Well underway in Champions League now, feel I have a good read for some of these teams/what results teams will be looking for. Let's make some $$$!

I'm doing some write ups today because I have time to kill right not. I'll try and post write ups consistently moving forward, but they may be simpler and less extensive in the future.

Tuesday, October 23:

Chelsea/Shakhtar draw +220

Both teams are undefeated headed into this game. Shakhtar picked up a good result in Italy in the last round of games and they will carry that momentum into this clash with Group E leaders Chelsea. The Blues will have to be wary to concede as their defense has been less than impressive, often relying on Cech to bail them out. Shakhtar are on a great run of form, coming into the game having not lost in twenty straight matches. They also have twelve straight wins at home. Chelsea will have a battle on their hands in Ukraine and will be cautious moving forward on the attack as to not be caught on the counter. Shakhtar have quality players all over the pitch, ones who will make the Blues pay for any mental lapses. This will be a hard fought point for each team and both will have to be satisfied with obtaining a point, remaining in a tie for first in the group. Also, Chelsea at +170 is the books way of getting action on the ever popular Blues. This has draw written all over it.

Valencia +110

The hosts BATE will be riding high after a monumental win vs. Bayern last match day, but they must be careful not to be over confident against a Spanish side who are quickly rounding into form. BATE played a smart game vs. Bayern attacking a banged up back line on the counter, but that same style will not work against Valencia. Bayern were unlucky not to be up 1-0 or 2-0 against BATE a few weeks back as both Muller and Madzukic hit the woodwork in the first ten minutes. BATE were able to find an early goal which forced Bayern's hand, prompting them to attack in numbers. This left them vulnerable at the back and they paid dearly. Valencia on the other hand play a compact, possession game. They are very dangerous moving forward while maintaining their width on the pitch. Soldado and Jonas look incredibly dangerous up front and will prove to be too much to handle for BATE. Three points are crucial for Valencia as a draw would leave them in third place in the group after three matches. BATE will prove to be tough opposition, but Valencia has too much at stake. They're quality will show in a 1-0 or 2-1 win.

Benfica/Spartak over 2.5 -115

All or nothing for Spartak. Win or they're out. That means attack attack attack for the Russian side who have been scoring goals at will in European competition as of late. The problem? They've been conceding at an even higher rate. Spartak are in poor form which means Benfica will like their chances of stealing three points from the Russians. I expect a wide open, free flowing game with plenty of chances. So long as those chances don't go to waste, this game should fly over.

i miss over winners by HT....this board started off strong with the over hitting....keep it up..0-0 1-1 in the chelski match works for me....and 1-2 Celtic...haha....2-1 3-1 barca maybe.

ps Hart says the new Canadian manager doesn't have to be Canadian...haha....we wouldn't be in this mess if Canada took his own advice years ago. I think we have a decent youth system and squad and certainly with the USA in decline it might be realistic to think a manager could get a top 3-4 spot for the WC so coaching Canada could be attractive....no real media attention, barely any fans and players refuse to join might keep someone away though. Have you heard any names yet? I think they'll wait til 2013 before they even consider anyone.

Not a lot being talked about regarding new manager yet. A couple names have been tossed around but that's just by colleagues and others who cover the team, no one from CSA. Tony Fonseca the U-23 head coach and CSA high performance director is the popular guess it seems. I also heard other names of former Canadian internationals being tossed around, but I personally don't expect the likes of Paul Peschisolido or Jason De Vos being in contention here. Bottom line though, I've been told there will be no big hires unless some sort of miracle happens. It wont be a big name like many were hoping. They need quality for any coach to have success anyways. The best way to do that is by getting the best players, but they don't seem to be able to do that. Hoilett is all but gone to Jamaica at this point.

Record: 2-1 (+1.1)

On to Wednesday's picks...

