I'll bet the Steelers and Raiders beat teams who had players roiding up also, so its a wash.

Are you saying the Giants teams were not very good?

I'm saying the 18-0 year the Patriots were dominantly better. Giants were hot, played a great game, and got lucky. Any given Sunday, thats why they play the games, etc. That Patriots team I consider the best ever. But it will never get credit having lost the super bowl

If they went 18-0 and won the Superbowl they would have been considered the best in history....but they didnt. They lost to a Giants team that was not even good enough to win there division. MY first thought is they might have been the best in history but I would have to look at some other teams before making that decision. The Bears were very dominate the year they won and only lost one game on Monday night. Losing to a weaker opponent only adds to the reasoning that San Fran was better

The 49ers lost to the inferior Giants too; at home, on the verge of a 3rd straight SB, to a geriatric RB and a QB named "Hoss". They backed that loss up with another loss to the Giants to open the next season. Them west coast britches got stains, too.

That "inferior" Giants team was 13-3 that year and went on to win the Super Bowl. Led by LT, it was one of the best defenses that year in the history of the game. 2 of their 3 losses were to the 49ers and Buffalo, who they then beat in NFC championship and the Super Bowl respectively in the rematches. Wouldn't call that SF loss a "stain".

The rules NE has had to navigate with salary cap and Free Agency make NE easily the most amazing dynasty of the modern era, meaning since the AFL was formed.
They have been fortunate to win a few of their Super Bowls due to incredibly poor Coaching by their opponent, none bigger than this past one, and I have to think Belichick laughs himself silly at the stupidity of some of his opponents, but they win, and they count.

Yeah. I peek in every now and then, and just crack up at the pathetic, alt.right, stormfront circle jerk. It used to be 90% insane, now except for an occasional sane post by you, or mango, it's totally gonzo. And they can't stop talking about Vit, who they are still obsessed with, and even Aki, Fichy, and me occasionally, even though we're all long gone. Those remaining regulars are Truly sick, distorted, vile, wretched souls. They deserve each other. Any Ky Derby Futures Longshots to watch out for?

I know what you mean. It's a comedy show down there. Of course, lately there are more political threads up here than in the poly forum, so Vit is enjoying himself lol. As for the Derby, the horse I really like right now is running this Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs. McCraken, makes his 3 year old debut against a good field in the Sam F Davis Stakes. He is a closer with the perfect running style for the Derby and he was 3/3 as a 2 year old with all 3 wins over the Churchill Downs track. Won't be a long shot but he is the horse I like right now. Also like Gunnevera who ran second behind Irish War Cry in the Holy Bull Saturday at Gulfstream. He will love the 1 1/4 mile distance. Irish War Cry was making just his 3rd career start but looked very impressive in the win. Still early and lots of prep races to go so a lot can happen between now and first Saturday in May. I'll probably give more insight down the road over at the other site so watch for my input there. Be good.

NE, SF & Pitt all had great runs, trying to argue who's the greatest of the greatest tends to be pointless.

There are significant differences in how each team won, and for that I would argue Bill Belichick is the GOAT, but not that NE's run is better than Pitt's or SF's (although it is longer in duration)

Pitt won in the era of no free agency, they won 4 titles in 6 years, and I have to believe they did it with the same nucleus of players. I know the stars remained the same.

SF won no salary caps, they spent tons of money, they bought star players and they skirted salary cap rules when they were implemented

NE and Belichick won in the era of free agency and adhering to salary cap rules, they let highly sought after players walk and rarely signed high profile free agents. Belichick keeps winning with an ever changing roster, although one very important piece to the puzzle has remained constant. Just this year people were questioning his judgement when he traded arguably their best defender mid season for a 2nd round draft pick.

So while all three franchises have had great runs, Belichick as done it for an extended period of time under the more difficult roster situation (sans Brady of course)

Also should throw Cowboys in the mix, although they haven't been to the SB in 20 years

No doubt a great defense for NY that year, but it carried an offense using it's backup qb. San Francisco was the headliner. Joe was MVP. Rice was at the top. They were two-time defending champions. They had the #2 defense. The game was at home. They were winning and in New York territory with 3 minutes. Montana gets knocked out of the game; he sits, which foreshadows the rest of his 49ers career (30 minutes). The very next play Roger Craig looses the ball on his own. NY got its 5th fg. Then that opening game of 1991, NY takes down the 18 game road win streak. That's a "mud puddle stomped in your ass" stained for the premier franchise. It's easy to forget the finer details and just look at a record. It was almost 30 years ago.

We very well could be talking about Julio Jones great catch had Atlanta finished that drive even in fg. But they aren't the luckiest franchise ever; that's New York.

Since people are bringing up free agency, and it pains me greatly to admitted it, (biggest 'skins fan) the greatest team ever if there wasn't free agency hands down is the Cowboys. And it's not even close! The Dallas super bowl teams lost dt tony casillas, s thomas everett, g john gesek, g kevin gogan, dt jimmie jones pk eddie murray lb ken norton, wr alvin harper, de jim jeffcoat, c mark stepnoski, s james washington, all starters and continued on winning. Further loses cb larry brown lb dixon edwards, lb robert jones, s brock marion, dt russell maryland, ot ron stone, was a tad bit too much to overcome! Nine pro bowlers gone! The 94 49er's, the team that prevented dallas from winning four in a row (thank god) used free agency to buy a defence to stop big D. They signed de/lb tim harris, lb rickey jackson, de charles mann, lb gary plummer, lb ken norton, s tim mcdonald, and cb deion sanders, all pro bowlers, plummer an alternate, to beat Dallas! So there you have it, Dallas if it weren't for free agency and the cap easily wins four in a row. And if they kept a professional coach like Johnson they would have had a drive for five!! Remember the Cowboys owned the Packers (96 champs) in the regular season and playoffs! And most important of all, they didn't cheat!!
