ferguson's United.

Both sides have struggled to challenge in the last couple of seasons, but Sunday's contest at the Emirates Stadium once again has a top-of-the-table edge to it. With Arsenal sitting just three points behind league leaders United, this is a crucial game even at this stage of the season.

Arsenal's impressive 5-2 victory at the King Power Stadium last Saturday was followed up by a 3-2 home defeat to Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League. David Ospina was controversially selected in goal during the week but Petr Cech is set to return this weekend.

United will travel to north London on the back of four-consecutive wins in all competitions. Last Saturday's 3-0 victory over Sunderland moving them top of the BPL table for the first time in over two years. A 2-1 win over Wolfsburg in mid-week in the Champions League means the Red Devils will go to Arsenal in excellent form.

Laurent Koscielny (hamstring), Mikel Arteta (knock) and Mathieu Flamini (hamstring) are definitely out, but Wenger expects Francis Coquelin to be fit.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 15

The CFL is closing in on the start of this year’s playoffs heading into Week 15 of the regular season as teams continue to jockey for position in their quest to win this season’s Grey Cup title. Defending champion Calgary strengthened its grip on the West Division title with last Friday’s 25-23 squeaker over Winnipeg, but it came nowhere close to covering against the spread as an 8 ½-point road favorite.

Saturday’s CFL slate featured a double-header of action starting with Edmonton getting by British Columbia 29-23, but the Eskimos could not cover as 12-point favorites at home. The upsets continued with Toronto carving-out a key 35-26 victory against Ottawa as a 2 ½-point road underdog. Week 14 closed things out with Saskatchewan doubling-up its straight-up wins for the year with a 33-21 victory against Montreal as a 2 ½-point home underdog.

Game Overview

Edmonton remains one game off the pace in the West following its win against the Lions, which was its third in a row SU. The Eskimos continue to boast the stingiest defense in the CFL in points allowed (18.3) and their offense is putting up an average of 25.1 points a game. Wide Receiver Derel Walker pulled-in eight receptions for 121 yards and a score in last week’s win.

The Blue Bombers have posted just one SU victory in their last seven games, but they have covered ATS in two of their last three outings. The total has gone OVER in three of their last four games while giving-up an average of 26 points even with a 22-7 Week 12 win against Saskatchewan included in this same stretch. Winnipeg is 3-6-2 ATS in its last 11 home games.

The Lions have just one SU win in their last six games, but they are 3-1 ATS in their last four contests. Jonathon Jennings did a good job throwing the ball in the loss to Edmonton last week with 281 yards passing and two touchdown throws, but BC’s ground game went nowhere with just 37 total rushing yards on 17 carries.

Another way to determine class is earnings per start. This thoroughbred has the highest in the field. I think she'll be close at the finish line.

(5) VICK VALOR three-year-old made a break leaving hard for the lead last out. If the provisional driver can keep the gelding flat he probably wins. (6) PILLAGE AND BURN looks to be faster than the field and was the top driver's choice. (7) PARTY FALLS lightly raced 2-year-old faces older but owns a nice late kick. (9) FOX VALLEY CHINO pacer just needs to time his move right for a chance at a piece.

In a wide open and evenly matched race, (8) JAYPORT PRINCESS is capable of much better and should improve third start back off the layoff. (6) GRC TRAVEL KING has a history of popping a good mile at a price; threat. (5) CLEVER UPSTART has yet to win in twenty-one starts on the year but did race well last out against similar.

(6) FLYHAWK EL DURADO has come back to his best form in his past two and should be right there vs. these. (7) ADVERSITY closed powerfully last time and has done well on this track in the past. (3) WILD AND CRAZY GUY won from the 10-hole last time in a similar class and is another to consider for pick 5 tickets.

Race 2

(1) CARACCI HANOVER drops back into a class where he fits well and should get an aggressive steer here; top call. (4) DADDY WARBUCKS closed strongly last time and likes Woodbine; upset possibility. (3) I SCOOT SAM is another that did very well at the last Woodbine meet and is rounding back to his best form. He should share despite the class rise.

Race 3

(4) DAMFOOLRMILLIONAIR is in top form, his good tactical speed is a plus here and the step up isn't that great; on top. (6) WHISKEY TAX wasn't beaten far by the best on the continent in the Maple Leaf Trot but may be overbet here based on that factor. He's a contender but beware taking too short of a price. (3) BAGS FOR ALL took a new life's mark off the claim four back and hasn't won since. She's certainly capable and was a frequent winner at the last Woodbine meet.

