These are tough situations and what happens here is exactly what makes it tough for sites like this. I am going to go to bat for Ken and the RX here because I believe he was right, no other reason. We found out about some key people leaving Royal. We found out about some random troubles there, still small stuff at this point. We found out they were on the block to be sold. We found out that Spiro was trying to buy them and then pulled out. We found out he had not gotten his money yet and wondered if something spooked him. We found out that some of the ex-employee(s) had not gotten paid and it was for substantial numbers. We were hearing about slow pays starting up. This was ongoing and not sure of the exact timeline but you get the picture. When I discussed it with Ken we both agreed we probably as a player would not send money to them at that point in time. Maybe the reasoning is harsh towards the books and err's too much on the side of the players but we decided if it wasn't safe enough for us it shouldn't be safe enough for the other players. Some people come to these sites and have no clue about what is going on and we were a litle worried about things at that point. That was the extent of it. There was NO AGENDA to get Royal, not even close. It was Ken's final decision and he in fact labored on it because he thinks highly of the people there and didn't want to do it. It just came down where we'd rather be safe than sorry. There was no agenda other than that, Royal had planned on continuing on here as advertisers and I saw the e-mails myself. The move cost us money, it didn't help us in any way. If you notice after they got pulled they never came in here and disputed the fact they were not going to leave the site. I can not speak for anything I am not invovled in but I am going to say on this we wanted to do the right thing and I believe we did. Watchdog sites in my mind should be doing more and we are trying to do that but this is why it is difficult. When you act on things you will be 2nd guessed if things clear up but that is exactly what we wanted to happen! We didn't want to be "right" about Royal, we wanted to be safe.
In closing I know we did the right thing based on what we believed. I am happy with it and hope we will not ever shy away from doing the exact same thing again in the future. We owe it to the advertisers who are up there to take action or we cheapen the whole bunch of them. We also owe it to the players to do what we think is right and more importantly we owe it to ourselves. I would hate myself if we knew what we did and did nothing about it only to watch them go under 3 months from now with everyone's money. There is no science to this and it is hard to know what is what but when we do get information I think its very important we act on what we get. Some will no doubt see it different but this was a key moment for me because I saw this site will do what is right without regard to their bottom line when players money is at stake. That as a player really meant a lot to me as I have been stiffed in the past and know what it feels like. There is a history of mistrust with some "watchdog sites" but we are doing good things around here, things I am proud to be associated with.
Amongst criticism a man (site) can neither protest nor defend himself; he must act in spite of it and then it will gradually yield to him.
