New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton tested positive for the coronavirus, he told ESPN on Thursday.
Payton, 56, is the first person in the NFL world known to test positive for the virus.
Payton said he didn't feel well this past Sunday, took the test Monday, and received the results Thursday afternoon. Payton is resting at home, fatigued, but said he is part of the 20 percent of the cases that have no fever and no cough. But now he will self-quarantine in his home through the weekend, and he said he is upbeat and optimistic about a full recovery.
Payton said he came forward with the diagnosis because he wants all people to heed the warnings of government officials, stay inside and behave responsibly."This is not just about social distancing," Payton told ESPN. "It's shutting down here for a week to two weeks. If people understand the curve, and understand the bump, we can easily work together as a country to reduce it. Take a minute to understand what the experts are saying. It's not complicated to do what they're asking of us. Just that type of small investment by every one of us will have a dramatic impact.
"I was fortunate to be in the minority, without the serious side effects that some have. I'm lucky. Younger people feel like they can handle this, but they can be a carrier to someone who can't handle it. So we all need to do our part. It's important for every one of us to do our part."
The virus has spread throughout the world, and Louisiana has been one of the most infected states.

Nah

He just broke out in hives and got extremely sick to his stomach once he realized he no longer had the best QB in the NFC South.

No longer the oldest either. You converting to a Bucs fan or staying loyal to the Pats?

lol Pats but I actually am pretty bearish on them next year as of right now. We'll see who their QB is but I do think a lot of Brady's struggles last year had to do with the fact that team just sucked at WR/OL, had no TE. Just lost some key defender guys....Also think the other AFC east teams are looking better than they've been right now. I think BB is the best coach of all time but I don't think any coach is immune to the "Jims and Joes > Xs and Os" factor. The history of football is filled with legendary coaches that regressed when their talent got worse. Knoll, Jimmy Johnson, Gibbs, Seifert, Walsh, Shanahan to name a few(this was more at Stanford than NFL)

And I am a little higher on the Buccs than most. Just having a QB not throwing 1 INT per half should be pretty nice. They have a lot of skill position talent and Arians is a pretty coach. Maybe that is bias towards Brady but those are my initial thoughts

Will be interesting to see what win totals open at.

Don't be surprised if Brady falls on his ass without Belichick.

Well, he couldn't do much last year with Belichick so if he falls on his ass, can't really say that is the reason why.

It'll just be because he is too far removed from his prime at this point.

11-5 with Matt Cassels as his QB, so why not?

Against an easy schedule with pretty much the same core on offense that went 16-0 the year before with a tough schedule. Look it up, they lost to most of the good teams they played that year.

And then you throw in Belichick's record w/ Cleveland and his record w/ Bledsoe at QB (5-13) and it leads me to this post I had typed out...

I've always said the best QB is better than the best coach. Coaching is more important in football than the other sports but you need talent.

What did Shanahan win w/o Elway? What did Seifert do in Carlina? What did Walsh do at Stanford? Jimmy Johnson at Miami? Knoll wasn't so great in the 80's after all the HOFers retired, Gibbs comeback in '04 with the Skins isn't being written about anytime soon. Parcells didn't win a playoff game after '98 despite the fact he didn't retire until 2006....NFL Coaching is the ultimate in mean regression exercises.

And I think it'll be harder for Belichick to run his notoriously tight ship when he doesn't have Brady buying in. In a lot of ways, I think he has no idea what he is in for. That always helped Popovich as well, no one on the Spurs could deviate from the core goal much when Tim Duncan was all in.

And another thing, these teams have been waiting to kick BB's ass for a long time.

I liked Winston there, he kept the "overs" alive every game. When Favre left Green Bay, I kept rooting for Green Bay and I had no problem rooting for him with the Jets. Very hard to root for him when he went to Minnesota, couldn't do it.

You do realize Brady was already on the decline during his last Super Bowl run. Pats won largely because of their stellar defense and Belichick keeping great QBs like Rivers, Mahomes and Goff off-balance and off the field.

At a geriatric 43 years old, the GOAT is clearly on the decline:

Bills mafia is going to lose it if Pats win that division again! LOL

Pretty much everyone agrees he sucked in 2019, who said he didn't? I'm saying a big reason he sucked is because their offense sucked.

As far as '18, he wasn'te elite that year but had a lot to do with the offense around him decline as well. Gronk was on fumes, Edelman old and off ACL, Gordon kicked off team again.

And yet w/ all that he absolutely shredded LAC in rd 1 of the playoffs and put 37 on the Chiefs in the AFCCG. People just remember the superbowl when the defense dominated but he was clearly vintage Brady for large portions of those playoff games. He's such a legend that the Charger/Chiefs games that year were taken for granted.

We'll see...Maybe BB doesn't miss a beat, but I doubt it for reasons I said in post #13

Also, fwiw defenses with a strong pass D tend to regress quicker than strong run D. It is just harder to consistently stay elite on the back end and that is how NE D is built. And that schedule isn't gonna be a joke first 8 weeks like it was this year.

Fwiw when I say Edelman old and off ACL, I just mean he wasn't as good in the regular season that year because he was working back from ACL injury. As the year went on he began crushing, culminating in a playoff run for the ages.

Point remains though, you're a QB and score 41 and 37 in two games to get a team to the superbowl and you were clearly a huge part of their superbowl that year. Just taken for granted because of who he is.

Tom Brady in Tampa will resemble Johnny Unitas in SD. It is over and he will be the last to know it.