Race 4

(4) BROOKDALE SHADOW takes a big class drop here and will no doubt try to boss this field. She could do just that, too. (3) HOPE FOR PADDY was just short last time when dropped to this class and likes the long Woodbine stretch. (2) ST LADS PENNY LANE should get a good following trip here and is another to consider for early pick 4 tickets.

Race 5

(5) EXEMPLAR meets a fairly weak field for this class and should get an aggressive drive from Filion. (3) ROCKYS FIRST set a strong pace and kept going last time for a sharp win; don't dismiss lightly. (7) JUSTALITTLEFASTER has been closing quickly every start and will appreciate the long stretch here.

Race 6

(3) FOREVER JUST was visibly flying late last week and just ran out of racetrack. He's a top contender here and could be a square price. (8) VEGAS ROCKS has been incredibly hot since being claimed by Waxman and is the one to beat again. (6) CHEYENNE REIDER loves Woodbine and races best when starting from outer posts. Keep him on your pick 4 tickets.

Race 7

(8) REAL ROCKER was a sharp winner in this same class Tuesday night at Mohawk and will take some beating here. (2) WARAWEE PHOENIX was a good 2nd to a strong winner who was heavily bet that night; using. (1) REGAL BABE ships in and drops in class and could make some noise here.

Race 8

(7) OLE JACK MAGIC has been closing rapidly recently and may be a good price here despite the class drop due to last week's 7th-place finish. He's certainly capable vs. this group. (9) MYSTERY BET is in the best form of his life and needs only an honest pace to chase to be right there on the wire. (1) CHARLIE IS A JOKER isn't a win machine, but has won off similar class drops here and must be considered.

Race 9

(1) ELLIS PARK has been in great from since Waples took over the driving duties and the move inside helps here; slight nod. (4) NIRVANA SEELSTER was part of some rapid fractions last week and stuck around for a share. He has done well here in the past. (8) ARTHUR BLUE CHIP was too far back last time and missed the board despite motoring home in 26 2/5. Don't count him out, even from out there.

Race 10

(1) THUNDER SEELSTER returns from a break and meets a field he should handle if ready; top call. (3) LIVE AND LEARN has been racing well and never gets bet. He could add some value to exotics plays. (7) COMPANY MAN was a strong winner a class lower and can contend here, too.

Race 11

(1) BIG CITY JEWEL ships in after winning an Open at Vernon and gets to face non-winners of two based on earnings. He should smoke these. (2) WIN ONE SOON raced decently in the Grassroots Final and should get a good piece of this. (7) NEWBIE has been sharp for several weeks and can race effectively on the lead or closing from the back; exacta factor. (5) SHOE SHINE won easily when left unchallenged last time. A repeat of that trip is highly unlikely. (8) A MARCOU STORY rarely misses a check and is a good one for the bottom of exotic wagers.

(1) INNOCENT VICTIM was used early in last, kept up a quick pace and gave way; clearly the Allard trainee is capable of rebounding. (5) CYCLONE KIWI N shows two super qualifiers with an ugly break in between; I need to see one first.

Race 2

(1) HI HO STEVERINO isn't a prolific winner but he's always competitive when drawn inside; Bartlett can work out a live stalking trip and edge by late. (6) CHEYENNE SEEBER dropped to this level last week and was a well-driven winner; he gets a free ride at this class. (4) FRIDAYNIGHTFLIGHT is up in class again off three solid efforts since joining the Allard barn.

Race 3

(4) NATIONAL DEBT gets needed class and post relief plus Dube returns to the bike; Alagna trainee can get the jump on his competition from this spot. (5) CALVIN B is having a career year for Rohr, gets Bartlett back and looks like the chief threat. (2) URBANA BAYAMA has had no real chance in three starts since being claimed by Blumenfeld but he rallied well in all those tries; he can be considered with the inside post.

Race 4

(7) E Z NOAH was a strong front-end winner here last month and he will he hard to catch if he makes the lead. (1) TWIN B HOLLISTER finished with pace last week and he'll be protecting position from his inside assignment. (6) CAPTIVE AUDIENCE has serious talent and has been a fringe stakes player this season.

Race 5

(2) CITY HALL, when in the mood, can pace up a storm. Gelding can power by late with the right setup. (5) BURKENTINE HANOVER returns from Saratoga, where he's been a major player in all his recent effort versus Open types; Rohr trainee should fit well at this level. (4) TINK AND TIGER is up in class again but has been very sharp.

Race 6

(6) LUMINOSITY took a week off after two straight decisive victories and the fact that he drew inside nemesis (7) MELADY'S MONET makes him the top selection in this solid field. The latter beat a weaker group last week and Bartlett will have the classy trotter in play early again. (5) NOT AFRAID was fumbly behind the gate last out losing all chance but his best effort makes him a serious player.

