As of this moment I have not played these games. I actually was also looking at UConn amd Florida games. They don't qualify for this category (like vegas said) but it's a higher ranked team, as the dog, playing the lower ranked team. But like I said I'm just looking at it. It won't count towards this thread.

Dan K, I see what you're saying but I don't follow college basketball all that much, so I don't know who the better teams are. I could look at the records. I guess that could be some type of indication. i think I'm going to play around with this for a while and see what happens. Maybe in time I'll start watching more of the unranked better team dogs (does that make sense).

I Bet through a local and yes I go on the morning lines. But I already took them -1. I am alos on BC, LSU, Uconn(homer)They are flying right now though. Thinking about Washington later--line looks funny and Florida--Vandy has played no one--BC wins this one early on the boards

Well, I guess LSU made an attempt to come back but in the end they couldn't cover at home. Notre Dame was in a similar boat, keeping it close, but folding at the end and letting Syracuse (a real good team in and of itself) take over late in the second half.

To date, the record for ranked teams that are not favored since this thread started is 3-2.

main reason this works is East coast bias, it happens in football too, the sportswriters that vote dont really dont know the game to well, Stanford is by far the best team in the country, yet they only get 11 of 73 votes. Outside of 3,6,10,16, and 19 you have 21 teams that overrated, some more overrated than others, teams that are mildly overrated like Gatech to teams that are grossly overrated like Duke,Kentucky,Uconn,Wake,Az. On top of that most these teams have garbage coaches.

Thanks for bringing up the poll.

But, I'm sorry. There may be some overrated teams in the top 25 but Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, and even Georgia Tech can run with any teams in the nation. Maybe I'm bias myself.

And the coaches? How you gonna say Coach K, Lute Olsen, Pitino, Roy Williams, and Boehiem are overrated. Hopefully you weren't talking about them, but alot of the teams in the top 25 are deserving. I agree Stanford is possibly the best team in the league but look at their conference (compared to the ACC or the Big East). And St. Jo's, like you said, can definetly create some problems for some teams but their upcoming schedule, the next two weeks, compared to say Duke or Maryland, is a walk in the park.

I hope I'm not coming across as too hostile, (I mean I have been drinking since I woke up, drowning my sorrows and losses away). Just figure it would be fun to start a little debacle while we wait for the next "Ranked team, not Favored"

Take it easy!

kayman,

Lute Olsen, K, Roy Williams,Gary Williams are all trash. Bobby Knight will agree, Bob is somewhat polite about coach K, becasue he was his gopher boy for a couple of years.

HA, HA! Railbird I hope you're being funny. If you're serious well then sorry to laugh. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. What I do know, however, is that Syracuse is a 3 point dog at Seton Hall tomorrow. So if you're following this thread, here's something to look for. Good Luck!

I have to laugh at that and that there is a east coast biast in college. If that was the case then why does the ESPN poll, who has a range of coaches all over the country have a very similiar looking poll.

But anyways Seton Hall tonight needs this game. They can not afford to fall to 1-3 in the BIg east. They may struggle on the boards with Cuse. Warrick is strong and Forth is nothing, but is 7ft. Seton hall has a small adavatage with barret and allen over Edelin and Mcnamara in the back court. Seton hall is better FT shooting team. SH lost to Prov but only shot 414 form the field. Cuse will play their 2-3 and SH has excellent shooters. I think SH could have a nice win here knocking down some shots. This is cuse's 3rd rd game in a week. Cuse has owned SH in the past. I feel this game sets up well for SH. Cuse playing 3 great games in a row, on the road all week and SH coming off of 2 losses and is more desperate. Cuse does have Pitt. saturday too. SH plays v-tech. This game really is SH bubble game. They don't win this game --I would say they most likely are out of the NCAA. They still have PITT, UCONN + ND away, Prov and Rutgers away which are tough places to play. PLus Miami and WV away who are both playing well. Which means they won't have a quality win, and will be sub 500 in the conference.

I'm not sure what the record is for the whole season. I know that its 4-2 since January 14, gonna keep eyeing this. When I get a chance I'm going to go back and try to find out exactly what this record is overall though.

OK, I spent the past couple hours trying to figure this out. I'm still not so sure if it's right. I went back since the beginning of the season and checked all games where a ranked team played an unranked team, and the ranked team was the underdog. I did not add ranked vs. ranked. What I came up with were some nice numbers and an overall record of 11-4.

Just something to ponder.

Hawgball, it's 11-4 in favor of the favorite, or unranked team. For instance last night; Seton Hall played Cuse. Cuse was the ranked team but not favored and they lost straight up, ATS.

Another thing I notice, as mentioned before, was that this trend usually takes place when the ranked team is playing away. Home court advantage for the favorite (unranked team). I looked ahead at the remainder of this weeks schedule and saw any where between 3-6 possible games that could fall in this category.
