My free winner is on the Detroit Tigers against the Minnesota Twins, who are slowly slipping into an abyss and can't seem to do anything right.

The Twins got a combined three-hitter last night, from Ervin Santana and Oliver Drake, and still lost 5-3. Over the team's last 10 games though, its pitching staff has a 4.34 ERA, and the offense has been outscored by 12 runs.

I don't care if you list pitchers, it's irrelevant to me, but I would much rather invest in Francisco Liriano than Kyle Gibson. The Tigers have allowed just 2.8 runs per game in Liriano's starts on the season, so the fact is they need to provide him with run support.

Let's play the home underdog, as Detroit carries momentum over from last night's win and gets it done in this early evening affair in Motown.

My free winner for tonight is on the Angels over the Oakland Athletics, who are in Anaheim for a weekend set. And do not list pitchers in this game. I don't know what the line will be, as there is not one as of 5:20 am pacific, but if we need to play this on the run line (if the regular line is -160 or higher), don't be concerned with who is on the hill.

What I do know is the A's just closed out a series in Los Angeles with a win over the Dodgers, and while they're sitting in second place in the American League West, they failed in the series lid-lifter because this rivalry is always intense. Add in the fact the Halos are playing well, and this series could be trouble for the A's.

I know Mike Trout is questionable, but there is more to the Halos than the slugger. This is an offense that has belted 160 home runs this season - tied for third most in the bigs. And at home, their 88 homers rank second in the league.

As a staff on the road, Oakland has an ERA of 4.28, and has allowed 75 home runs - fifth most in the bigs. That doesn't bode well when you have guys like Andrelton Simmons leading the Angels with 122 hits on the season, while batting .308 on the year. Also, there's Kole Calhoun, who has four home runs and nine RBIs while slugging .684 over his past 10 games for the Halos.

Let's take the Halos at home tonight.

Detroit snapped their 6-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Twins on Friday. Minnesota has now lost 3 straight and it appears they are throwing in the white towel on catching the Indians in the Central or making it as a Wild Card. Minnesota just traded closer Fernando Rodney. I think we could see the Twins struggle to get up for games going forward, which is why I love the Tigers as a home dog in this one.

Detroit will send out veteran Francisco Liriano, who despite not pitching deep into games, has kept his team in it. Liriano has allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in 11 of his last 14 starts. KC will counter with Kyle Gibson, who has an ugly 5.52 ERA and 1.484 WHIP in 17 career starts against the Tigers. Minnesota is also just 1-4 in Gibson's last 5 road starts, 1-7 in his last 8 following a team loss and 2-9 in his last 11 when facing a team that scored 5 or more runs in their previous game. Take Detroit!

The Diamondbacks lost 3-0 last night so many will be looking to back them tonight off of a shutout loss. However, the fact is that this Arizona team just can't hit on the road. They've proven that all season long and their .230 batting average away from home is tied with Colorado for the WORST mark in the National League. As for the Reds, their .337 on base percentage in home games has them ranked 4TH in the National League. Robbie Ray gets the start for the Dbacks here and he allowed just 2 earned runs in his most recent start but gave up 7 hits and 4 walks in just 5 and 1/3 innings in that outing. In other words, the southpaw was very fortunate. Matt Harvey gets the start for Cincinnati here and he is off of a bad outing but that was on the road. In his last start at Great American Ball Park he allowed 2 earned runs as he walked only 2 batters and held the Phillies to just 2 hits in 5 innings. Prior to the loss in his most recent outing, the Reds were 5-2 in Harvey's last 7 starts. The Diamondbacks are a "perfect" 0-5 in Ray's last 5 starts! Lester is coming off a couple of poor outings, but there's no reason to think the veteran southpaw won't bounce back. Washington will send out Tanner Roark and they are a mere 1-5 in his last 6 road starts and 1-5 in his last 6 vs a team with a winning record.
