Client of mine had a son that wouldn't stop doing drugs and living dangerously. He was told there's an 80% chance his son would be dead by age 25. They tried everything and the kid failed at everything. The last straw was when their son through a threw a large stone through his mom's car window while she was backing out of the driveway.
They called a school out west, I believe it was in Utah but the name escapes me at this moment. The initial cost was in excess of 100k. The school flies two men to your home and they took their son to the school in a straight jacket. Once there, they take away every personal belonging, you're left with nothing but jeans and a t-shirt.
They then proceed to remind you what you value in life, who you love, what you're expectations are. They reboot your system.
after completing the program their son returned home a new man. He went on to college and has a law degree, although he's working in IT today.
I'm pretty sure it's the same MO used in boot camps too.
so although I may have been talking tongue in cheek when making the comment, it's a system that actually works.