Race 7

(5) AMERICAN VENTURE responded nicely to Brennan's handling last week and closed crisply; gelding has a nice brush in him and should be close enough to strike. (1) TYE SEELSTER gets lucky with another inside post draw and he's the one to beat but the missed time is a concern. (2) REUBEN BROGDEN N put in a good effort two back and should be close up from this spot.

Race 8

(5) GREAT VINTAGE is back at Yonkers where he always gives 100%; from this spot Dube will have the Takter trainee in play early and likely controlling the action. (2) SAPPHIRE CITY got parked the mile last week and understandably retreated; from this inside spot he may be able to step around the rail horse and sit a good trip. (6) DYNAMIC YOUTH has to be put in play early but will there be a spot waiting or can he clear the lead? Tough to say.

Race 9

(2) CRAZY ABOUT PAT is crazy sharp right now and from this inside spot he should take another. (1) LUCKY COLBY was Stratton's choice and he's been reasonably sharp as well. (5) CASHONTHEROCS takes a needed drop from the Open ranks where he did have a win three back.

Race 10

(4) FORTY FIVE RED lands in a spot where he should be firing from the gate. (7) LYONSSOMEWHERE is another (who along with Ideal Cowboy and Limelight Beach) should be forwardly placed and he's inside those aforementioned rivals.

Race 11

(3) B YOYO gets some needed class and post relief; price should be decent with some legit rivals surrounding him. (1) GLOIRE DREAM put in three rock-solid efforts in his local appearances. (4) RED HOT HERBIE was a well-rated winner versus lesser last out.

Race 12

(6) SOMEWHERE FANCY gave a good accounting of himself at this level last week and while it will be tougher tonight from the outside post the Toscano trainee deserves serious consideration. (1) TWIN B IMPRESSIVE draws best and is a proven commodity at this level. (7) LUCAN HANOVER dropped and popped just five days ago; obviously he's got back class.

As the Kansas City Royals continue their quest for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, they can end the Minnesota Twins' postseason hopes in the process.

With a fifth consecutive victory at Target Field on Saturday, the Royals would eliminate the Twins from playoff contention.

Ben Zobrist delivered a tiebreaking double to highlight a two-run eighth inning that led to Kansas City's 3-1 victory Friday. Minnesota (83-77) has dropped two of three and is one loss or a Houston victory away from missing the playoffs.

'You can feel it,' said Twins manager Paul Molitor, whose team has totaled four runs during its four-game home skid to Kansas City. 'It's deflating for sure.

"We still have to try to win (Saturday) and hopefully have to cause the other teams to win as well."

Minnesota is two games behind the Astros, who own the AL's second-wild card spot, and one back of the Los Angeles Angels.

"I don't like it, but all we can do is keep battling and see what happens," Torii Hunter told MLB's official website.

With a third straight win, the Royals (93-67) kept pace with Toronto in the race for the best record in the AL. The Blue Jays, however, hold the tiebreaker between the teams.

"It's a fun time of the year and fun to be a part of it," Royals pitcher Chris Young said.

Kansas City looks to keep the good times coming Saturday when it faces Tommy Milone (9-5, 4.04 ERA), who has been dealing with a shoulder issue but will pitch on regular rest for the first time since Sept. 17. The left-hander allowed two runs in 5 2-3 innings of a 4-2 victory at Cleveland on Monday.

That solid outing came after he yielded five runs and walked three in 1 1-3 innings of an 11-8 home defeat to the Angels in his previous start.

"I think it shows how much trust they have, especially after my last start here," Milone said. "I felt pretty good. It's a good sign, obviously."

He's looked good while going 2-0 with a 3.75 ERA in four starts against the Royals this season. Milone allowed two runs in seven innings of a 6-2 win at Kansas City on Sept. 7.

Yordano Ventura (12-8, 4.20) was the loser in that contest, giving up four runs, eight hits and five walks in 5 1-3 innings. That began a four-start stretch where the right-hander went 2-1 with a 5.32 ERA before yielding two hits over seven innings in a 1-0, 11-inning defeat to the Chicago Cubs on Monday.

"I have felt good all year," Ventura said. "I've learned a lot. I've had some bad breaks, but I've learned from them."

Eduardo Escobar had one of Minnesota's six hits in the series opener, and is 5 for 7 with a double against Ventura.

Lorenzo Cain, 4 for 9 with a home run against Milone this season, could be back in the lineup after sitting Friday with a bruised knee suffered a night earlier.

Teammates Salvador Perez (thumb) and Kendrys Morales (quad) also could be available Saturday.

"They are all very trivial (injuries) and day to day," Kansas City manager Ned Yost said. "Just overly cautious."
