RACE #8 - BELMONT PARK - 4:13 PM EASTERN POST
The Champagne Stakes
8.0 FURLONGS DIRT GRADE I TWO YEAR OLDS STAKES $500,000.00 PURSE

#8 AVEENUU MALCAINU
#11 HAZIT
#3 STRONGER
#9 HONORABLE TREASURE

Here in the 146th running of The Champagne, #8 AVEENU MALCAINU, a 6-1 shot, is undefeated in a two race career to date, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in his last start. Jockey Luis Saez and Trainer Jeremiah Englehart send him to the post for this Grade I test ... they've hit the board with 53% of their entries saddled as a team to date, with their 25% win rate producing a +90% return on investment in the process. #11 HAZIT, a 4-1 shot, comes off a maiden-breaking, "POWER RUN WIN" in his "first asking."

Hawthorne - Race #2 - Post: 3:38pm - Maiden Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,000 Class Rating: 53

Rating: 4

#10 CALLMEWHATEVER (ML=4/1)
#6 J P'S GIA (ML=9/2)

CALLMEWHATEVER - The return on investment when Perez and Rodriguez get together is terrific. Rodriguez drops this one in today for only her 2nd contest. Should do better than last out. I always like to see a filly getting Lasix for the 2nd time. This one fits the bill. J P'S GIA - The Sep 2nd affair at Arlington was at a class level of (64). Dropping down in class ranks a significant amount, so she should be in a good position. This mount could be tough in this race, especially since Lopez rode last time around the track and now should be plenty familiar with this one. It is my opinion that fillys run better the 2nd time they get Lasix. Boyce puts this filly on it for the second time today, so give this one a look.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 TAKE WING (ML=5/1), #7 WELL MAID (ML=6/1), #12 BEARING SECRETS (ML=6/1),

TAKE WING - This runner didn't do too much last time out finishing tenth. Can't expect any improvement in today's race. WELL MAID - Doesn't look to be in a comfortable spot this time. BEARING SECRETS - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance affairs lately. Not probable to see her doing it this time around either. Earned a mediocre speed figure last race out in a $25,000 Maiden Claiming race on September 22nd. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that rating.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #10 CALLMEWHATEVER on the win end if we get at least 7/5 odds

#5 MIDNIGHT NOTES (ML=7/2)
#14 OUR EMERALD FOREST (IRE) (ML=6/1)

MIDNIGHT NOTES - Using this jockey/conditioner combination is a good choice. OUR EMERALD FOREST (IRE) - Ran a lackluster race at Parx Racing last time out. Racing on a fast track puts this gelding at the top of my contenders list. When a horse drops at least 5 lbs (like this one is), you must take notice. It may not seem like much, but this should help.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 MONTCLAIR (IRE) (ML=9/5), #7 MONTAUK MAN (ML=6/1), #2 CHEDDAR CHUB (ML=8/1),

MONTCLAIR (IRE) - This runner hasn't been close at the finish line recently. MONTAUK MAN - This gelding notched a speed figure in his last race which probably isn't good enough in today's event. CHEDDAR CHUB - This equine hasn't been close in either of his last couple of outings.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #5 MIDNIGHT NOTES on the win end if we get at least 7/5 odds

Race 9 - Maiden Special Weight - 8.0f on the Turf. Purse: $10500 Class Rating: 61

FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. THREE YEAR OLDS, 117 LBS.; OLDER, 119 LBS.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 3 STORMY SPECIAL 5/2

# 9 BILLIARDS 9/2

# 10 HOLDMYGOLDBACK 6/1

I lean toward STORMY SPECIAL here. Looks strong against this group and will probably be one of the early speedsters. Seems to have a very good class edge based on the latest company kept. With Valdezjiminez getting the mount, watch out for this equine. BILLIARDS - Ought to be given a shot based on the quite good Equibase speed fig garnered in the last contest. Strong jockey with handler numbers make this horse a strong pick. HOLDMYGOLDBACK - Guerra has solid numbers that point to this gelding to be a strong contender.

Race 6 - Allowance - 8.5f on the Turf. Purse: $36300 Class Rating: 101

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES OTHER THAN MAIDEN, CLAIMING, STARTER, TRIAL OR STATE BRED ALLOWANCE OR WHICH HAVE NEVER WON THREE RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 120 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 7 PATERNAL PRIDE 1/1

# 4 HEAT FLASH 3/1

# 11 WEST ROAD 30/1

I back PATERNAL PRIDE here. Is difficult not to examine based on Equibase speed figs which have been competitive - 92 avg - of late. Could best this group based on the speed figure - 105 - of his last race. He has decent class ratings, averaging 100, and has to be given consideration in this race. HEAT FLASH - Has to be given consideration against this group displaying quite good figs as of late and an average Equibase Speed Figure of 89 under similar conditions. Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this pony look formidable in this contest.