Olympiakos +265

In a match with two fairly even teams, I'll take Champions League experience any day. Olympiakos on good form at the moment while Montpellier have still not been able to overcome their summer transfer departures. Olympiakos have a good record in France as well in European competitions. They were 1-0 victors at Marseille a year ago in this stage of the competition. Montpellier lack the killer instinct up front while Olympiakos has more than a couple capable goalscorers who can inflict some damage. Don't expect many goals here so under would be a strong play but at this value it's impossible to pass it up. You can get the PK at +175 as well if you want the insurance and a push in case of a draw. 1-0 Olympiakos.

Malaga/Milan draw +230

Great value here. Draw written all over it. Serie A title hopes look grim for Milan so all their focus is shifted to Champions League. After a disappointing draw to start their campaign, they got a big win over Zenit last match day. Malaga have been in fine form, but taking all three points from Milan is a tall order. El Sharaawy is scoring in bunches for Milan at the moment and will pose a threat to Malaga at the back. Milan aren't losing, but they also won't win. Winning back to back road games in Europe is near impossible unless you're team boasts the likes of Lionel Messi or Crybaby Ronaldo. Milan will be content in taking the point from this knowing their two toughest games in the group stage are out of the way (@Zenit @Malaga). Milan also know a Malaga win means they will likely finish a top the group which they will ensure doesn't happen, or at least for now. Can't see either team winning, both will be playing it safe knowing a draw benefits them both while a loss is a big blow for both in their hopes of advancing. 1-1 final.

PSG -1 -105

Zagreb is bad, PSG is good... very good. I don't care that they're on the road, Ibra is on a mission and PSG are firing on all cylinders looking to avenge a 2-0 loss to Porto last time out. Zagreb is the punching bag of this group, if you drop points against them you're not doing yourself any favors. PSG should roll here. 3-0 final.

Arsenal -110

Schalke are good, but Arsenal is dominant at home. They've had their road struggles, but at home they're a whole other monster. The loss at Norwich on Saturday was no doubt due to the fact they were looking ahead to this game. Schalke are coming off an incredibly hard fought victory against Dortmund Saturday. It's a tough thing to ask of their players to bring that same fight and passion into another road game just four days later. Arsenal will keep their winning ways in Champions League going here with a win.

Strong leans towards:
Ajax/City over
Dortmund/Madrid tie
Zenit -1
Porto/Kiev under 2.5

Good luck fellas

as per usual no bet for me in the gooner match but i have to think there is some value on the under. Maybe under 2.75 instead of 2.5. If Walcott and Alex Chamberlain are out I wonder if we will be able to move the ball and play our style. Schalke as you wrote will be tired from their weekend match and i think a draw would be a great result for them. Only 1 home defeat in 44 CL matches so the -0.25 has a lot of appeal too. For me this wouild be a must wait for lineup bet...and Podolski to score against a german side could be a good prop.

great call on the greeks....gooners will go no where with gervinho being a side wing man.....that's two matches in a row we are lost without walcott or Sir Alex Chamberlain. CL could almost be in jeopardy esp with a trip to germany to come. Could be worst...we could be Man City.

How about Andre Santos :ohno:

Worst full back I've seen in a while. No idea why he's starting. Then big bad Arshavin subbed on. I knew it was over when that happened. Brutal week for the Gunners, let's hope they get it back on track.

i just don't understand those freak signings last year - santos, mertasucker, gervinho - nothing worked...outside of Alex Chamberlain last years adds have been pointless....maybe another once i don't know. This year seems better but we definitely need Wilshire back soon. Last year we turned everything around and we are actually better off at this point than last so i'm still hopeful but like you said, tough week. Home to QPR should be a win but london derby of sorts so who knows.

QPR will be desperate and in a derby game anything can happen. Last year I was shaking my head at the Gervinho signing. He picked it up and was on a tear for the early parts of this season but he looks like he's returning to old form. Wilshere is a must to get back. I like Ramsey but he's trying to do too much too often and that hurts his team. Jury is certainly still out on Giroud, but Cazorla and Podolski have looked good. Rumors now that Adrian is the next Wenger target. Another forward. How about upgrading at fullback or central mid? Not a priority I guess, but it certainly should be.

Fellas I will have 1-2 plays in Europa League tomorrow, I want to wait and see lineups so if you care to follow check in around noon and then again at 2-2:30 for my plays.
